Colour-Blind Player Here, Struggling without Debug Screen

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm Colour-Blind. Red-Brown-Green specifically but I also struggle with shades of Purple and Blue. If you did not know, colour-blindness is the inability to percieve different shades of colours as actually BEING different. It is to do with the brain processing the information from the eyes differently to the way which is 'normal'.

Ever since the Debug menu has been taken away, I've been struggling to read the hud-indicators, specifically Blood. This was most obvious last night when, after an encounter with a few players outside of Cherno, the person I was running with asked me if I needed any blood and I replied with "I honestly don't know."

I'm not asking for the Debug menu back. I'm asking if it would be possible to add more Colour-Blind friendly colours to the hud than what is currently there. Many AAA titles cater to colour-blindness such as the Call of Duty and Battlefield series.

I'm also not asking that this be a change for everyone. If this could be an option within the game options then it would be fantastic.

I now sit and wonder what the response will be.

Hello there

I dont know how easy it would be to implement but an ability to select different colour scheme HUDs would be a nice idea for those with said issue.

Good idea

I've always thought that making an actual blood meter would be much more efficient than that of a number, or a color based icon.

Maybe something like a health bar, or maybe even a pip-boy 3000? Lol

Really nice idea.

Would help some people, since this game started to be so popular.

I agree with the idea of making the HUD color scheme changeable, it would be a rather easy fix. If you plan on buying the standalone, note that Rocket plans to eventually free up even more of the HUD and replace it with visual cues which may also help your situation.

I love that cou can only guess how much blood you have, because you don't have a number anymore, but a color. This is way more realistic.

But honestly, you're right. I agree with you, you should be able to change the GUI colours. I hope that they won't change it to a bar or a number, this would be ugly, but help is needed for you.

When other colours help you, I think this would be a great idea to make a colourblind-friendly option with simply other colours.

Maybe blue and something else? Or black and white?

Greets!

Rocket has been saying he wants as little HUD as possible, and wants players to look for visual cues. I find a health bar or blood meter would break some immersion, just my opinion :)

OP: I agree, something simple could be done, such as a colour scheme change. (I'm guessing it's simple). Many games have an option for this, so should DayZ!

Ok, this is going to sound extremely ignorant, however have you looked at filters? Perhaps a screen overlay filter. Imagine a pair of 3d glasses, each eye has a different colour, could you not place a coloured filter over the game area to change the colour to suit you?

I ain't talking sweet wrapper cello taped to the screen, more away from monitor, failing that,
