Whaddapitty 1 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) So,I am under the impression that 7:1 Surround doesn't seem to work very well in ARMA2/DayZ, I have purchased an according headset just recently and there doesn't seem to be a big difference to the stereo headset I was using before. I can tell whether the shots are coming from my left or right and from how far, but not really "better" that before...I tested it with (please don't stone me) Modern Warfare 3 and Skyrim, where it worked really well, I could easily tell from where shots/steps/mudcraps where coming from to just turn around an attack them spot on.I am using a Logitech G930 now. What are your experiences with surround sound in DayZ?Does it actually work for you?Do you think it should be implemented in a better way(especially since there seem to be so many people who are so enthusiastic about forcing their "first-person-only" playstyle upon others...)?Edit. Typos, a missing word. Edited December 23, 2012 by Whaddapitty
intensity (DayZ) 312 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) How much did you pay for that? 100£? If so, you could buy a medium end regular headphones that would rock your world. By medium I mean "OMFG THAT PWNS" compared to regular or shop garbage headphones. There are people out there that spend incredible amounts of money on audio equipment and they would spend more than a 100£ on speaker wires alone. Also, wireless does crap to your quality. (frequency response)I didn't ever bother with 7.1 sound, probably because it's difficult to get a decent 7.1 setup. Logitech has really changed and they have been overpricing and cutting down on production values of their audio equipment, best example is the Z906 vs Z5500 or even Z5300.As to your question, Arma II does support surround sound, because it works for me. My friend had to run it with game mode on his soundblaster for it to work, so it definitely can have hardware/software issues. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 23, 2012 I use a 5.1 set-up when playing DayZ and it works well. It's made me duck a few times and the thunder makes my dog hide under the bed so no complaints from me.
Whaddapitty 1 Posted December 23, 2012 I paid about 150€ for it (~122 pound st.) and I am very statisfied with the device, it works the way it is meant to in other (faster) games, so the delay of the wireless transmission seems to negligible.(It is true what you said about the change in Logi merchandise though, but i I still think they are worth the money. They are among the cheapest in Germany but still offer an acceptable quality basically)Ok, so I guess I'll be going through some hardware/Arma2/DayZ boards and see if somebody made it work already, thanks for the input. finkone 320 Posted December 23, 2012 5.1 - can often tell where the shot came from, how far away roughly, (within 50-100m)... all I care about. ;D
boneboys 7988 Posted December 23, 2012 Got a real Soundcard ?Set to 64 channels in sound options.
Whaddapitty 1 Posted December 23, 2012 I do. And I got it working finally, my soundcard, not the latest model ;) , had some trouble with the headphones being an USB device and not "klinke" (pin?). Still was expecting more though...but i think thats really an Arma2 issue (a game where hearing from which general direction a TANK is coming was probably considered sufficient). Michaelvoodoo25 3120 Posted December 23, 2012 5.1 for me, used a few times on a night when the people need to sleep.I 2nd the need for a good soundcard too, or the headsets are just crud.
Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted December 23, 2012 Yeah my 5.1 output is immense on my sound card, saved my backside several time knowing where shots are coming from etc, though my MIC input is shocking, muffled and horrible yet the laptop is crystal clear using the same mic... aksuduud 64 Posted December 23, 2012 5.1 works good for me, no soundcard just onboard realtek.
