Fix Land Navigation

Recommended Posts

Sigh... hopeless...

The way the game and the aforementioned sites represent grid coordinates is wrong! Read the first post of this thread, it already has an example! Yes, either way will still get you the same coordinates. One is backwards and thus incorrect.

If I took takel's coordinate and read the map in the correct form...

roughly, 0612. more specifically 064123 (or something like that, only have the large scale grid to hand atm

across the corridor then up the stairs. columns then rows

So if you read the map correctly and you used 064,123 as your grid coordinate you would find yourself near Berezino. Again, it is a simple fix of the GPS reading the correct coordinate, and then forcing sites like DayZ db to represent the correct coordinate.

If you read the Army study guide Chaboski and still can't see that Arma 2 does map reading wrong.. then well.. there's just no hope for you.

You are mistaken.

Since you've made this post, I've looked this up. You should try it.

No organization reads maps the way you're describing,

Map coordinates are ALWAYS read right, then upwards, from the bottom left corner.

If you read the Army study guide Chaboski(sp?) and still can't see that Arma 2 does map reading wrong.. then well.. there's just no hope for you.
There may be no hope for me, but that's because I'm trying to explain something to you.
I encourage you to go on DayZ db, find a grid point and then try and locate that grid on the DayZ map using the correct method. You will obviously be at the wrong point because Day Z, Arma 2, and DayZ db respectively read the map incorrectly.

EDIT: This is a screenshot from DayZDB Chernarus Map. Surprisingly, being RIGHT!!! :o "WTF?!"

This is from the in game map. Note, the same coordinates point to the same place, both reading maps correctly.

Explain your problem clearly, because if you read maps differently than this, everybody on the planet must be wrong except you.

EDIT AGAIN: In my second quote, you incorrectly used the word "respectively".

I'm not a grammar Nazi, by any stretch of the imagination but "You and I have been correct 0 and 1 times respectively." would be an example of the right way to use it. ^_^

I've thought this ever since the first time I played as part of a group. Everybody probably wouldn't have the same exact map if salvaging is the only way to find things.

(unless they found a bulk of them)

This would make it necessary to add street names and more road signs, because topographical features would only be marked the same on a map of the same issue/production.
