A.Williams 17 Posted December 1, 2012 Bayonets could be detached into your inventory and fitted when in your toolsAnd when you press a key you thrust the bayonet and one shot kills anything within thrusting rangeAnd when in tools it could also be used to gut animals in its a knife bayonet but not if its a sword or spike bayonet but sword bayonets can be equipped as swords as a secondary (swords should also be added as a common secondary)
DayZoey 110 Posted December 1, 2012 I'm gonna go ahead and say "No" to this idea, at least in the sense that you're talking about. This isn't call of duty, the last thing we need are a bunch of knife tards running around the map one hit killing everything/everyone with this knife of theirs. (I never understood the people who call M203 launchers noobtubes when everyone is running around with an insta-kill knife with unlimited ammo). That being said, I do support the idea of a melee weapon being equipped and usable with both a primary and secondary weapon. Especially with military grade rifles that are designed to have bayonets fixed on them for extra reach (effectively making them a spear as well) for the soldiers.I do not agree with the one shot kill aspect at all. Like I said, this isn't call of duty. This is DayZ. However being hit with a knife would be incredibly debilitating depending on where you were stabbed with it. In the torso you'd have a really good chance of organ damage and infection, arms would make that arm pretty difficult to use if not useless and of course taking a knife to the leg would have a good chance of disabling that leg by severing a hamstring or other tendon. Of course there'd be tons of bleeding either way, especially if you hit that femoral artery with it.

ybm 111 Posted December 2, 2012 lolwut? sword bayonets? umm, no thanks. On the note of bayonets being used for cutting; it really depends on the bayonet you are using. Most bayonets are a form of metal sharpened down to an edge at the point. Bayonets are meant for thrusting into the enemy and not cutting things open. If you really want an example, take a look at the bayonet that comes with the mosin nagant. Skin a pig with that bro.
terminal_boy 860 Posted December 2, 2012 Short of rifles that have a permanently attached bayonet, I think you'd be unlikely to find one for any of the modern weapons scattered about Chernarus as I don't think bayonets are actually issue items for NATO armies these days. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted December 2, 2012 (edited) When Britain went into Iraq, they had SA-80s with fixed bayonets. There's a reason bayonet drills didn't go out of fashion.Modern bayonets are more of a multi-tool than a "stabber". Basically the same as the hunting knife that's already in DayZ.EDIT: A serrated edge wouldn't go amiss. But I'm sure it'll do the job. DemonGroover 8836 Posted December 5, 2012 I'd prefer an old WW1 trench spike. Knuckleduster handle with a 6 inch spike on the side. Perfect for hand to hand and a perfect zombie killing weapon (Romero zombies anyway)
kingpootis102 28 Posted December 6, 2012 No. Not a one hit kill. At least not on players.

All AK weapons have pretty decent bayonets, pretty similar to the ingame hunting knife.I don't think bayonets should be one hit on ANYTHING. Its a thrust with a relative small (6-10) inch blade, unless it was an absolute headshot, it would not kill in a hit. I think making it a 2-3 hit zombie kill and 5-6 player kill would be pretty balanced. Think about it, there has to be some downside to using a melee weapon that also has a rifle. A.Williams 17 Posted December 8, 2012 Same as hatchet but you can also run into a zombie or player and shiscibab them on it just by running to them or by using a melee button
