Hi!

I had an idea yesterday, that I thought might be kind of cool. However, it requires some effort from the community and might be a bit difficult to organize. In addition, I won't be able to participate in any non-european servers. However, I don't mind if people wan't to copy this event anywhere, it would only make it even cooler.

So, my idea was this! Let's have a race! Let's find a server, let people sign up as participants and race from the south west corner of the map, to the north east corner, following the coast line the whole way. At the end, we will have a prize ceremony, and the price can be for instance a ALICE pack full of goodies, depending on what I am able to collect, or people could even race for pink slips.

So, what do we need?

We need at least two or three vehicles, if not more. No restrictions on what vehicles are allowed, it can be everything from a bus to a bike and everything in between. The only restriction will be that it must be a legit road vehicle, acquired by legit means. There will be no restrictions on spare parts or extra gasoline brought on board the vehicles.

We also hopefully would need a Huey with people both as pilot and as gunners, who will record the event and hopefully comment while recording. A Live stream would be kick ass! And I would also suggest that we have no restrictions on other activities on the server, so the teams who participate face the real threat of other players and all the zombies around. However, the teams themselves (the ones who are driving) are not allowed to be hostile towards each other. It would also be kind of cool if participants could disclose the time of the actual event, so that the only ones who knew about it would be the ones who participate in the event. The reason for this is to create authentic situations, where other players on the server react as they normally would when they heard or saw a vehicle.

If people are interested, I will start collecting prices and accepting donations sometime after this weekend, or find someone who can help me do so.

Just as a reminder: To be able to pull this off, a huge deal of social trust is required. Don't be the asshole who ruins the experience for everybody else...

The idea itself is very interesting, but it will be too easy. Someone can just follow the beach and just hold "w". Can you starve or dehydrate in that time?

First of all, thank you for replying. Hm, it depends. The idea is to get from point a to point b as fast as possible. I've done races in ARMA before, and usually people tend to screw up on route since it's rather difficult to drive fast in ARMA, especially in a competitive environment. Remember that cities like Cherno and electro is filled with road blocks and obstacles, with loads of alternative routes.

I am almost positive that at least 2/3s of the people who starts off at the starting line, won't make it the whole race. We could have them take a different route as well, maybe from electro to stary sabor via cherno, or even have the finish line at the air port.

• A loop around the map with checkpoints manned by judges who potentially shoot at drivers with a makarov just for added drama
  
• Participants can pick from any dayz ground vehicle (multiples of same vehicle is okay)
  
• Drivers can pick their own path to the checkpoints.
  
• Time of day and course should be chosen for their scenic quality
  
• Offer various balanced loadouts of gear (1 tire, 1 engine, or 2 tires, 1 scrap etc)
  
• Drivers and navigator get shotguns, toolboxes, bandages, two cans of food and soda (no blood bags)
  
• Navigator gets GPS
  
• Drivers can ram each other and deploy tank traps but shooting other racers is forbidden
  
• "Police" that would try to stop racers in their given zone
  
• "Camera" men would be deployed around the map and in choppers.
  
• Winner is last man standing or first to complete course.
  
• Awesome admins
  
• Spectate tools
  

Pretty big scale. It would probably need a private server, lots of streams, and real world prizes but it could probably be done on any scale just for fun. A lot of testing would need to be done beforehand to make sure it's balanced and fun. If I could pull this off I would.

Oh, I wanted to call it The Pinto Bean Run.

Thanks for sharing... Alot of great ideas there, and I've been having a few of them myself. I think the main thing is to get it out there, and for me, the helicopter filming it all is crucial. The thing is, making it over complicated my make it impossible. A few small adjustments and a few rules is better than many as I see it. I would like to have it "secret" though, with only the drivers and the organizers knowing about it, so that other players on the server would react authenticly towards any vehicles. And I agree, the teams is not allowed to attack eachother directly.

It's a good idea, however I must confess a purpose made mod for this with weapon attachments would be better, maybey a futuristic mod! I'd pay to play that, like Interstate 76 (anyone remember that?)

In dayz it would be missing the point! A race in a survival / zombie apocalypse? You see my point? I'm sure there are other mods where this would be more appealing! It would be worth a laugh though!

That's pretty awesome. That adds a whole chaos element to it. :) I'd still suggest at least a private hive server and spawned in vehicles just because it's could be a pain to repair and then secure vehicles for the event.

Would be a nice addiction if you added secret / hidden snipers and such to ambush the racers (obviously without them knowing), adds some horror to the racing.

The only problem with having it a 'secret' on a populated server is that it's hard enough to just get a vehicle and repair it without being shot, let alone getting several of them to Kemenka and a helecopter to boot.

I get your point. I have little experience with private hives though, but if a server admin allowed for spawning in vehicles for this purpose, I can't see the harm in it as long as the vehicles are deleted or blown up afterwards.

But I think the replies I've got in this thread makes one very important point... It shows how far it is between idea and realization of that idea. That being said, I still hope to achieve this.

Furthermore, one commented that this might not suit DayZ. I do get his point, but I still think it adds something absurd, and that's why its fun. Just look at how popular the party bus became! I think it might add an element of stress relief. And I don't think it's totally unrealistic either... No matter the circumstances, people do have a need for fun, and to escape reality. Just think about how dark humor is used for people who have been through tough and hard experiences. From an outside perspective, things like that might sound absurd, or even uncalled for, but we still do it. Heck, why do we even play games, if not to have a way of escaping reality, just for a few hours?

Anyways, it seems like people are interested in doing something like this. I'll work some more on the concept during the weekend. If you are interested in helping out, feel free to send me a pm. And remember, I will not be angry if someone tries to do this on their own, with their own rules and regulations. I think it would be rather cool actually. I am all for sharing ideas.

Yeah well, I play on public servers more often than not and it may just be my choice in servers but almost every time I will encounter a hacker of some sort. This could an issue. There would be little we could do if a hacker would to slay us at any point before or during the race. Private servers tend to be less hacker riddled or at least have more admin presence.

Having an admin on and in know would also be crucial. Going on a random public server with an unwitting admin could lead to everyone to finally getting a car only for the server to restart and everything to be lost.

I'm not sure if having vehicle spawned by an admin is the way to go. It'll be kind of cool for everyone having to go find and fix up there own vehicle. But that could take a long time. And to keep them and the players safe at the start point whilst the others get ready would require a lot of security.

If the start point is kamenka I think it would be worthwhile getting together a trusted squad of people to patrol the town and prevent from any bandit attacks prior to the race.

I'm so up for this idea though and it'll happily be a security member to help make this happen

I am with a community called PCGN and we have the resources you need to pull this off.

First, the server. Our private servers are nicely ran, whitelisted, and managed by admins who know what they're doing. We can add new assets to the map whether it's buildings (to make the raceway known) or it's vehicles to get everything setup and the cameras rolling in the helicopters. We do events like this which require knowledge of manipulating the database, then restoring it after the event to its default state with everybody having what they left off with.

Second, streams! Nearly completed, PCGN.TV is exactly what you're looking for. This is where I host the community streamers and youtube archives. Check it out here. I can build a page with multiple streams on it in a wall. Chopper cameras can be all placed there for viewers to see every angle at once and maximize them at leisure. Another page can have the racers. Another page the chaos inducers, and so on.

I really like this idea. I know one of the maps actually has a race track and we thought of doing it that way at first, but this idea makes better sense. We will do this on our server with our private whitelisted community.
