jaytmuk (DayZ) 621 Posted November 12, 2012 (edited) Been thinking of ways to curb player killing :PMaybe add an Odour system in Dayz SA and if you kill other players or zombies you have blood on your hands (Rocket has already said blood on hands is an option). The blood causes an odour that zombies can smell from a certain distance (depending on what cycle the zombie is in) and they are agitated and come investigate the odour.Maybe you can only get rid of the odour by washing in a well or lake (maybe the sea too lol)Maybe all guns have a weight that slows you down (the more powerfull the gun the heavier it is)Pistols are light. M.I.A TIDNAB 13 Posted November 12, 2012 pvp is part of the game. remove this/or over punnish and you will be removing a lot of peoples fun.if this game did not have the pvp side to it i would be bored already...
Rage VG 4033 Posted November 12, 2012 (edited) In agreement to the post above me, I propose that instead of making PvP less fun or harder, just make fighting zombies more fun/necessary. Take for example, Dead Frontier. That has a PvP system but most people do not partake in it because it's much more entertaining/rewarding/satisfying to fight a giant boss zombie such as a Flaming Giant Spider for its loot. We should focus on features and systems that promote co-operation without punishing lone-wolf players. The trading system is one such example. A lone-wolf doesn't need to group up with people he needs to trust in order to get what he needs, he could instead be gathering things on his own, happen upon a small outpost that's willing to take whatever excess items he has for ammunition or resources. This does not completely shut out Bandits, as they can still trade between one another even if they are exiled from settlements, and these trading outposts would give bandits more things to target, which then means they are less likely to target new-spawns. aksuduud 64 Posted November 12, 2012 Meh, punishing player killing is stupid. And rage, could you please not change the colour of your text, makes it annoying to read.
Dreygar (DayZ) 178 Posted November 12, 2012 Any signs of a player killing another player is stupid. Blood on hands being one of them. I can just imagine someone sniping another player, yet they have blood on their hands! Metaphorically speaking they would, but realistically... no. It's way too easy for people to gather the best equipment in the game. Hoarde them in tents, so death is not a concern because they can just rearm.Player killing is a part of this game, but hopefully with new and interesting content it will drive people to explore that content rather than sitting on a rooftop sniping people. Some people just can't resist it though. At the end of the day super boredom will result in just wanting to shoot people.
Jars (DayZ) 63 Posted November 12, 2012 I think once/if Zs have the ability to effectively navigate to snipers in thier hidey holes , it will not be any where near as desirable to snipe at everything that moves .

Bribase 251 Posted November 13, 2012 pvp is part of the game. remove this/or over punnish and you will be removing a lot of peoples fun.if this game did not have the pvp side to it i would be bored already...I understand that but I think Jay still has a point. DayZ is about weighing up risks vs reward of certain actions. Do you kill and gut that goat or is exposing oneself in the middle of the field to risky? Should you open fire on a player or do you risk giving up your position to a counter-sniper? Do you investigate the vehicle or could it be a trap? I think adding a cost to looting bodies by increasing your detection distance is a fair payoff and a great way to deter (but not unreasonably punish) banditry.Killing and looting, while an integral part of DayZ is too high reward and in many situations low risk. Jay's idea works but I would like to add another suggestion to go with it; Corpses should attract zombies in general for a while. This means that the zombies' attraction to fresh blood is plausable and trying to detect other players by looking for spawned zombies is harder to do in high PvP areas.
