This is how you balance bloodsuckers on namalsk (Because they need it)

Recommended Posts

So there are two new features to the map namalsk with the new update. The blowout witch is fine in my opinion, and the bloodsuckers. So with the addition of bloodsuckers comes some

balancing issues. They are way overpowered. Now I don't mean how the strike, or run speed, there is a problem with how they turn invisible (Not the traditional S.T.A.L.K.E.R way) and how they

spawn. The first problem I'm going to address is how they spawn... The fact of the matter is I have no clue how they spawn atm, though I have a hunch is like zombies witch means there are...

one: Too many blood suckers,

two: They are always around.

So how do you fix this? Well I believe they should be like chopper spawns (with a catch). Once a server is reset a certain number of bloodsuckers will spawn (Number limit should be up to the

admins). Now with this being said there is a problem of no bloodsuckers being on a server because they were all killed. So here is the catch. When a bloodsucker is killed another will spawn

at a random location on the map. Also bloodsuckers should roam the entire map, making them a threat everywhere, not just the mountains and other wooded areas (Never had a blood

sucker encounter out of those two general locations.).

Problem number two... The way they go invisible is not the original way in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. In S.T.A.L.K.E.R. they would only go invisible if they saw a threat (You or another NPC (Non-player

character ). This gives the player the ability to avoid a bloodsucker or gives him/her the jump on said bloodsucker. The problem with them now is that the only way to tell if one is around is if

you hear it (You will never see one unless its close, well I haven't so...) and that means its already on you and I have not been successful in escaping a chase. The player needs the same

advantage that finding another player.

*Spaces were added so it is easier on the eyes when reading.

*TL;DR

- Bloodsuckers should be like chopper spawns (With a catch, read for details)

-Bloodsuckers should turn invisible only when threatened (Like in S.T.A.L.K.E.R)

Thanks for reading through :D

I think the issue is frequency, they just become so incredibly annoying when you get 5 or more in 10 minutes.

Oh and they don't spawn off players, I was driving around in a UAZ with only myself on the server and I heard them several times

Well that's sort of what I'm getting at when I say "Too many of them". And I can't find anywhere to tell me how they spawn, so technically they still can spawn off players. Zombies wont spawn if a player is in a car but who is to say that blood suckers are the same? Either way, thanks for posting :D

I hate when the majority of a gaming population gets bored with a game so the developers find a way to make it more challenging and then it forces us to actually have to come up with new ways of playing... o0(wait, what am I saying?)

holy crap I never knew there were damn bloodsuckers in namalsk, I've only just started playing namalsk. That is pretty cool. I haven't run into any but I would say yeah they should be visible until they spot you like in stalker.

one: Too many blood suckers,

Since 0.73, this has been modified, there is only 40% chance for their spawn on predefined places (helicrashes..) + server owners can change this spawn rate, to even less or more (for example 100% - default 0.72 rate).

I want to have them only at certain places, only around precious loot or hotspots, I want to make some camping even more difficult than before. Although I kind of like the idea of spawning them randomly too.

And they way of knowing bloodsucker around you is to listen and watch, although he is using cloaking method, he has always visible red eyes (yes, you can see them, even at daylight, night is better though).

And btw we have DayZ Namalsk thread on forums for similar stuff - http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/101981-dayz-namalsk/ ;)

I killed one with an axe in the baracks at Object A2 and the other near the 'bunker' at OA2 with a AK107. They are not OP. The EMP thing I think is not good. I can see a "punishment" ensuing for making a mistake. Stupid should hurt to teach you. I cant see getting half your life taken just for being there. EMP has got to go.

This has been changed in 0.73, you shouldn't be able to kill him that easily :P

Its not EMP, its EVR/Blowout, and it got also pretty nice change in 0.73. The new "preparation phase" will give you up to 5 minutes and 30 seconds, before EVR will escalate, you will basically do mistake if you ignore it. I admit, that previous (0.72 version) was a bit hardcore and you guys did not have enough time to react.

Anyway, both features, which are here mentioned, can be turned off server side. So if you guys wont like it even after 0.73 (which has been release on thursday), you can always find server, where these things are turned off. I wont be removing them, I will continue improving them, I gave you tools for disabling / enabling these features.

I didn't know they added more STALKER stuff to that map! That is pretty awesome, despite some bloodsucker imbalances.

How do the blowouts work? They made sense in STALKER, cause the maps were small, so you could find hiding places, but in a giant map in DayZ, where do you go? If your traveling through the woods, it doesn't kill you, does it?

I know the community will go lots of different directions, But Honestly I think S.T.A.L.K.E.R. elements should belong in their own games.

Speaking as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fan in general. I have never seent the benefit of crossing elements from other successful games together!

I know this is a DayZ forum, but people should check out S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games out for themselves, they really are great games, just like DayZ.

I'm glad it was mellow'd but what is the difference between an EVR/Blowout and logging out for a server restart? If I see it coming Ima just log out to avoid the damage I get for just standing there. . . or look for a server that has it turned off. ;)

LOVE the blood sucker though!!!!! I just about shite my nickers when I first saw it. Had no idea it was in Namalsk map. Kept hearing his sounds but I figured it was someone messing with direct chat. My clan mates on TS didn't appreciate my yelp of surprise. (more like a blood curdling scream) "WTFFFFF?" Made my week. =)) = ))

EDIT: I just found out that possibly being indoors saves you damage from EVR? If that's the case, it's not nearly as bad as I thought. Forgive my ignorance but I've never played Stalker or been told about it by anyone till 5 min. ago. Makes the deep woods more dangerous. Brings more players closer to buildings for me to kill. Like.

It's about creating a different experience using what makes STALKER and DayZ great. STALKER has no large open world (Not technically, since each area is set apart from a loading screen) or large-scale multiplayer like DayZ. As much as I want more in DayZ, perhaps it would be better as it's own mod that runs an alternate STALKER selection of mutants and gear and the ripped building models, but I'm gonna enjoy Nam more now knowing that it has more STALKER elements in it. STALKER is majorly favorite series of mine (Sad it's basically dead now, but yeah).

There is a railgun in Namalsk......a rail gun.... only previously operated by Arnold in the movie Eraser. No blood sucker can run from that shit.

I would like it if there were considerably less of them but they were scarier and stronger. I like the idea that there is more out there than just zombies and players but something powerfull, intelligent and wanting to kill and eat you and every other player. If they roamed further and spawned in the middle of nowhere (middle of the woods) and around scientific or very small settlements it would be allot more interesting in my opinion.

EVR has ~5 minute preparation phase, which gives you time for finding shelter (it should be doable almost on all places on Namalsk). Once EVR launch, you will get combat timer and after another 30 secs, you will get hit. Yeah, you can hide from EVR in any building or get the protection device, so you can detect EVR and protect yourself from knocking out.

With 0.73, there should be less of them (and this can be adjusted by server config, you can even return it back to 0.72, or make them rarer) and they are now stronger + they are basically spawning in the woods mostly around hotspots (helicrashes, barracks, usual sniper locations,..) on Namalsk.

I didn't see even close to 5 minutes when I played. What I saw was I was at the Sebjan Warehouse tower that is just outside the walls, when someone told me it was coming. Next thing I know, the EVR hits and as I try to run, this all being in about a minute at best, where I'm then knocked down and killed, cause I had low blood. I had no way of hiding in that amount of time. There's no warning or build up that I saw like there should be with it like it is in STALKER.

I'd like to see it have a proper buildup for it. You get the warning weather signs, maybe the good 'ole air raid siren, things start to get abit hazey and you get between 5 to 10 minutes to get to safety. I like the mechanic, I just think it's too quick on a map that is way too big. I get more time in actual STALKER for finding a place, and on those small maps, I'm never more than a minute or two away from a safe spot.

There is no air siren, several combination of post process and sound effects will warn you that EVR is coming. But as I said, it is in version 0.73 and you guys all have probably still 0.72.

How to fix BloodSuckers

-Remove BloodSuckers

-Add a new unique 'monster' with their own characteristics (I like the story behind Namalsk and this should be kept)

-New 'monsters' should be found in and around the Labs (A1 & A2 I think)

-'Monsters' can be found roaming throughout Namalsk, but not be as common. (Maybe found more near Choppers or where the EVR goes off, they can be more attracted towards loud noises)

the bloodsuckers are pointless, offer no additional challenge etc. they're retardedly easy to kill. the evr is a stupid addition imo, adds nothing whatsoever.

Yeah .73 isn't out on DayZ Commander yet, so we are still on .72. If they've fixed it so now that there is proper warning and headsup for the EVR to give people a chance, I'm good with that.

I haven't seen one yet in DayZ Namalsk. I'm familiar with them from the Namalsk Crisis sp campaign. I think I heard them a couple times on DayZ, but I've yet to see one

I think it would be cool if they would also attack the zeds. also if the zeds attacked animals. yeah, I've been playing Far Cry 3...

Please read the ENTIRE thread before posting. With a post count like that you'd think someone would know better. Their 'easiness' has been dealt with. DayZ Commander doesnt have the .73 newest update. Please tell me you didn't miss the whole gotta get inside thing and how it will bring survivors closer together (and easier to find and kill). The EVR will seem stupid unless you are NOT a bambi. If there was no way to escape it, then yes, it wouldn't add much. To a bandit it's good news. If your a bambi then I guess you'll be staying away from our Namalsk games.

I will take a samich before you go . . .
