Are Custom Private Hives diluting Rocket's vision for DayZ ?

Recommended Posts

I love private hives and their custom maps, but I vaguely remember Rocket said he would allow them as long as they don't change his vision of the mod.

Nowadays we can find private hives offering 500+ vehicles, fully repaired vehicles, "epic bases", custom load outs, new weapon sets, and all sorts of other things that completely change his original vision.

These seem a million miles from the survivor lost on a beach with meagre supplies, not to mention that Rocket's vehicles must all be repaired from scratch, offering a sense of achievement if and when you finally accomplish this. Now I can go to a custom hive and jump straight into a fully working gunship, or go to Celle and find an MK48 Mod 0 in a barracks with copious ammo.

The mod and hive community seems to have overtaken Rocket and implemented all sorts of fantastic things. The way it's going they're probably going to end up putting in alot of the same and/or better features than the standalone will have.

With all this, there is no reason to go to Rocket's Chernarus - unless they are custom Chernarus hives that offer all of the aforementioned.

I've yet to see a private hive add anything close to any of the proper updates rocket has implemented.

^ Most private hives seem to customise the game to take the challenge out, to varying degrees.

Many cases are less "diluting" more "cheating"

Are we still going to have private hives running their own version of the game in standalone?

I was under the impression there was going to be a complete "lockdown" on custom scripts.

DayZ mod died the moment those +500 vehicles started getting popular, putting all my eggs in the standalone basket.

You guys are ridiculous.

Those are PRIVATE hives, if you don't like it, don't join them.

I play over at Balota Buddies, and while I wish it had forced 1st person, its a great community with decent twists on things.

Private hives are going to be the way forward although as I understand it, for the SA the code will be locked down so there won't be loads of crazy variations of the game. For the mod though I think it's great that admins can create the experience they want. Of course it means there's loads of rubbish servers but when the customisation is done well, it adds to the game IMO.

Unless nobody's playing at official hive servers. The center of mass in the playerbase does seem to be shifting towards easy mode and GTAMP-like experience. I used to play at hardcore servers, now can't find anything even remotely hardcore worth playing at.

There will always be a decent amount of players playing the public hives. Do you really think you are one of the few people with that opinion? LOADS of people prefer public to private.

And there's a difference between server variables and forced rules. Increased vehicles is fine, because it doesn't force someone to play in a certain manner, but outruling PvP is a completely different story. Of course, that's up to them, but it's also up to me what I think of them, and whether or not I express it.

The private hive thing goes both ways. There are some out there that make it much harder to survive than it is on the public hive.

I think more people go to private hives to get away from hackers than for the easy mode. Private hive servers usually have more active admins that are willing to try and make things right if a hackers bombs a server.

That's fine but you don't have to play on those non pvp servers if that is not your thing.

It's a sandbox game. What qualifies anyone to impose limitations?

Play the game as a roleplaying game, play the game as a hoarding game, play the game to maximize or minimize whatever you want.

The exploration of all possibilities will make the mod successful long term. I'm certainly not smart enough to predict what they are.

Well, Namalsk is certainly a hardcore map, for example. I'd love to see something similar, but larger and with obvious bugs fixed.

But for some reason I have yet to see a populated Namalsk server without this awful side chat, Shift+LMB markers, and with forced 1st person mode. Most servers even seem to have player marking and distance meter enabled, which completely diminishes the whole point of DayZ.

Whilst I agree that some servers do make things a bit easy, there are a lot that don't. The examples in the OP aren't that common and are easily avoidable

I've gone back to playing on offical builds.

So, as far as I'm concerned,,,,yes modified Privat Hives (in general) are making the game-play to easy and take away from the survival element of the game.

In fact the two, cannot be compared.

if you want more vehicles and all, go play Wasteland.

EDIT: Namalsk is aiming at the hard core survival aspect, so is something else altogether.
