Help with Steam/Gamestop PC downloads

I downloaded my Arma II combined ops through gamestop PC downloads, but i know there is a way to transfer liscenses so that steam recognizes the game as a valid game. How? i try to copy and paste the product codes that the gamestop pc downloader gives me but steam says they are invalid. anyone have any tips or who regularly does this? any help would be appreciative. im really wanting to plat DayZ. oh also when i try to launch through the playwithsix thingy it opens up steam to then launch arma II and it say i havent purchased it. Hence here is my issue. thanks!!!
