Azziax 81 Posted March 27, 2013 Love this idea sir! you have my beans! To prevent hoarding stuff and people actually have to use stuff.... make server restart every 72 or 96 hours, clearing it all up and start fresh.
Dreygar (DayZ) 178 Posted March 29, 2013 You'd have to block server hopping for such an idea. I could jump from server to server and clear all spots, drop it somewhere nowhere to be found and keep playing to stay out of that loop with the purpose to cause grief. Limited supplies should only come with a "server native" playerbase.Well, unfortunately when I made this thread we didn't really know how the Standalone was going to work. I thought it was going to work more on a "World" MMO-type basis for servers and not just the same formula as Arma/The mod. What I thought:World A, consisting of a max of like 1000 players at any given time.Connected by say 10 servers that all hold 100 people each. These are locked servers. You cannot switch from World A, to World B using the same character. They are different worlds and you would have to make a new character. IE, preventing hopping and other issues.Just like in a typical MMO if you join a game, your character is locked to that game. You connect to the world and you play with hundreds of thousands of people simultaneously till the game reaches its max capacity. What we're getting:Player calls up Dayz.st (or your preferred hoster) ... Buys a 60 slot server DayZ Hive server... everyone connects to it... people can server hop or do whatever nonsense they want. Same as mod, same as how Arma works, nothing new. A player won't hoarde anything if you take all their stuff away magically. A lot of people like to collect things, myself included.
Anarchyihdi 151 Posted March 29, 2013 It's a good idea, but wouldn't work - i've only read through some of the replies but i agreeSay after a year of the games release, everything would be empty and fresh spawns would starve to death or be gunned down by someone who buys the game on release.. dekartz 315 Posted March 29, 2013 (edited) Make it a game-mode where your character is tied to your specific server. Also, remove tents, making it so you can only carry as much as you can fit in your pockets/bag/vehicle. Edited March 29, 2013 by Dekartz

DayZoey 110 Posted March 30, 2013 Here's an idea to make this more feasible for server life...Instead of having loot spawn only once, have the server record the last time a spawn was looted. Yeah it'll put an extra strain on the more populated servers but think about it, if you went in to a town and there were bullets, food and drink all over the place to boot so much so that you couldn't possibly stuff anymore in your packs, you'd know someone hadn't been there for awhile. These fortunate people who had come across a fresh town wouldn't be picking other places for food, ammunition or general supplies. They'd be looking for stuff to improve their situation like a tent, repairing a car or maybe trying to get some military hardware. However on the flip side, depending on how barren a town was when you came across it, you could have a rough estimate as to the last time someone was there. Say if a town was completely emptied with nothing but empty cans and tin containers, someone has been there within the last 30 minutes. If the town had slim pickings, somebody has been there within the last hour. If a town is doing well for itself, someone has been there within the last 2 or 3 hours. Not to say that the game should be dumping supplies on people for finding a fresh town, it'd be much like the same the way it is right now for a fresh town, the chance of decent amounts of food/water/tools and then the chance to turn up nothing in other buildings. If every building you went to only had bent tin cans, empty soda cans and such, you could probably guess someone has been there recently. As for how to program it... Maybe have a timer on a town since the last time someone was there that changes the percentage of useful loot items based on how many hours have passed since the last person wandered in.Just a thought, I don't know how it could be implemented, that's just an idea. CreepySalad 108 Posted March 30, 2013 I like the idea, but it could be edited on a bit. I disagree with the whole crafting thing you're talking about. It shouldn't be that complex, or possible for you average person to create rounds for their guns.Crafting should be something you or I could do. Like put barbed wire on a baseball bat, or create a Molotov Cocktail.Maybe have it where loot respawns less and less over time. Like, as the server gets older, and the more people loot stuff, the less often loot respawns, until it no longer exists. People would have to rely on trading and murder. People might even join a group and betray them for maximum loot. This could more likely cause an improvised server economy. Improvisation is always good in DayZ. It makes it feel more authentic.
