Help Me , Got HACKED!

So What Happened Was that i went to go play dayz and played on this server for about 3-5 hours right , and after that i logged off to go to sleep. i woke up the next morning ready and happy to play dayz again. but sadly that was a big no no , what happened was some "key stealer" took it and replaced it with another. and everytime i try to join a server it says "bad serial was given in setup". the reason why i think it is a key stealer is because i tried multiple things to fix it and it dosnt work but what everyone else said was it is a key stealer , and they told to come here. so i wish ppl that might of exp. this could help me or the creators of the game to help me.

Have you been downloading any software lately? Your CD-key can't just be "taken" from you, you need to allow a programme to do so.

umm , T_T. i think i know. my friend told me to download this thing over skype from him and it would allow me to run dayz better or something. but still. how does one fix it if my cd key is taken. i heard u can edit it back in and it works or something?

Your friend stole your CD Key? Some friends you have. :/

Most of the time stolen cd keys are then sold to hackers so I would expect to see it banned soon.

umm , i dont think he joined the fourms. prob. he is a hacker and like what he did to me is illegal. so i bet he wouldn't risk him self over the fourms

You can put your key back in but ultimately if someone has stolen it they will always have access to your account.

Running Operation Arrowhead should update your registry with the correct key, don't be surprised if you find someone else using your character and/or the account globally banned soon.

what exactly did you download from him? did you run it? what was the file name? (maybe it wasn't a hack at all, all I see is speculations)

do you have the steam version? how exactly are you running the game? (from steam, dayzcommander, .cmd file, ...?)

you say things like "download this thing" or "I tried multiple things to fix it" but that does not help at all.. you should be more specific

im running dayz from dayzcommander , and sixluancher. and we were in a skype call and said to download this exe to make ur game run much better for ever.

so if i launch oa it should be fine , but the part about how someone has acess to my character?

You are better off just buying a new copy of OA so you get a new key or waiting for standalone, otherwise you will always be sharing the account with whoever stole it and/or anyone he sold it to, often hackers.

Ensure you have removed the malware from your PC before that though.

and i might wait for standalone. i always loved watching ppl's vids on dayz and always wanted it. finally got it and this happens , but i think this game is way to good to be a mod for a game

Can I speculate ? - Your "friend" offered you the cheats as they are "undetectable" and "just run this man", (which is why you haven't said what the .exe was in either nature or name), the file turned out to be a program that gave your key to your "friend" and they walk away laughing.

In the above scenario, I would say it's a lesson you should take note of.... "There is no honour among thieves" (or in this case cheats).

Of course it's very likely that the OP wanted to try something that isn't legit. But hackers also take advantage of people that don't have much knowledge of PC gaming or PC security in general. Sometimes we have to give people the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully others will read this thread and it may help a couple of people avoid being tricked.

There's a sticky to help you with the bad serial thing and also loss of CD-key. You could contact BIS and they might show you some mercy. If nothing else they can kill the CD-key so noone profits from the theft.

and i just found out something. it turns out that little skype breach that happened actually was someone whom hacked my friend account and made it seem like it was him by looking threw out old messages and actually sent me a bypass system which takes my cdkey and then they sell it
