Re-designing the crashed helicopters

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I want to suggest some improvements for heli crash mechanics:

1) About the spawns.

Maybe now there should not be super animations like a chopper flying in the sky then descending and crashing. But some logic needs to be implemented.

First of all, I can't understand how a chopper can crash in an open field. Even a novice pilot would be able to perform a crash landing (the chopper may be a little broken after that, but NOT CRASHED). Zombification? No, how can they get infected if there are no zombies nearby?

To sum up, the spawns must be changed. A heli crash should only spawn on sides of rather big hills (critical failure of engine or something else - crash), low/medium possibility; in the forests (ran out of fuel and nowhere to land - crash), low possibility; and upon villages and cities (pilots zombified - means crash), medium possibility. Notice: if crash takes place in some built-over place, it may spawn in some destroyed house.

2) The loot.

It should be not as now. In the crash the soldiers must have died. And I bet that the pilots will wreck their heads into pieces in a real crash. 2-4 soldiers may spawn as zombies.

About the loot itself. Where can weapons be stored in a real chopper? There are two places: soldiers holding their equipment and additionally some in the luggage (chopper's tail). What do we have now? Weaponry scattered around the chopper and zombies.

I suggest a different system: misc loot (ammo, medicines, food) in the tail (low chance), in the chopper (on the floor) with medium chance. The corpses should be scattered all around the chopper (1-3) and a couple of zombies. Zombies will have primary and secondary weapon on them, while the corpses will hold only secondaries and some items like rangefinders, compasses etc. The pilots cabin will require a crowbar to bust it open, and the pilots will have the same loot as zombies do on them. Also maybe radios (MYSTERYYYY!!)

------------------------------

For now that's all! I will add things up! Awaiting your comments!

I think the reason the helis are crashed in fields is that if they were in forests, they would probably bug out and people would not be able to loot them.

I actually dislike the crashed helicopters anyway, and think they should be removed. Though at any rate they should at least be more rare. It just doesn't make any sense to me that there should be so many crashed helicopters around.

If it's an airborne virus, the pilot freaking out in mid-flight isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

If you still remember the thrill of finding your first crash site, I think that's how it should feel every time.

After a while finding a downed chopper becomes a bit "meh".

If there was only an absolutely tiny chance of finding a chopper, and they were properly random / really well hidden, they could be exciting again.

Less is More, so they say.

I kinda wish there would be "other" crashed military vehicles. (instead of all of them being helicopters) Each would have it's own loot table, this way the high end gear can be spread out and lessened. Add just 1 type of sniper to spawn at each type. The .50 cals would only be on maybe a crashed Heli and maybe a APV? DMR and M24 on say a humvee and tank? You get where i am going. As it is servers who restart every 3 to 4 hours fluck up the gun-conomy, this way not every restart would spawn a helicopter crash site but maybe 2 tanks and a militia pick up. Not that I don't think this is the solution to the abuse of server restarts, but it would help some.

(disclaimer) This isn't a suggestion or a plea to be implamented. Just me rambling.

Choppers fly at a good height. And also the pilots' cabin is enclosed, so maybe the crew will freak out, not the pilots.

Thanks for the replies anyway, I'm thinking.

Yea because there's never a car/plane/train/boat/truck/helicopter/jet/bike/etc. crash in the real world due to equipment failure right? Maybe the choppers mechanic was a zed and sabotaged it. lol.

Why not? Shit happens, planes do crash because of birds... So why couldn't engine fail ot a bandit shot the chopper down with his M107?
