Video settings

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I first played DayZ on a 8800GT and now I've upgraded tot the GTX560 Ti. Needless to say, on my previous graphics card the game was barely playable. I wonder if anyone can help me find the optimal video settings for my graphics card. To be honest don't have the idea that the video performance improved even half the rate it should have. Could I be doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You honestly just have to play about with it, the 560Ti should get you good performance BUT the mod is not very well optimised so you won't be maxing it out or anything.

Main thing is to make sure that your Video Memory is set to 'Default' in DayZ, anything else and it really starts to mess stuff up - other than that, play about with it and see what is best for you.

use a program, like fraps, that displays your fps, and play with the settings (it's easier to tell what's making a difference when you have an actual number to look at). turning anti-aliasing down or off will generally help a lot. as will adjusting post-processing, but I will say that turning post-processing 'off' is cheating IMO

This guide is very helpful for maximizing your performance potential in Dayz based on your hardware.

i currently run a Radeon 7850 but my old card, the HD 6870, seems to be comparable to your 560ti (based on this http://www.hwcompare.com/8890/geforce-gtx-560-ti-vs-radeon-hd-6870/ but i haven't tested it myself.)

After overclocking my x4 965 cpu to 3.7 ghz I was able to put everything with exception of Anti-Aliasing(Normal,) Object Detail(Very Low,) and Shadows(Disabled), on Very High. I kept Video Memory on Default as well as keeping VSYNC and Post Processing off.

Out of cities my frame rate would hold around 40-50, and some times 60+, In the larger cities I usually never dipped below 30 unless the server was highly populated or needed a restart.

I hope this helped,

Derick

Edit: What cpu do you have? This is very important in Arma II.

I'd recommend doing this config tweak:

Go into you documents folder, then go into the Arma 2 folder. You should have files called Arma2 and Arma2OA. Open them with notepad. Find GPU_maxframesahead= and Gpu_detectedframesahead=.

Replace the numbers after the = with 1, then save.

Next, open arma and go into to options, controls. Turn the smoothing all the way off.

Next, go into video options. Turn off post-processing.

what does this do then putting a 1 at the end ? Edited by chronicsdoom

Arma 2 pre-renders a lot of frames. This was supposed to make playing a better experience, but it has been known to cause mouse lag and framerate lag. This simple disables pre-rendered frames.
