My Thanksgiving morning story

Recommended Posts

Day 1:

I woke up and made my way towards Balota. On the way I managed to scavenge a Makarov with a few mags.. Didn't find any food, oddly enough. I'm guessing this area had already been looted. Continuing on, I just managed to scare up a bit of a horde, so I ran down the coastline and then up through some brush to ditch them. I finally made my way through to Balota airfield, and headed towards the tower. Upon making it to the tower I found an AKM with a few mags, some flares, and some chem lights. Figuring these might come in handy later on, I stowed them in my pack. Time to settle in for a good sleep.

Day 2:

So I woke up at about 5:30am in Balota airfield, looking for some gear. My stomach was just starting to show signs of coming alive as well...and I didn't have any food. No bother, food is always plentiful in Chernarus. I start looking around with my handy flashlight, armed with my AKM that I picked up shortly after arriving here, and swung down to the hangars to see what I could find. Looking around further I managed to score a G17 with 3 mags. Wow...nice to have a light without sacrificing holding a weapon!!! Looking around in the next hangar I found an M9 SD with 3 more mags... what an amazing day! I can take out Zeds without alerting the local bandits...YAY!!! Digging around further revealed a military flashlight...not bad. Headed back to the tower to admire my score, and then off to the town to find some tools and whatever else I can dig up. On my way back in the tower I found a Coyote Backpack! I can only imagine what the rest of this day will hold!!! Suddenly I hear flies. Not just a few, but tons of the little buggers. Glancing around a corner I spot another body. I go and check it out...a bandit taken down by Zeds. Poetic justice in my book! He has a M4A1 CCO, good thing to tuck away in my new found bag. No mags...so I guess I'm out of luck there (for now). I get back to the top of the tower and find a water bottle. Then, suddenly I hear a voice,

"You friendly?"

Spooked out of my skull, I stay extremely still and reply, "Yeah, I spawned yesterday and have some gear if you need help"

The voice replies, "Nah, but I was going to kill you if you weren't friendly".

This seems a rather ridiculous question, but no point in lying. I respond, "I'm kind of a lone wolf, but if you want to team up for a bit, I'd be happy to scavenge with you."

Then, then unthinkable happens. I've been burned a few times before, and figured this was most likely another bad situation. Then I hear:

"... come with me"

I follow him for a bit. Fearing for the worst, I start glancing around...but not much to see in the still darkness of the morning. We continue to walk for a bit until I bump into something.

"Hop in!"

It was a UAZ! He had parked here. At this point I'm not terribly interested in losing my loot, I start to decline...when the voice suddenly says:

"We've got a camp a bit from here and have a ton of stuff. You seem friendly, and we just like to help."

Oh my glorious day!!! I can't believe my ears. At this point all of my survivor senses are kicking into high gear. The old adage of "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" is ringing loud and clear. I ignore it and decide to go for a ride. As I hop in, the voice says, "Switch to vehicle comms"

I follow the order quickly, and am surprised to hear a few other conversations going on as well.

The first voice identifies himself as Adsky. Adsky says, "So, did he make any moves? What do you guys think?"

Another voice identifying himself as iZFresh says "Nope, seems good to me"

A few other voices echo the same thoughts...and we are off. A whole squad of about 5 guys was watching me the entire time before deciding to let me join. Upon arrival, they take me to some tents and tell me to feel free to grab whatever I need, but to make sure I keep my weapons down at all times. I certainly have no problem in this. My stomach is rumbling like mad, so I happily grab some cooked meat and down it. I start looking around.

I ask, "I can have *any* of this?"

Adsky replies, "Yup. Just hang with us for a bit, then feel free to take off when you want. We found a lot of this loot and we thought we'd share it around. Happy Thanksgiving!"

Ecstatic, I dive right in for some NV Goggles, a map, a compass, a watch, a hatchet, a toolbox...and then I find the weapons! I quickly grab some M9SD rounds, an M4A1 CCO SD, a bunch of STANAG SD...and then I stumble on a rangefinder, a ghillie suit, and an AS50 with ammo!!!

"I can even nab the AS50?" I ask, hardly believing my luck.

"Sure, " iZFresh replies, " as long as you are friendly!"

This is like Christmas!!! We had to clear out some Zeds and move around a bit. We had a blast doing some night raids on Cherno and Electro getting some medical supplies. I even found some antibiotics!!! We sat around a campfire, cooked some more meat, and just hung out. Finally, a group I can just relax with.

At the end of the day we decided to keep a simple camp in a safe place, and each feel free to come and go as we please. As it was late and I was wiped out after the fun and excitement, I decided to turn in for the night. The end of day 2...I can't wait to see what tomorrow holds...

... but never get too attached to your gear ;-)
