GOM3RPLY3R 9 Posted October 30, 2012 To Everyone who is a new player as of October 30, 2012 (really since last year),If you are a brand new player to DayZ and you have NOT downloaded anything yet and/or you are having issues installing and locating files for the game to run, please read the following:DayZ is a zombie game that is based off of AmrA 2 and ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead(A.K.A: ArmA2: Combined Operations). The get the official DayZ game to work properly, you should download and install the game in such as the following steps:BEFORE ANYTHING: Since this game (mod) runs off of ArmA 2: Combined Operations (A2 & A2:OA), you will need to purchase a valid copy, for example, Steam is the most common now a days, but if you would like to do retail, you may find a VALID copy of it off of Amazon, Ebay, etc. You may also use ArmA 2 Free since the mod doesn't run right off of it but you still need the full version of ArmA 2: OADOWNLOAD AND INSTALLATION:1. Now once you have your games, run the installations fully starting with ArmA 2 first before OA to ensure a proper install.2. Your files should look like something like: C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2 [and] ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead. You do want to start the games (in Administrator mode if possible is recommended) to fully register the game into the machine and prove that its there.3. Next you want to update these fine machines (only A2:OA) to their latest update (at the moment 1.62.98842). There are a few places that you can download it from such as Six Launcher, DayZ Commander, or just the manual at the Beta Patch page. Six Launcher is the most recommended but I find DayZ Commander to be more useful and easy to navigate (and it just looks so nice ^_^). HOWEVER, you MUST, and yes, MUST download the versions first. Most of the ArmA 2 versions are past the 1.57 update, but not past the 1.60 and 1.62, which is needed to actually do the build update. Here's the 1.60 and here's the 1.62. Just select any of the mirrors (Gamefront is usually best) and obviously do the 1.60 first.4. If you get Six Launcher or Dayz Commander, you can just download DayZ right into the files. Just make a file in the A2:OA file called @DayZ, then just download it.5. From here, it should give you the latest install of DayZ.6. Now start your ArmA 2: Operation Arrowhead and go into your Extensions menu and there should be a selection named "@dayz" or "DayZ". If there are two, just select both.7. Now restart the game (it should prompt you) and it should be all ready!LOADING SERVERS TO ACTUALLY PLAY:When you load servers and try to go into servers on your machine, you ABSOLUTELY use DayZ Commander or Six Launcher if you have it or use it. Loading servers from there is so much faster, easier, and plus it gives you more information and better search results. Just go on one of the launchers, pick a server and get playing! It's that easy!I hope this really helped. If you have any questions, please refer to any topics that may help you before you actually make one, and if you have trouble getting started with the game, you can always find threads about how you play, what to do and not to do, loot, etc. Many people may wonder what stuff is and how to use it, and that is what forums are for. GOM3RPLY3R 9 Posted October 30, 2012 Hello People,I did post this in the wrong place, but I still never found a post about it. I would like this to be a primary thread.Now, when I try to update ArmA 2 OA, meaning, the beta patch, it insists that I don't have ArmA 2 installed, and/or it may be corrupt. I find this to be very annoying since I tried re installing 3 times already and it still doesn't work. What happens is that I press the exe for the patch to run, it asks if I would like to update I say yes. Then after it does the "Extracting" thing, it sits for about 3 seconds, then says this: "ArmA2 OA is not installed on your computer or installation is corrupted." I still do not understand what the heck is going on. I checked all the files, they are not corrupt, and all the files are in the places they need to be for it to run. Please help me with an answer, and don't disregard this thread saying, "It's already somewhere else" because it's NOT. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

But when I put it in the right place with a simple paragraph, you just move it to where it cant be seen? Thanks alot because I have been trying for three days STRAIGHT to get this working, and there's no clear problem. I did everything that is posted all over the internet and what is recommended and it never works. Please just make the topic (about my updating problems) a primary thread that can get answered on. I am starting to think all the admins are like my older brother, rude, unhelpful, and try to make everything their own way. And listen, I'm trying to make this work so I can play YOUR game I'm not trying to spam everything. I just posted my problem in the most looked at place because troubleshooting rarely gets looked at, everyone goes for everything except that. And when someone does, they have that problem and aren't usually a help to others.
