How to make 1st person playable

Recommended Posts

Just a small thread for players new and old who don't like playing in 1st person because it's uncomfortable and crappy.

Head bob:

First I suggest you turn down head bob. To do this, open the menu and go into options > game options. There you will find a slider for Head Bob. Turn this down as low as you like, it helps if you get dizzy or feel sick from running around and also makes it easier to see stuff while moving.

FOV (field of vision/view):

The normal FOV in arma is pretty small and makes it feel weird and a disadvantage to use. To fix this you simply need to double tap the minus or '-' key on your keyboard's numpad. This should lock the camera back a bit and give a wider more comfortable FOV. Or if you like you can just hold it while looking around. You may need to set it back after doing certain things but if you're just running around it's great.

Well that's it, sorry if there's already a thread about this but I hope this helps people out, since 1st person is the most exciting and immersive way to play.

Thanks for reading :)

There will still be a lot of people who will complain about the 1st person view...other games do share the same shaking or even have more shaking and almost nobody complains. The fov in most games is quite the same due to the same resolution + a bit more in certain games such as CoD but with a high enough fov it looks distorted and irritatiing.

You still have my beans for the effort.

Another option provided you have the budget is get a 21:9 monitor.

With the FOV even farther back you can't even see your iron sights...

I was testing with an m14 aimpoint and it was ok but I guess it would be harder with iron sights, oh well I prefer that over lower fov. I guess you can just turn it off if you gotta do some shooting too.

fov of 85° at 16/9 works great for me (fovTop=0.96, fovLeft=1.71)

I use FOV sometimes to make my character a drugee after using morphine. I have no friends.

I would also turn off post-processing to disable the annoying motion blur. Btw, doesn't changing FOV affect zeroing?
