Steam Launch Error

Recommended Posts

Yesterday evening I went to start Arma 2 through steam, and it gave me some message about the files being in some outdated format. In order to play it had to convert the files to a more recent format or something like that. I didn't think anything of it so I didn't write it down.

A few minutes later it finishes, and now every time I go to start Arma 2 Combined Operations I get this message: "This game is currently unavailable ( Application Running )"

Regular Arma II, and Arma II Operation Arrowhead start just fine. It is only affecting "Combined Operations." I've tried to verify the game cache. Ran that about 10 times until it didn't do any updating at all. I installed Battle-eye again. I tried with and without beta. With and without launch-options for dayz. Countless restarts, running in Administrative Mode etc.

I've also been searching the web and forums and have had no luck in finding a solution, though several people have had this error message. There is another variation that says "Please try again later" instead of "Application running" but they are NOT the same issue, so none of the related fixes for the former case have had any affect.

If anyone has had this issue and resolved it please let me know. For now I can boot the game through manually navigating to and running the game's EXE however I'd rather have the issue resolved than simply avoided.

Perhaps do the steam overlay install again?

  1. Download and install beta patch from http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php (Latest patch is in the green field top of page)
  2. If you are met with a "Password screen" then choose the top version on page (Not in the green field)
  3. Go to the Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead directory (for example C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead) and right-click -> edit on .cmd file "_runA2CO_beta.cmd". Search for ":run" near the end of the file. Add ";@dayz" without quotes to "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca".
  4. Run "_runA2CO_beta.cmd" and enjoy playing!

You may create a new shortcut to "_runA2CO_beta.cmd"

Hope it helps.

Hmm, I was about to do the same thing, but I saw the warning and cancelled out of it. I was looking to fool around with some of the helicopters and tanks found in the base game.

Strangely, I do not have "Combined Operations" as a launch option, even though that is how I purchased things in order to start playing DayZ. They seem to have installed themselves as separate games, including the 2 DLC's I got (British, Private Military).

Until I figure this out, I am going to leave things as they are because I don't want to lose the ability to launch DayZ.

Are they going to fix this at some point? Apparently I can use DayZ Commander to play, but I would still prefer using Steam.

That's normal. When you goto play OA, "I" get an option dialog box asking if I want to play Arma 2, OA or CO. It's there, just not a game itself.

Saw the warning and cancelled out? What warning?
