jinx747 0 Posted June 16, 2012 Okay, so I just bought Arma 2 with all the extra content with my brother. We started the game up and we realized only ONE person can play on each steam account, and essentially on each copy of the game. The steam account belongs to him, so he gets to play, that's fine. What I want to know is if I can start my own steam account and buy the game AGAIN and download Day Z again and be allowed to play on the same computer. I do not think it should be limited to 1 person per computer, so is it okay if I buy the game with another steam account and play it on my own?
esaciar 1 Posted June 16, 2012 Should be, but that's a bit awkward...can you not just develop a rota?
jinx747 0 Posted June 16, 2012 Should be' date=' but that's a bit awkward...can you not just develop a rota?[/quote']Sorry, I'm not familiar with the term "rota."The way I imagined it would work is I'd start another profile on my computer and download the game to that profile. (after buying it again with my own steam account) I just find it weird that no one has had this problem before, doesn't anyone have to share a computer? xD
Publik 404 Posted June 16, 2012 Well, sharing a computer should be fine. Sharing an account is a little bit less common.Either way, your DayZ character is linked to your copy of Arma2.
esaciar 1 Posted June 16, 2012 A rota would mean you have designated periods of time to play. You get Monday, he gets Tuesday, etc.The only difficulty is that you share a character and it might annoy one or the other if you kill it...by hook or crook. But I reckon, preserving that character as a team might be pretty cool... Not to mention he has horrible taste in weapons and I would have to find new ones every time I played. I'll go ahead and pay for another copy if that's what it takes to have my own character.Well' date=' sharing a computer should be fine. I thought that sounded absurd, this makes more sense.
theamazingmort 0 Posted June 16, 2012 There is a way to have two separate copies on the same machine, but you would need to mess with the Windows registry. I'd advise against doing this if you've never modified the registry before (as you can kill your Windows installation if you screw up), but it does work.Process :Open the registry (regedit.exe) and search for "Bohemia Interactive Studio". It should have a few subfolders in it, like "ArmA 2", "ArmA 2 OA", and "ArmA 2 REINFORCEMENTS". Export the entire "Bohemia Interactive Studio" folder to a file on your desktop called, say, "ARMA2_FirstAccount.reg". Now delete the "Bohemia Interactive Studio" registry folder. Close regedit.Install and activate ARMA 2 & OA on your second Steam account. Run it at least once. The new CD keys will be written to the registry. Open regedit again and export "Bohemia Interactive Studio" with the new keys to a file called "ARMA2_SecondAccount.reg".Now, when you want to play on the first account, double click "ARMA2_FirstAccount.reg" and add it to your registry, then run the game. Same process for the second account and "ARMA2_SecondAccount.reg".A bit complicated if you haven't done something like this before, so it's up to you if you want to attempt it. And just a note that you NEVER want to share these .reg files with anyone else, because they contain your CD keys.
codeine 3 Posted June 16, 2012 you can just buy it on a separate steam account, that works.
novaseline 3 Posted June 16, 2012 I see this working. But you must install the 2-same games, in different directories. Still only need 1 steam install, 2 accounts. For rocket to implement 2 different accounts for 1 game. I think would be a dire mistake. That many would abuse.Oh you died? Get your other account, that has a gun and is laying in the brush. Right where you were scavenging. Shit would be lame....As is, buying 2 games. Eliminates most that.If the engine doesnt conflict. I could easily, easily. Run 2 arma2 on my single PC.This game is not the resource hog people think. Compared to what hardware is currently out.
Jemoeder 51 Posted June 16, 2012 You can create a new player profile @ Player Profile screen? Then just play on that name? Every player profile has there own Player ID >> own account ,Only thing is your brother can play on your account and you can on his but thats between you 2Right? PITN (DayZ) 2 Posted June 16, 2012 DayZ works on your GUID or CD-KEY. So seperate game copies with their own unique CD-KEY will allow you to have seperate DayZ characters.
yenene 0 Posted June 27, 2012 My father and I bought 2 copies of the game, we were able to play our 2 separate accounts before, we just had to reinstall battle-eye and verify files of the addons every time we wanted to play. Since we have to use beta client to play DayZ it's not possible anymore, no matter what we do, we always get on the same character ingame. When we switch we have different CD keys, differents player IDs, different profile names and reinstall battle-eye each time but we still have only one character available.Buying a second copy for nothing we feel like we've been scammed :(
