realistic shock

Recommended Posts

if anyone has ever read about first aid, you'll realise that shock in DayZ is almost the opposite of its rea life affliction

in real life, shock is caused by excess hormones (usually adrenaline) shutting down the circulatory system, and is lethal in many cases. taking an epi-pen to cure shock would actually kill you.

in real life, you need to rest and increase blood flow to the body and head (by raising the legs) (dont take my word for it, i wont be held responsible for failed first-aid killing someone!)

how about this:

shock acts as it does now, but with the added "benefit" of making teh afflicted fall unconcious (and die shortly thereafter) if it is allowed to manifest into SEVERE SHOCK

to cure it, do what you need to! take a suitable drug (not sure myself), but definatley NOT Adrenaline (epinephrin/epi-pen) since this will shut down the respiratory system of the target... i mean casualty, or rest, allowing the body to regulate its adrenaline levels by literally calming down, and stopping any more adrenaline production through fear of death

as a gameplay mechanic:

recieving shock is as normal, after 5 minutes without resting (or taking suitable medication) Severe shock develops, with a 1/100 chance per second of falling unconcious, and not waking up again. if a survivor administers an epi-pen to the casualty, they die almost instantly (in fact, the anti-adrenaline medication must be injected instead)

by resting, you "pause" the severe shock countdown, and after 60 seconds, the shock is removed

if the shock was not from injury (IE gunfire aimed near them, severely stressing situations like being chased by a horde of zed), it will remain as normal shock, not be lethal, but still have its current effects

once more, an epi-pen will almost certainly make the shock WORSE, like trying to save a drowning person by giving them a drink of refreshing mountain dew, or trying to save a burn victim by setting them alight
