Recommended Posts

I just got into DayZ with my friend and we tried walking into some small towns/villages.

When ever we did, we would we busy killing zombies untill dying from lack of ammo and/or supplies.

How da f**k do you get in and out of towns in one piece?

Thats part of the fun mate. you will learn what towns are worth going in for food and supplies and whats not. First off you need to learn how to ditch the Zeds. you can run around buildings or Through buildings that have 2 exits and you can loose them that way. avoid firing when you dont have to. it attracts way more zombies and tells other players your in the area.

If I run through buildings, they lose track of me?

I only kill them with silenced weapons.

Running around buildings work?!

If you run through buildings the zeds will follow and slow down, losing sight, same with running around buildings/walls, if they lose line of sight they'll lose aggro.

There are some farm buildings, stables for example that are a very long straight building , if you run into door 1 and keep running straight to door 2 the zombies get stuck in the building because zombies slow down inside.

Do not pass up smoke grenades, zombies will chase down the smoke allowing you to displace them (obviously players can see the smoke too)

Running around buildings.... "works" but is a little trickier.

Hatchet / Pistol combo is good if you can get off headshots once safely in a room.

Don't run into a supermarket and open up with a M16 or AK, that is going to drain your ammo. Sometimes if you can, snipe a few before you enter the town.

best overall gun? 1866 winchester. Hands down. Fairly quiet, accurate, can 1 shot, plentiful ammo

Running through buildings, running into the middle of pine trees and medium sized bushes (they'll run right up to you and the walk off), if you get lucky with a working helicopter you can shelter under it right next to it, it looks like they stop at the circumference of the rotor blades, clipping them around buildings by running around the outside of one as close as possible, this also works around fences, they have reduced vision at night, crawling prone helps, but is slow and sometimes, especially during the day, they will spot you if you get close and it can be buggy, so at your own risk.

Once you get used to them, they're fairly easy to manage, but they're still more dangerous than a script kiddie trying to aim.

Hi Taltal. You're not flooding the forums if you're asking valid questions in the same thread.

To answer this in order:

Going through cities safely - Simply stay low, go slow. If you are chased, zig-zag around buildings to break their line of sight and get quiet again. Zombies cannot run indoors, so use that to put distance between you and them.

How to change voice chat channel: Just use < and >. Direct communication is for people around you. Vehicle channel is for anyone in the same vehicle as you. Side channel (If enabled) is everyone on the server, and it is generally frowned upon to use voice comms on this channel.

If you need any more help, and don't want to make another thread/post for it, feel free to send me a message about anything.

Hey that's what I did lol so don't hate on the suggestion. Until you get to understand the mechanics of the zombie you would also probably crawl everywhere lol.
