Recommended Posts

Hey there guys just got ARMA 2: CO on the steam sale now I've done some looking around and my laptop should be able to run ARMA and DAYZ but usually three or 4 minutes into ARMA it crashes with an error saying i have no memory or something like that. And DAYZ doesnt let me join any games?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Heres my specs

AMD quad core A8-4500M turbo CORE technology 2.80 GHz

AMD radeon HD 7640G 512 MB graphics system memory

4 GB RAM (3.86 usable)

Pixel Shader version 5.0

Vertex Shader version 5.0

I also have Razor game booster

You need more RAM if it's memory related.

RAM is cheap, I'd go for at least 8GB nowadays, 4GB just doesn't cut it - especially with games.

Hello there

RAM may be *cheap*, doesn't mean we've got the cash to buy it :)

OP are you running anything else other than the game?

In your laptop setting, can you "up" the maximum video ram? Search "Arma 2 Launch Options". Perhaps the performance options could assist.

Thanks for the quick replies!

@Rossums well I guess more RAM is a possibility especially with Christmas coming up but as for now my money needs to be directed elsewhere.

@orlok No I am not running any backgtound programs unless you count Steam.

@Blunt_Zephyr I think I did I went to my AMD control center and set the gaming graphics to "performance" as for the "arma 2 launch options" I couldnt find it.

Bullshit, very very few games will use more than about 2gb of ram, they have to be compatible with 32bit systems so they are designed to use no more than about that.

OP, try using the lower quality textures, should use less vram.

Actually Arma2 can use more than 2 GB RAM even if it's compiled for 32bits systems but I agree, 4GB is more than enough for DayZ.

-maxMem=2047

Defines memory allocation limit to number (in MegaBytes).

256 is hard-coded minimum (anything lower falls backs to 256). 2047 is hard-coded maximum (anything higher falls back to 2047).

Engine uses automatic values (512-1536 MB) w/o maxMem parameter.

yet FileCache was always excluded from the virtual address limit, see our developers blog: http://www.bistudio.com/index.php/company/developers-blog/85-breaking-the-32-bit-barrier

-maxVRAM=2047 (I use this, though my gfx card only has a gig or vram)

Defines Video Memory allocation limit to number (in MegaBytes). Use to resolve e.g. Windows problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2026022/en-us?p=1

128 is hard-coded minimum (anything lower falls backs to 128). 2047 is soft-coded maximum , any value over 2GB might result into unforseen consequences!

-winxp ?

Forces the game to use Direct3D version 9 only, not the extended Vista / Win7 Direct3D 9Ex http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ee890072(v=vs.85).aspx

- the most visible feature the Direct3D 9Ex version offers is a lot faster alt-tabing. May help with problems using older drivers on multi-GPU systems.

Midget. When you say AMD control center, you mean the first screen when you power-on ?(that says hit "del" F10" "key-'x'" to enter setup/bios) If not, try looking in there. Check out those launch options. tweak your Arma for your system. Cant/Harder to 'tweak' hardware :)

Yeah sorry, I wasn't clear enough here. I was including the pagefile in that number which isn't RAM. My point is that the 32-bit address limitation is solved long time ago.
