Permanent Inventory!!??

I just played a game and quit. THen I joined an other server where I spawned with a gun and a crossbow when I had previously no weapon... Is there servers where your inventory is stored for A SPECIFIC server and servers where you can bring your old stuff??? I also dont understand how admins can decide to get higher spawn rates or different building when in the FAQ about server hosting it says admins are powerless.

Please redo the faq section about this because I'm REALLY confused!

There are 2 different kinds of servers - main hive and private hive. Main hive are the official servers with persistant world and the private hive servers only store your data on that particular server.

There are also some servers that gives you a little more starting gear when you spawn so you probably went on a private one with its own rule set.
