New Items When Spawning?

Hello. I haven't played DayZ in a while but I remember when spawning there wasn't many items in my inventory. But upon playing a few minutes ago on a new character I started with a hunting knife, a map, a hatchet and 2 bandages. Is this new or was it the server I joined? Another thing, is there somewhere I can look up DayZ patch notes?

You accidently joined a private hive. My advice: Find a private hive on DayZ commander and favorite it. Problem solved.
