An idea for the Radio.

Recommended Posts

I heard that the radio is going to make an introduction into DayZ. I have an idea on how it could work :D

I have no idea how it's meant to work at the moment, but I think it should work with frequencies. You can tune in to different frequencies, and with the radio, you can only hear others on that frequency, and they can hear you? That way, you could either meet up with friends on a frequency, but if a bandit happens to tune in and hear your plans, he can, so you need to be careful! The default frequency would probably be packed with players talking ^-^

The radio should have 3 options, On (While holding it), so you can hear the players much more clearly, On (In backpack), so you can hear them, but not so well, but you have hands free for shooting people/doing other things, and Off.

What do you think? Sorry if you disagree, but if you do, post why :D Also, if you have any information on how the radio is going to work, just say :D

Well, I believe rocket already has plans for the radio, but this is a good point you make. Sadly, radios wouldn't be needed much for we have chat programs like TeamSpeak, Skype, Ventrillo, RaidCall, etc. that there is no real use of the radio, unless you would want to play authentically without using foreign programs.

For some reason when i had the radio it worked. It didnt tell me any cord or morsecode messages but it showed me all of the locations to hospitals on the lingor map. I notice that map have radio towers by all of the medical tents around the map. Try it for your self and see i think it only work at night though.

Unfortunately i think radios are a waste of time and effort because most if not all clans/groups will use teamspeak/mumble/ventrilo etc instead. I think maybe a radio station broadcasting on a random frequency every hour (changing its frequency every hour maybe) broadcasting in morse code helicopter crash site co-ords, and maybe you have to fix a radio up to find the frequency and decode the morse code to get the co-ords, maybe the radios could be in the radio towers at the airfields and in the big cities.

Rocket said if you are good at something in real life you should be good at it ingame. ie- morse code & ham radios? :P

well if the radio worked for me then some one else should try and if it work for them then the radios should spawn in game they can really help you out at night.

i think its a great idea, to implement a semi global voice chat. i thinkit could already be enough to make 5 to 10 channels... and I think it would be cool if sometimes automated radio transmissions like the "green mountain transmission" or maybe sometimes radiotransmissions from airplane in great distance with loud ambient noise.

You can't talk to some random dudes on the server in TeamSpeak.

Exactly :D Also, taxi services can be on a channel, for passing-byers on the radio to hear where the taxi is :D
