Chris529 380 Posted November 14, 2012 thermal scopes can be annoying but hey it's only for the L85, not too bad. It's WAY more annoying having someone with a hacked in anti material rifle with thermal shooting at you from like 1 km away
dallas 5195 Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) You realize bullet drop is a property of ballistics, right?I'm sorry Dallas, but how does that disprove ANYTHING I've said? He attempted to shoot a 300m target with 600m zeroing... Failed. He then switched the zeroing to 300m, and shot a 300m target.. and hit his target... Um... Duh?Are you just stupid? Do you have any experience behind a firearm?I just wanted to prove that bullet does indeed rise, like I was taught by my shooting instructor.Where do you think the first four projectiles went? They passed in a ballistic curve over the 300 meter target, because the first four shots were zeroed at 600 meters. So yes, ArmA does simulate ballistics. You see ArmA's rifles are configured like real rifles, shooting the projectiles in an arch to counter the force of gravity. The bullet doesn't stop it's climb untillit has traveled half the distance to the rifle's zero, right above the targets head. You see unlike arcade shooters, where the bullet is fired in a straight line from the center of the screen, in ArmA the bullet is always spawned from the weapons chamber, which is located slightly below the shooters view through sights and scopes. That's also why you can't rely solely on artificial cross hairs to make accurate shoots, when you're playing in 3rd person perspective, because the 3rd person camera is elevated high above the the rifles line of fire. But you're taking the word simulation too serious, it's just a video game genre invented by the gaming press, so you can tell your COD clones apart from each other. The same way that Need for Speed is different from GTR racing. ArmA is labeled as a "mil-sim," while COD is a "cinematic experience" or a "twitch shooter." If you want hardcore simulation, go by VBS2. Edited November 14, 2012 by Dallas
aksuduud 64 Posted November 14, 2012 ArmA accuracy is very simple indeed. There is no bullet rise, only bullet drop. Very little windage correction needs to be done. To call it a simulator is very far-fetched, as it's not completely accurate. The ease of aquiring targets and making very minute adjustments at extreme distances, firing, reaquiring, firing, reacquiring, firing... Can be done pretty rapidly in this game. Ie, very unrealistic and not a good simulation..50 Caliber weapons are heavy, have huge recoil, and generate a lot of dust when fired. Making it difficult to reacquire target till it settles/view returns. So firing from anything but a supported position is unrealistic.M249/M240 are also heavy LMGs that can be hip fired but are generally supressive weapons and not that accurate. Though while in a supported position they can be very effective in both accuracy/supressive fire.Assault Rifles, same deal. Yes you can fire them easier from unsupported positions but only realistically accurate to about 150 yards by the average trained soldier. The fatigue of trying to acquire the right sight picture and maintain good trigger squeeze to shoot a 300m target using iron sights in an unsupported position can be pretty intensive. What the game does is take some elements of realism, but inevitably it is a game. HARDLY a simulator. It just blends realism/fun better than COD/Battlefield/Medal of Honor and so forth of the more "arcadey" games. If an m249 is a heavy light machinegun may i ask what is a light light machinegun? And ArmA is not a ballistics simulator, its a tactical military simulator, thus it attempts to simulate maneuvers and tactics.
The Bean Marine 29 Posted November 14, 2012 Thermal scope is in the Army so why not in a Zombie Apocalypse game since the army would probably have tried to kill the zombies...
xfortune 91 Posted November 14, 2012 The game is much better without the AS50, M107, DMR, and L85.
ComboBreaker 9 Posted November 14, 2012 (edited) I personally think that the game's most rewarded skills are ability to stay hidden and finding your enemies before they can find you.Thermal scopes just fucks that up and ruins the game.I dont care that scope is on riffle, noone can stop you from having a sniper riffle in your backpack or sniper buddy nearby.Hell, even if it was just a thermal binocular taking up 10 slots,it'd be still unfitting for this type of game.No balance crutches like "batterty dependant" can fix this broken mess.DayZ won't suffer and lose anything if it will dissappear.I think that most of thermal lovers here are simply owners of the aforementioned thermal weapon and thus are against it's removal.Guys,in standalone you'll start with a fresh character anyway,so be unbiased please.
