New player advice: Avoid crowded servers

Recommended Posts

My advice for new players is: Avoid crowded servers. Servers with more than 20 players usually are groups of hackers playing death match with each other, or - even worse - hackers hunting down and killing regular players for fun. There really is no point in trying to compete with players who have unlimited food, weapons and ammunition, who can spawn vehicles and teleport themselves and other players around the map.

If you want to play DayZ, find an empty server, up to 5 players, hackers rarely join these servers, as there are not enough people to have fun with. There you can learn how to stay alive, collect some items, eventually build a little camp, without being killed every evening by some script kiddie who is not capable to play the game without spawning item crates and slaughtering other players helps them to overcome their inferiority complex.

I really hope DayZ/Bohemia Interactive/BattleEye will be able to get rid of the hacker problem in the standalone version. I already gave up any hope for the mod.

I'm sure most new players would be able to work out that if they don't want to have a hard time, don't join a populated server.

And for those that do.... Natural selection.

Advice to new players.

Find community with purpose(want to bandit? find a bandit clan. want to survive? find a survival clan)

Play on private hives(public hives are full off poopie pants scripters and lack admin support +75% of the time)

Wait for Standalone

Buy Standalone

Never go to WarZ

I am really not sure how I could be more clear. I feel like those are good tips.

Oh also..Namalsk is an amazing map...however its popularity has drawn hacker/bandifags to it and the Rail Gun. It's lame. NEVER EVER EVER play a populated, public hive Namalsk server unless you just want to waste time with this mod.

Here is better advice.

* Join a "Private hive server that is white-listed"

This.

Expect to die a lot when you first get started but you'll learn something from every death and it will make you a better player in the end. Don't expect to go in to the standalone and do well if you've been running around in empty servers the whole time, lol. It'll be quite a shock to the system going back to full ones. I'd recommend looking for a whitelist or password protected server with good admin and a decent player count instead. :D

I think this is the best answer, or find server with a whitelist. They usually have admins on all the time and are hacker free.

Hello there

All the above suggestions are fine, but "shop around". Find a server that's right for you. There are ways to limit encounters with cheats, but that doesn't mean you still wont encounter some fools now and then.
