when do you guys do it? or why?

i had to do it 10 minutes ago. im probably screwed anyway. the scenario is this:

1. Me and friend stuck in Krasnostav

2. Used last of bandages, food, and water

3. Bandit stole our bike

4. Being the healthiest of the two of us, we decided i would make a run to Berenzino for supplies.

5. Get Alice Pack full of med supplies, food, and water with some bonuses.

6. Running back, get knocked out my a zombie in one hit and bleed uncontrollably.

7. Alt+F4

i did it cause it was bullshit. I was at least 6 feet from the zed when he hit me.

As far as I'm aware, you shouldn't be able to. The keys have been binded to just open the menu. And if you do it through Task manager and shut the game down you get marked, by the server logout message, as a combat logger.

But, my friend, DayZ is all about those bullshit moments. If you get lucky enough to die by a zombie, odds are you get your loot back anyway since it won't eat everything you have on you. Just suck it up and walk back! Even if said town is a hell of a run back, if your loot was worth it then.. well.. it'd be worth it, basically.

However.. medical supplies are NEVER worth losing face by combat logging for. I mean, a Alice pack is aquired in 5 minutes and medical supplies are abundant at the hospitals.

I can say with hand on heart that i have never and will never use any form of Alt+f4 or Ctrl+Alt+del etc. I'm not concerned with keeping my gear as i never get into the 'high tier' equipment (never owned NVG). If i am injured regardless of Zed or player i wait it out if unconscious and bleeding for the "you are dead" screen and just start again.

To me the fun in the game is going into highly contested areas looking for the basics (hatchett, matches, knife, water bottle, sidearm) and then just surviving and watching people firefight it out in cherno etc with binoculars.

If a bandit gets the drop on me or shoots me and i have no time to bandage as he comes charging i simply shrug my shoulders and say 'fair play'.

Zeds when they chuck norris you is annoying but hey its a zombie apocalypse they are supposed to be scary!

Edit: @Darkwater, or set up a tent to store equipment, though i don't like this it is a legit way of playing.

I never combat log.

I only disconnect if I encounter a hacker, if I spot zombies in the horizon, if it rains, if I think it will rain, if I'm hungry, if I'm bleeding, if I'm surprised by a lake, if I hear shots, if I hear an engine, if I shoot at someone and they shoot back, if I find a can of pasta instead of sardines, if I get scared or if I think I'll get scared anytime soon.

I'd say "Dallas" just covered everything that needs to be said on this subject. But he did leave out disconnecting when you come up against the most deadliest thing in DayZ ( The Killer Ladders and Doors ).

To be honest, rain is more of an incentive to stay on than anything else. Specially if it's raining at night, then I can do what I want uncontested. Unless I walk up a zombie's ass, BUT...
