Make Zombie Slower, and more realistic.. like in Left 4 dead. or some

Recommended Posts

This could be fixed by adding one more type of zombies, so there would be:

Crawlers - Do not change anything. Fairly common. Avegare chance of infecting.

Hoppers - Do not change anything. Fairly common. Avegare chance of infecting.

Walkers - Every place is indoors for these bitches. The most common sight. Avegare chance of infecting.

Infected - Do not change anything, exept make these run indoors. The fairly rare sight. Very high chance of infecting.

That's not a fix, that's more of a nerf. No walking zombies, only running ones please. Crawlers and hoppers need their own attack animations though.

The original slow "zombies" weren't zombies. They were meant to be ghouls...

Edit: L4D has the fastest zombies I've seen in a game, yet you use it for a slow zombies idea? The best zombies, that fit your description, is Dead Rising 2 zombies.

i think he meant the speed they wander around, and how they are nigh motionless untill freaked out by something... it would truly be a turkey shoot with the weapons of arma 2.

I think he means the glitchy, super fast zombie animations. In that case, it will be fixed in standalone.

Did the OP just use "Realism" and "Zombies" together in the same subject?

The main problem with zombies right now as far as their moving about is concerned is their erratic movement and teleporting to your face when they fight you or walking through walls, objects and closed doors.

The other issue with zombies is they are pretty much harmless at all times, only time they actually pose a risk is when you are fighting other players or you somehow manage to get stuck in a house/dead end.

In conclusion, the only time a zombie will ever land a hit on you is when you actually fight them and they glitch about. Beyond that, they are so dumb and easy they may as well not even be there at all.

However, if they had at least some amount of smartness to them so they flanked around you and tried to box you in then they would actually be a challenge and make much more sense as zombies.

And there should be more diversity among them. Some are faster runnings, harder to hit and some are slower but much more deadly. Some are specialists, throwing rocks or spitting at you or breathing choking gas or whatever. All to make you more aware of what zombies you are dealing with instead of thinking "1, 2, 3 zombies or 50... Doesn't matter, I'll just walk through that building or sit in this bush and whack them with my axe"

Another thing that is really missing is progression in difficulty. The more valuable loot you may find the more / stronger zombies you will face. As it is now it's as easy running through cherno / elektro as it is running about on the NW / NE airfields etc as far as zombies are concerned.

The only real threats are other players in those locations respectively.

Hopefully at some point the flanking and seizure code is removed from the zombie AI, and they get more fluid animations that fit what they're doing better. Some sort of delay if they notice something nearby though, and a time for how long it takes for them to get max sprint speed (you know, like actual human beings), I think would help in both visual cohesion and "god this is annoying as fuck" moments.

Not saying flanking is bad. Flanking like XOTCadde described with the zombies visually running around and taking an alternate path would be great... just not this warping back and forth just to add artificial challenge to hitting zombies. Maybe they should just add damage. I'm sure zombies would hit harder without pain tolerance, and maybe their hands / arms would degenerate into exposed bones and stuff, who knows...
