Shadow Man 142 Posted December 11, 2012 Simple as that really. You don't get a little message pop up in real life telling you if you hit someone, you have to go and check.Personally I hate the way every game becomes a bunch of statistics that if you don't know you at a disadvantage. This gun takes 2 body shots, that gun is one shot etc etc.If you fire at a player and he goes down. You wouldn't know if he is dead or playing dead or unconcious. So to drill a few more bullets in him makes others more aware of you location and also uses more valuable ammo. Or you could try and get close up for a silent knife finish(when implemented).Another reason to get rid of death messages is to take away the kill streak effect. The satisfaction of getting the little "naked gizmo was killed" message fuels player-killing in the wrong direction. If your gonna kill someone thats fine, just not if only to see another name pop up. People may argue that they don't kill to see that message. Yes, obviously its not that direct, but it is the first thing you look for when firing at a player isn't? And we all give ourselves a little cheer when we see it.I don't see why we should know who we've killed anyway. Especially if we've never met them.
rossums 2190 Posted December 11, 2012 Not a bad idea - I always wondered why they announced the fact that you killed someone. It would also add in other aspects such as 'playing dead' to try and fool an enemy and draw them out of cover - could definitely make for interesting plays. Welch (DayZ) 756 Posted December 11, 2012 The server admins can take them off if they want to.
Shadow Man 142 Posted December 11, 2012 The server admins can take them off if they want to.Yes but hardly anyone wants to play on servers without them.
Sgt.Asshat 607 Posted December 11, 2012 (edited) Its a server side thing, most have "was killed" but some have nothing.I even saw one pussy ass side chat using server using "*name1* was killed by *name2* (friendly fire)" if anyone reading this who actually prefer servers with this + side chat need to go away. Dreygar (DayZ) 178 Posted December 11, 2012 Agreed and has been suggested already, but doesn't hurt.
sibexus 26 Posted December 12, 2012 I agree, but even with death messages turned off you can check the debug monitor to see if you got a murder count. Hopefully that goes away eventually too.
-Gews- 7443 Posted December 14, 2012 Good idea, I like it. :thumbsup:There are some good servers which have messages such as "Big Timmy WAS KILLED BY Zoboomafoo WITH WEAPON MELEE HATCHET" and that annoys me.I don't mind it saying "Big Timmy was killed", but the server shouldn't give away the name of the killer. Takes away suspense.
logan23 118 Posted December 14, 2012 I agree it needs to be removed. You shouldn't just magically know you killed someone.
UmBe 125 Posted December 14, 2012 I agreeThey also should remove The buzzing Sound upon Death, because that is Kind of a Death Message. If you are close enough you don't Even Need to Look at The sidechannel.Make The Body buzz after like 30 min +-
