Whitelisted Servers- What do you think? -Pros & Cons

I have started this Topic to get everyones opinions on Whitelisted Servers, and how they affect your gameplay.

I am currently playing on a Private Hive which is NOT whitelisted, and I really enjoy the constant influx of new players that come in the server. I have always avoided WL Servers as I thought they were a little too safe and boring.. I envision everyone singing songs around a campfire.

Myself and the admins of the server see an incline in WL Servers and the number of players that are joining them. It has recently been announced that my PH may become a WL server very soon and I am a bit resistant to the change.

I am hoping to get some opinions or advice from peoples experiences with WL Servers - either negative or postive.

Today was the first time I played on a whitelisted server.

Best DayZ night of my life.

Not only were a lot of my friends on it (Such as Sula, Fraggle, etc), but the people I didn't know were incredibly polite (including the ones that tried to kill me). With a small, compact community that a whitelist offers, they were open to discussing future server changes with even the likes of me, who had been in-game for merely an hour, and it makes you feel like your opinion is heard, and matters. Such incredible things are a great deterrant to hacking, as you would be missing out on all of this.

I have literally no complaints about Whitelisted servers. This was the server I was on, if you are interested.

You will most likely see less hackers (It's just an extra step which makes other non-whitelisted servers easier targets)

It may take time to build up a white-listed population.

I don't really understand the safe and boring comment, there are servers with 5k+ whitelisted players :/

Thanks Rage,you are always constructive with your posts. Been a bit hesitant to join BB, heard some bad things,and I really like my server regulars.

Thats why I was confused, thinking that it may be boring but seeing a huge amount of players contradicts that. Do you still have your fair share of bandits?

I don't know about their AU server, but I had a blast at the opening of their UK server. If my laptop didn't suck, I'd still be playing it right now.

On the notion that they are safe and boring, however, I guess I'll have to tell you a little about what happened on the server that I was referring to in the BB thread:

Basically, Sula and I were in a bus, Sula driving. The server was pitch black. I went AFK (Nature calls.), come back to hear through TeamSpeak "Rage, get in the driver's seat and get out of there."

I said "But you're already driving. By the way, who is sitting over there?"

"The person who killed me, and his friend."

Well, shit.

So I was still in the bus when they killed her and jacked it. We drove for about 20 minutes, then they stopped. They both got out.

I quickly moved into the driver's seat and pulled off. Most of the windows were then shot out as I drove off, but they missed me. I managed to drive away, but I had a nagging feeling.

There were two people, but only one gun fired.

Was the other guy still in the bus? Had I done to him what they had done to me? I tried to look behind me, but the glass behind my seat was cracked, and in addition to the darkness made it impossible to make out if there was anyone behind me.

I didn't want to stop. I was a medic, not a fighter. With my terrible frame-rate, he could easily take the bus, or get out and end me.

So, driving down a straight road at about 70MPH. I got out of the driver's seat, into the back seat. I looked around, thankfully saw nobody. I got back into the drivers seat just in time to avoid driving into the ocean.

I talked to the bandits in TeamSpeak later and we had a good laugh about it.

Perhaps not as intense as some moments, but for a medic, I pretty much laid a golden egg in my pants.

You'll have to remind me what diamond encrusted fuck you are referring to, however. D:

WL is tits if they run it right. It can vastly improve the structure of the server giving a genuine dayz experience without issues. There is a constant influx at least on ours everyday I log in there are at least 8 new players waiting to be whitelisted and eager to jump in and start up the day. Our server is far from camp fire songs as a hero i seem to get blasted by someone new everyday with a smile on their face and I wouldnt have it anyother way adds to the I should have planned that better bank. Hope everything goes well with your home team.

Allow me to reiterate:

Being a girl doesn't protect you from a bullet in this game. No matter how much stuff people give you, someone will still crack a shot into your skull and take it for themselves.

I have played many MMOs. In a competent group of players, nobody gives a diamond-encrusted fuck what kinda chromosomes you have. Anyone who does is a legitimate pillock and deserves to be surrounded by incompetent players where they belong.

My FPS is at like 10 at BEST on DayZ. I'll almost definitely be in the TeamSpeak if that's allowed, but I doubt I'll be in game, at least for very long.

Also, I actually had beans on toast for tea. :]

When done right wl servers aregood. Remember they don't stop anyone joining but it means anyone who wants too join has to jump through a few hoops to do so.

That means your typical hacker probably can't be arsed to soon and if they do chances are their grid is being monitored.

As for being group hug territory that's just dumb. I'm on the UKhardcore server and there are whole squads of bandits as well as individual survivors running around; just like any standard server.The best thing on the server are the new buildings, removal of overpowered weapons, introduction of new weapons and vehicles and some other cool server options such a zeds spawning for vehicles and base construction.

Hi Marvel girl! As Rage says being female is no protection from bullets. In fact, I was the first to die on our new UK server. :huh: And you know how I died? Mayuyu was coming to collect me in her UAZ and I said to her, I'm in the middle of the road, careful you don't run me o..... and that's all I got to say before her UAZ hit me. :o

Second time I died, was the bandit shot my face off. And I know nothing about Rage having "a laugh" with him afterward! :o Rage, I'd like to have a word with you matey, next time you're on the server, please. *loads gun* :P

Whitelisted private hives are excellent, you get a lot of decent and players who want to play the game properly, without hackers and little kiddies // griefers :)

I think I've given up on the public hive. Whitelist seems the way to go. The public hive, and even the open private hives are frequented with hackers. Tonite I had just logged on to a server and where I was, the chances of running into another player were astronomically low. Well along comes this trash talking, invincible bandit, who suffers zero damage from my SAW 249 at close range, while standing in the open. I die. Hours of careful gameplay, and great loot gone.
