Long story short, cows are not as easy to kill as you would think. A point blank shot from my Makarov to the face barely frightened it. The fewer shots I have to squeeze out, the better. Especially when I'm standing just outside of Cherno on a relatively populated server like I was in the video. What's also necessary is that if you're near a town when finding the animal, is to make sure you fire the primary facing away from the town. This minimizes the hearing of the sound created by the firing of the weapon from within the city. Not too sure if it depends on zeds though, they hear/see all just when you don't want them to.
