I think as close as you're going to get with a general consensus is "private hive" servers. There are so many servers to play on (public and private hive), there isn't just one that everyone uses.

Give a go for few Public and Private Hive Servers, make your judgement based on that.

You need to find out what works for you.

Personally I enjoy playing on highly populated servers. First I look at ping, then number of players if both seem good then I will join and have fun.

With all the hacking and exploits that happen in this mod there's not too much incentive to settle in one server/hive so jump around and explore

I have been playing whitelisted server hosted by www.fpsgamerz.com They have Cherno and Namilisk maps I like the Cherno one don't think Namilisk is whitelisted. More friendlys and more cars then alot of them and best of all you get nvg's in startup. They have started to allow outside skins to be used which should be interesting.

DayZ Redux is probably the best server to play on right now if you're looking for the authentic DayZ experience. They have servers with almost all metagaming disabled (no peripheral dots, no name tags, no waypoints, no third person). Most fun I've had in DayZ since I started playing.
