Stats carry over on different servers?

I heard stats and gear carry over when you log-out but also when you switch servers but this doesn't seem to be true when I switch servers. Is it only on official servers? or is it only in the mods within the mod? I don't understand this can someone explain?

If you play on public servers than your character transfers and is the same on any public server. If you join a private hive, then that character is unique to that private hive.

Your gear only persists across servers connecting to the same hive (database)

All "official" servers for example connect to one official hive so your gear/location etc will persist.

Majority of private servers only connect to their own single hive but there are some which share. I believe many Vilayer and HFB servers share a single private hive for example.
