I've been playing with the in game music turned off for weeks and I find that the game is far less immersive without it. I love the music - very creepy and paranoia inducing - the trouble is I have a competitive disadvantage if I leave the music on and others turn it off. So I tend to just turn it off.

So I was wondering, how would people feel if muting of the music was disabled in the game?

I'm sure this will be controversial.

Release the kracken.

You've summed up exactly how I felt about it too, when I used to play. (Waiting for SA because of hackers)

I prefer my Kid Cudi over the DayZ soundtrack, personally.

And maybe a little Led Zep when I'm in a vehicle.

what is the point of a music playng in your head of nowhere...

I see that point of view but at the same time I liked it. The music has a way of keeping on edge - the way you would be if in a post-apocalyptic world where people around every corner were out to get you.

I would say that I'd be a happier leaving the music on while others didn't if some of the ambient sounds were removed, certain ones sound deceivingly close to branches breaking and car motors. Those sounds may lead to you taking the wrong course of action which can get you killed and that may be considered 'too punishing' (though certainly there are visual elements which could be accused of the same, such as seeing a boar or tree stump and thinking it's a player). One of my favorite sounds is the distinctive rim-shot that seems to come out of nowhere, definite tension builder but it can't be mistaken for anything else.
