Da_Reapa1 4 Posted June 17, 2012 Ok i know this is going to make the game seem like fallout, but this is my idea: Over time, weapons get damaged through use. They need to be cleaned and have parts replaced. This is not such a big problem in the civilized world, but in a zombie apocalypse, a weapon would get some serious wear and tear. Certain weapons would be more rugged then others. An AK-47 for example can take a serious beating, much more than an M-16. Some things other than firing could do damage as well. Entering water for example, or placing a weapon in your backpack and then rolling on the ground. Eventually some part of your gun will break. It may not be a vital part, but any peice that breaks will have a negative effect. Some effects could be:Unable to fire at all (Attempting to fire may break other parts or hurt you).More prone to other parts breakingMore prone to jammingLess accuracyImproperly aligned iron sights or scopeMost weapons you find lying around would have some sort of damage, mostly not very serious. Depending on the environment you found your weapon in, it is more or less likely to have damage. A weapon found in a fire station is far less likely to be damaged than a weapon found in a helicopter crash site. In order to repair a weapon, you would have to find spare parts for that weapon or a similar one (for example weapons in the AK series, including the SVD). You could find these parts alone or salvage them from other weapons. If you find a weapon and salvage it to get parts for your own, It is not guaranteed that the part you need is intact on the weapon you found. You would also find cleaning kits. These would have a limited number of uses. Weapons that are not properly cleaned would be more prone to damage or jamming. Also if you shoot another player, you risk damaging their weapon if you hit it, so if you want another players weapon, you would have to do be careful killing them. I don't know how much of this woul be possible with the Arma II engine, but i think this would add a lot more to the struggle to survive that is such a major part of Day Z. It would force players to make tough decisions like "Should i carry more food or spare parts for my gun?"I am open to any suggestions or arguments, just be civil. Budiak 1 Posted June 17, 2012 I won't say that it's a bad idea, but I will say that it's too much micromanagement. The idea that my gun is essentially useless until I find a new front sight post...geh. That's too much like my real life.
