Ambush General

Recommended Posts

Fairly self-explanatory. Ambush stories, how-tos, good locations, how to not fall into one, etc, all go here.

I'll start it off:

I was running around Berezino a little while ago and saw a light in the woods. Thinking it was a heli crash, I ran towards it, but was surprised to find that it was a van with its lights on. I asked my friend about it and he said that he had actually checked it out earlier and that nobody was there. I took the van and headed to Kamenka to kill fresh spawns so I could get my bandit skin back. On the way I looted a few towns and acquired an AKM and a ghillie suit, but I decided to keep moving south anyway.

As I arrived on the outskirts of Kamenka, the van ran out of gas. As I was about to abandon it, I had a brilliant idea: I left the lights on and sprinted into the bushes. Not even a minute later, I heard someone get in the van and start honking the horn. As I took aim, the driver stepped out and typed in chat "lol it's broken... oh well, still funny to see a random van in the middle of the road." I opened fire with my AKM the moment he got out, but he didn't die, so I shot him a few more times. After I was sure that he was dead, I ran up to the van to discover that I had just killed two people, both of whom were now producing the most delicious tears on side chat.

Sadly, the server was restarted several minutes later, so I didn't get to catch anyone else with it.

Oh and before anyone starts crying about how I shouldn't have killed poor bambis, they were both armed and one had a bandit skin. It was my van that they tried to steal, too.

Good kills mate

My best ambush story is also my best firefight story. We were somewhere in the northwern wastes in a valley(forested mountains on either side) and it was clear down the middle. Our scout spotted a group of 6-10 people armed to the teeth passing straight across the valley and would be in the clearing in minutes. We set up a perfect killing field, 5 of us including me prepped to ambush them, up on the opposing hill(where they would be going to) our machine gunner set up shop, while the other 4 hid behind cover in the field. We had 1 M249 saw, 2 M4 CCO, 1 M16 M203, and one AKM.

We planned it like this, when they were half way through the clearing we would start off with m203, as soon as it popped the machine gunner started to supress and the rest of us engaged targets. It worked.

They entered the clearing thinking it was just another marathon, 9 of them we counted, geared to the teeth. They kept running and were clustered close together. I gave the order and the M203 popped off, 2 contacts down before it even started. The machine gunner started firing and wounded 1 of them straight off. The rest of us rose off and showered the now retreating force in lead. Our machine gunner took a hit but managed to stabalize himself. 2 of our men were still engaging the now covered OpFor, while the rest of us(minus the machine gunner who was on support due to being wounded) moved to flank. Machine gun fire sounded off but no one got hit, they couldnt go anywhere, but we couldnt get a shot. The counted the dead combatants, 5 down and 1 unconscious(was duly killed by a 5.56 to the skull). 3 contacts up, we knew 2 were still firing at the guys still in the clearing, by this time me and another guy(loaded with the m16) were entering the woods. This is where we found the 3rd contact, he was attempting to flank. He didn't see us and we exploded his dome with a silenced M9. Within a minute we were able to find and neutralize the remaining 2 guys, who were attempting to flee.

We gave each a knockout shot, talked to them in direct chat for a while, then gave them each a spray to the chest. So ended them. We head back straight away to establish a secure peremiter while we fixed up our machine gunner's broken leg. Then waded through the dead and took what we wanted. If only we had a car, because there was tons. Everyone walked away with NVGs/Rangefinders, coyote bags and some other goodies.

Nice, Krihelion. I've always wanted something like that to go down. That's how DayZ ought to be played.

My favorite ambush is from a while back during my Pik Kozlova as50 bambi-sniping phase (yeah, just about everyone has this phase at one point or another).

I was watching a streamer with a group of a dozen or so players that were playing on the same high-pop server. Watched them as they destroyed stream-sniper after stream sniper. They were riding around Kamenka towards Cherno in a Ural as I closed the stream and placed a single razor wire setup in the middle of the street in front of Pik Kozlova and Cap Golova, as well as a few satchel charges I had. After setting the trap up, I retreated and sat in Ghillie in the mountain, completely camouflaged with an as50 already dialed in exactly to the distance from my position to the trap.

To my surprise, they did actually ride on the road, and were driving towards Elektro. The driver wasn't thinking at the time, or so I was told, because he drove up to the razor wire and stopped in front of it. I found out after I saw the recorded stream that he was talking to his group, asking if the Ural could drive through the wire. Before they could answer, BOOM, I touch off all of the satchels, destroying the Ural and killing most of the occupants instantly. Those who didn't die were knocked inconscious, and chose not to log out. Instead of moving up and attacking, I lay still, watching for movement. I was prepared to sit for an hour.

After 5 minutes of waiting, I saw a weapon poking around the corner of the back part of the truck. They were close enough for me to see that it was an l85, but it wasn't pointing anywhere near me. As he moved more and more out of cover looking for hostiles, I squeezed on my mouse, sending 12.7 milimeters of ass-smashing into his upper chest, killing him instantly. There were others behind the truck, and they knew they were pinned.

They sat there for 30 minutes, doing absolutely nothing. They eventually made a break for a hill south of the truck, where a ditch could possibly give them cover. They made it to the ditch, but I had the high ground by over a hundred meters, and they had no cover. The two remaining men proned out over the edge of the ditch, and I eliminated both in quick succession.

Said "you're welcome" in their stream chat once I opened it back up. They banned me from their stream :D

Using a stream to take advantage of someone? sorry bro, but no skill honestly, satchels killed everyone but 3? and you had sniper cover over them and they and nothing decent but a l85 to spot you? Meh. not worthy of beans

I wasn't watching the stream at the time of the attack, actually. And who the hell stated I was fishing for beans? I was merely sharing a story from earlier times. Meh.

Well, here's another one for you guys:

I was with a group of 7 friends on my favorite server, and i had just been attacked in Elektro as the others were moving in to loot it. I regrouped with them to the north, in the woods, and we slowly and carefully made our way to the power plant. We spread out into two groups (with our AS50 guy giving cover from the northwest hill) and made our way deeper into the city in search of loot and the asshole who tried to kill me earlier. We cleared the school, store (killing one guy who was there), and the West fire station, and regrouped after our sniper shot someone who was trying to get a position on the roof of the East fire station. Someone spotted a ghillie suit running along the tracks to the West, so we all huddled up in the schoolhouse to ambush him when he came near.

Unfortunately, someone joined the server and said something about the tons of zombies in Elektro, which set off a rather nasty chain reaction. I heard footsteps to the north of the school, so I set up position to watch the store and hotel. Seconds later, I heard a grenade explode at the front of the school; another one quickly followed. I hauled ass back inside as everyone moved away from the windows. Some random guy with an Enfield ran in the door I was covering with my own Enfield, and we opened fire on each other; I was knocked out, he was only bleeding. He took several steps backwards and tried to look up the stairs (at my friends who were ready to shred him to pieces), but was shot by a sniper on the roof of the hospital. Our own sniper dispatched this guy and informed us that the grenades, which hadn't stopped coming, were all being launched by another guy on the hospital roof.

During a break in the shooting, I realized that we were in a really bad shape. One of us had been killed by a grenade, two others had been downed in the streets by an unknown enemy as they tried to flank the sniper and grenadier, and I was unconscious and bleeding out. We decided to GTFO, and I ran to the power station as soon as I woke up and bandaged myself. While passing out from blood loss and shaking uncontrollably from pain, two randoms shot and killed each other near the school building, and our sniper let us know that the grenadier, who had been logging in and out, had been ghosting and was now glitched inside of the hospital. After a swift swing of the banhammer, my buddies on the ground met up with me and we gave each other transfusions. One headed up sniper hill to circle around and meet with our sniper, the other guy left to check the west fire station again, and I went back to the school to loot the bodies. In the process, a bandit made the rather unfortunate mistake of logging in and crawling into the hallway right after I had picked up my friend's AK-74. He did not survive.

Those of us who were still alive ran to the northwest hill. Someone found a working SUV along the way, and we went to Berezino where "that guy" among us threw a grenade and made bullet cracks on his mic. The SUV was flipped shortly afterward, and I decided to log off and call it a night.

All in all, it was the most fun DayZ experience I've had.
