Should I wait for standalone to come out?

Hey guys, I've been watching DayZ videos on Youtube for quite a while. I have a couple questions. One, should I wait for DayZ standalone to come out or just get Arma II for Christmas? Two, which has more features, the standalone or the Alpha Mod. Three, will the standalone be continually updated or have like... "Expansions". Finally, should I get it for Steam or just off the Website (I know with steam there can be some startup issues and diffuculty with mods when it comes to folders).

Since the first post didn't answer your first question, I will. It really depends on what your looking for in the game really. Now that the Dayz Mod is a primarily community run project, it has some benefits of its own, and its also the here and now. ;) Were all hoping for the standalone alpha to be released this year, but Rocket has stated that he will not sacrifice the quality of the first alpha build just to have an early release. So it may be next year that we get it. The standalone is supposed to have lots of new features, but I don't see it being any reason to not get the mod, which is also excellent. Not sure if that helps, but it will give you some insight on both projects anyway.

No. The mod was free because it was a mod. You already paid for ARMA II.

The Standalone is a game in itself. It's not related to ARMA II or any other game, so you'd be paying directly for DayZ.
