Private servers?

Will the standalone have private servers? I couldn't find any info it but if it will not this will be the dealbreaker for me personally.

I've seen a lot of games get ruined by hackers, and the only thing that up untill now has worked to keep hackers out has been private servers. Call of Duty 2 and 3 have been utterly ruined by hackers because of this. In call of duty it was very frustrating getting killed by a hacker, but that had no effect on your character. Even if the devs manage to keep the DayZ standalone pretty much clear of hackers because of the permadeath the impact a hacker can have is enourmous. I'm curious how the standalone devs wil plan to deal with hackers. Will it be played through steam and have VAC? That would be a good start. Also I think the option to report hackers and have active global admins dealing with hackers straight away is important. The community has a lot of willing members that I am sure will gladly volunteer to help out.

I've been working for days and days to develop a character, find loot and find the rarest items. If I was killed by a normal player I would have said well played and allthough the loss had been huge I would have had peace with it because it was fair game. The fact that yesterday I lost my coyote backpack, rangefinders, m4a1ccosd, AS50, m9sd and all the tools in the game (exept for that dodgy crowbar) because of someone driving around in a bullet proof tractor shooting me with an auto aiming gatling gun has made sure that in this mod I will never ever join a public server again. I'll rent my own server if I have to.

Now I don't wanna be all whiny about it, I think the mod is fan-fucking-tastic and I haven't even payed a single cent for it. I even bought Arma II + Operation arrowhead (wich up untill now I've never ever played and probably never will) just to play this game because I'm in love with the concept. It just doesn't get much better than that.

If the standalone doesn't have private servers though I won't buy it. period. If the plan is though to keep allowing private servers and you're looking for people to help out in ridding the game of hackers just tell me where to sign up.

Strictly speaking not, you're right. I think I suggested a suggestion though. It all depends on how much of my post the devs plan to incorporate into the game. But when that question has been answered I will be sure to clearly formulate my suggestions in the proper forum to be sure I'm not suggesting one should ask a question about a possible suggestion in the suggestion forum :P

Hello, The SA shouldnt need private hives in my openion, but if server hopping and combat logging, hacking etca is still in place. I dont see any problem joining hives... I think private servers are the best ones. even if noone is hacking on the pub ones

Your issues seem to assume that the SA will have public servers riddled with the same problems that they do now. This is highly unlikely. If you read some of the dev articles on what's being done to negate the problem you'll see why.

I don't assume that dev's arent trying hard to keep a game (relatively) hack free, I do know that it has been tried before by a lot of game developers and they all have failed. (But I will dig through the devs posts perhaps I will be convinced... I doubt it though.) My question wether the SA will have private servers still stands but I feel a slight suggestion to a negative answer on that topic :P Yeah I can probably read that in the devs posts aswell... I guess I have some reading to do.
