ALT F4 Penalty suggestion

OK. FIrst off, I did search this forum but couldn't find a similar idea. Apologies if this has been suggested already.

At the moment, we know that the server can distinguish between a correct log-out and ALT F4.

If someone invokes ALT F4 to combat log, the server spawns all of their gear on the floor (guns, ammo, backpack and tool belt items). The server then signals the hive which deletes all of the items from their inventory.

The person has survived successfully, but without any gear. (So no point in combat logging).

Advantages: Incentivises people not to combat log or they lose their stuff.

Disadvantages: At present, the server cannot differentiate between combat logging and say, a CTD. So in theory, if someone crashes, then their gear would drop over the floor. However, presumably they could just go back to the server they were on and pick it all up again. If they CTD while in combat, then that would just be unfortunate ;)

Stuff like that can't just be "unfortunate". This kind of stuff has been suggested before but most servers prevent alt f4 anyway..

well maybe for you its good idea but for the rest of us not so much. take me for example, i get ctd all the time esp in combat

situations im almost always ctd'ing in combat i mean i camp for hours with my as50 in stary then when i see someone i shot at him

and i missed but then i ctd for no reason i have no idea why. another time i was looting nwaf and some guy spotted

me and suddenlt starts firing in my direction then i get ctd wtf.. it seems like i simply cannot enter any gunfight without ctd'ing

unless i win the fight and other guy is dead then i dont get ctd

I like this suggestion but it's not a groundbreaking new idea (There are ∞+1 "alt+f4" solutions on here)

Dropping all their loot (bandages, bullets, beans n bullshit) would just leave a mess, and would be a pain in the arse for folks suffering legitimate disconnections.

Might work better if an improper "abort" drops only the players backpack and guns for example.

It only has to deter people from combat logging, and that would probably be enough incentive without taking it too far.

At least that's my view of it.

It's far from perfect, but this is a good idea.

pffft thats nothing, at the back we smoke opium and we have russian black market dealer distrubuting it while he hide under

the seat to avoid detection from driver. also we do lines of coke and meth and just this morning some chubby girl OD'd from it

but we just laughed on her and went back to bragging about our dick sizes and highscores on COD

I did search but probably not to the same dilligence as thebirdolux. Sorry but I don't have a lot of time to check this stuff out. I thought I'd better put it in the suggestions it before I forget. My bad though.

Chabowski - Yes, probably would be easier on all concerned if it was guns and backpack only. Thanks for good suggestion. Who cares if they lose a military torch or w/e :)
