DayZ Redux - DayZ purist focused custom DayZ Mod (Formerly DayZ DIAF)
venthos replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hahaha. Yeah, that was me alone in the UH60 blackhawk. I wanted to tease the rest of my squad (who LOVE choppers) by buzzing their location a few times at 350km/h in the UH60. I fully intended to crash/destroy it and not let anyone have it (a 350km/h chopper is ridiculous for DayZ)... but I didn't intend to crash it right at that particular time. The UH60 corners like a brick, not like the UH1H which is pretty damned nimble for its size. I cut a turn too sharp and couldn't compensate for the loss of altitude. Boom. I was amazed I didn't die, but then since my squad was nearby (and apparently at least two others) everyone converged on the crash. Good times. But, no, the UH60 won't be in the mod :P It's just too ridiculous for my tastes I think. Even the UH1H is pushing it as it is. The weapon thing is a possibility. I initially changed loot from 0-3 mags per gun spawn to 1-3 mags per gun spawn (Guaranteeing ammo w/gun spawn) because of the default loot system DayZ had in place. With the new server-side loot system, maybe it could stand to be tweaked. We'll see. For vehicles, my only concern is how fragile they are. No one will want to repair a vehicle if any guy with a shotgun can pop your tire like a balloon and render it useless because parts are so rare. Changing the FUEL mechanic, I think, would be a better choice. Make each fuel tank (not jerry can, actual fuel tanks) only give out 3-5 jerry cans of fuel per server restart (it's a zombie apocalypse... you're not the first one to the fuel tank). This means you'd have to constantly seek out fuel tanks with fuel left in them. "Hoarding" jerry cans becomes a real possibility with finite fuel per server restart. Maybe even randomize it so half of them are randomly empty outright. Each time you jumped in a vehicle you'd have to plan out fuel stops along the way or risk stranding your repaired vehicle out in the middle of nowhere. Get unlucky with already tapped fuel tanks, and you're screwed. Left to walk on foot jerry can in hand and hope your car is still there (or that someone isn't laying in wait to ambush). Thoughts? If by "fix" the flashlight you mean not shine it through building walls? Engine limitation. If you mean more ambient light and not this 'cone of light', I kind of like it that way. I am unsure how this works and would need to research it, but I'm not adverse to adding that in for military flashlights only. -

DayZ Redux - DayZ purist focused custom DayZ Mod (Formerly DayZ DIAF)
termhn replied to venthos's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
A few suggestions: -Vehicles I really think that the DayZ approach to vehicles is the wrong one (barely any vehicles but abundant parts). Rather, I think it would be much better if there were lots of vehicles found all around, but VERY limited parts. AKA, decrease the spawn rate of parts a lot. -Weapons This is kind of the same argument as vehicles in that I think there should be lots of civilian and/or military weapons (obviously less military than civ, but still...) but the AMMO should be VERY VERY rare. My 2 cents. I'm definitely enjoying the "mod" of the mod so far :) -
My clan makes community campsites and all gear is shared. We also respect vehicle ownership. If someone runs 9001 meters to find the Black SUV, we all help him repair it and it is now 'his'. When we congregate at the campsite, we all drive our vehicles away and hide them elsewhere. This accomplishes two things, one the vehicles are not bunched up, thus making them easier to find by outsiders. Also it doesn't really allow for one person to hoard vehicles, when they log in, they are alone at their personal vehicle. If they find a second one, they either have to abandon their current one, or more likely they call a clan mate without a vehicle to grab the extra one. This allows the person with a vehicle already to choose which one they want and the new clanmate that comes gets the other one. There isn't any reason to steal vehicles from each other.

New map added: Takistan This map IS compatible with DayZ Commander - this is the first map that has a publicly available key from Vilayer - https://github.com/ayan4m1/DayZ-Private/blob/3d01d096ef4e302707cb3a2db8a0623e5fede5de/deploy/Keys/vilayer_takistan.bikey Please note that there are no default vehicle spawn points for Takistan yet - you must add them manually in the database if you want vehicles. You can either install through DayZ Commander or download the addon here: http://dayz.st/files/DayZTakistan_1.3.zip

Sorry to hear than mate, I play a good gaming community, not a clan but rather a group of like minded players, we help each other quite often, myself on more than one occasion have picked up players from the edges of the map and flew them where they wanted to go, we share gear and vehicles on a regular basis so your experience is based on one particular bad clan.

Private Hive is the way to go, but the admin abuse I have experienced from there is unbelievable. Because of this a friend of mine decided to start up a new server where people don't get banned for finding the admin's camp. Currently there are the normal amount of vehicles on the server but if it gets more populated we can add more. So far 1 clan (Dead Horse with Party Hat) play on this server so there may be PvP if anyone ventures up north. If you are interested then search for: BRAND NEW PRIVATE HIVE MAX VEHICLES 8 CHOPPERS DEDICATED ADMINS + ANTI HAX The IP is: 94.229.79.106:2314 The Server name will be getting changed soon. Enjoy

Filling new orders as we speak! Do you have any idea how much time it takes to test everything we have been releasing? We have been working nonstop the last week or so in order to release these new features. We have plenty of staff members, that is not the issue. We have NEVER been this busy before, because of our rMod release and DayZTools and a few other tools that we offer, sales have exploded. We are working right now on new guides for rMod and we are going to open up a forums on our website where all of our customers can help each other out as well. We will also post a FAQ in our forums. All of this stuff takes lots of time, and we will be all caught up on tickets and orders today and go back to the usual much faster response time. And as far as I know, we are the only host with rMod working 100% where you can spawn in all kinds of vehicles and buildings and weapons, and they will actually save on your server like normal. We are adding a database backup tool soon and in the middle of making our own whitelister. We have been coming out with new features every week, and we will continue to improve upon each feature as time goes on. The reason tickets have been a tad slower, is because everyone has lots of questions about our new features and like I said, we will be posting a FAQ and guides very soon. I don't know how you can consider anything we have done "subpar" so please just be patient with us, we just released these new features and it takes a little bit of time to get everyone situated. -
‘CoD Kiddie’ Analogy Regarding PvP Is Entirely Wrong
basilone replied to Trizzo's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Being a bandit is fun...doesn't mean you aren't good at the game. Before my crew started on a new private hive, they had (I was pretty inactive for about a month) multiple FNFAL/M14s, various sniper rifles, multiple M4 CCOs with tons of stanag mags, 2 vehicles, our own personal NVGs with about 4 spares, our own person ghillie suits with about 6 spares, a few GPS devices, and much more. About half of it was looted from the spawn, the other half was either stolen from a camp or taken from a dead body. Calling someone CoD kiddie is just someone being butthurt. Either they forgot that you can't trust anyone, or they are not a good enough to win a head to head engagement. If someone who you claim, has very little experience with how DayZ is "supposed to be played", is able to kill you...just embarrassing huh? And to the people that say CoD doesn't take teamwork: neither BF3 or DayZ require teamwork. It is just how the people choose to play the game. The small scale of the MW3 maps puts an emphasis on fast reflexes and good accuracy, but you can still work as a coordinated squad if you choose. -
Chernarus Plus; climate, vegetation and ground variety
Septimus posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I did a short search about Chernarus Plus and what was already suggested, the results were a bit broad to be honest, so I decided to share my bit anyway. I've read a decent amount of excerpts from what Rocket said about the actual Chernarus Plus, I understand him and and his team are keeping the actual content pretty the close to the chest for obvious reasons, so maybe some of the things I suggest will be pretty obvious and some of them not so much, but these are features I'd really like to see in the standalone, and I know people will agree on some of them so here it goes; The only recurring bit of information was that the map was going to be larger and if they wanted to keep 200 or more players on each server they would have to work on that. So considering those facts and seeing that the servers now are more than capable of handling 100 players, the map is going to be twice as large to say the least. That said, it'd really suck to see a single climate or type of ground on Chernarus Plus. If there is enough variety on a single map there won't be a real need for additional maps, and since it's pretty obvious Rocket and his team are not complete morons, it definently won't have a single type of ground or vegetation on a map that is twice as big so here it goes; - I want to see at least 3 types of ground on Chernarus, the usual lush grasslands of the original Chernarus, a tundra or may be arctic soil I don't know, and desert, perhaps semi-arid. But in a nutshell there should be, GRASS - SNOW - SAND, for people who are not so familiar with the types soil, and these features may even bore more amazing features; Since it would be pretty surreal to have grass turning to into frozen ground in one pixel, we'd need 2 other types of ground to compensate for the "degrade" effect, obviously. The means of survival changes according to the environment and habitat, it'd be really cool to actually see the variety of means of survival in a single game. Not mention the variety of items. You'd need a different ghillie suits for each of these climates, otherwise you'd be a sitting duck for others. You'd need actual thermal clothing in order to survive in the cold, in even colder climates you'd still need shelter or heatpacks. In the desert if you're wearing the thermal clothing you'll get dehydrated perhaps 8 times as fast haha. If you are in regular clothes 4 times as fast. If you are in desert clothings 2 times as fast compared to the normal climate. Say you have a coyote back pack with all slots full, you have an as 50 at your back, and a L85 AWS at your hand (why you would need thermal vision in desert climate beats me but anyways) Because you are carrying a lot you're losing fluids faster. The maths are up for debate. Now since it's harder to reach those places, it should be more rewarding when you do. More military loot, more vehicles, less zombies if Rocket decides they actually give a shit about the climate. This I think, is a key point for the variety's existence, other than cosmetic value. - Now for the cool effects that we might see in those different environments; Frostbite: After a while, if you don't have thermal gear to protect you from the cold, you are bound to have this. Effects should be obvious, shaking hands therefore bad aim. Perhaps painkillers should help, this is up for a debate but even if you do use those painkillers to suppress the effects you are eventually going to get.. Gangrene: Now it really sucks to be you. I'm kind of indecisive about the effects, maybe after sometime you drop dead, if it actually moves further away from your extremities. Even so bad aim should be incurable with pain-killers and limping should follow, eventually death. Now I know for a fact that some of you might really enjoy chopping off your friends fingers, arms and legs with a hunting knife for fun, but I don't really see how that adds to the gameplay. I would love to see it though, perhaps if it's not the trigger finger sometimes it's ok to chop a finger, or a leg could be substituted with a prosthetic leg considering our survival was surgeon before the zombie apocalypse (sarcasm). Cold: You get cold faster. (duh) But when you're in desert at night it's freezing, and at arctic it's now really cold. Sleepiness: This is something I'm not really sure of, maybe I want to see this because I want to slap my friend in-game because he suddenly thinks it's a good idea to sleep in the middle of a blizzard. But it really can contribute to the gameplay, lone wolves would sometimes give in to the cold in the tundra, start moving slower and slower and die eventually. Mirage: When you're dehydrated and in a desert, even though your hydration meter doesn't cause you to lose blood, if it's say, light red, there should be a chance that you'll start seeing mirages. Towns, players, oasis, zombies, travelling vehicles you name it. Sunburn: Sun burns, it hurts, you lose blood and fluids, and bandages aren't gonna stop it. Happens when you are out in the sun in deserts for extended amounts of time without shade or shelter. - Now for the elevation, as I don't think vegetation is subject that should be debated for so long and there aren't any spesific types of shrubs that I'd love to see in the standalone. Mountains: I really want to see mountains in the standalone, like proper mountains; rocky, impossible to climb unless there are certain routes that you know for a fact that they will eventually lead you to the top or whatever, otherwise you might meet dead ends. Now whether or not there should be good loot sometimes is up for debate, but I really think that it would make a difference for setting up camps, hiding stuff. But what I'm sure of, is that PvP in the mountains would add to the game as there players must come up different strategies. Valleys: Where there are is elevation, there are valleys, where there are valleys, there is the advantage of higher ground. I think this pretty much covers it. Blizzards: You get cold faster, and therefore all the other effects faster. You move slower and of course visibility is minimum if not zero. Sandstorms: Visibility, dehydration maybe if you don't have desert gear, slower movement. TL;DR: Read the bold parts, if you are interested read more. There are other stuff that I like to add, which I'll with time, which I don't have now, but for now, what do you guys think? -
Are Choppers needed in DayZ?

This is probably the reason I've crashed the Huey while landing more times than it has been stolen from me. Only one or two of my group are willing to get into the Huey with me at the stick, and I've killed them a few times. At least we can laugh about it. I went into the armory to practice before flying in DayZ, it took at least 20 tries before I could get the Huey off the ground without crashing it and close to a hundred before I could land. In the air I'm getting fairly decent and pushing the helicopter harder but overall my skills are very limited. Now on the other hand, put me in the Hunter in GTA:SA and you'll see a good pilot. I'm sure there are some excellent DayZ Huey pilots that make it look easy, that doesn't mean I would agree that the Huey is over powered or that it shouldn't be available. I would much rather work towards finding a reasonable solution to the ease of spotting camps. How hard would it be to simply make the vehicles and tents get gradually more opaque as the distance from them increases up to the point where they are no longer visible. Make it so that you need to be essentially hovering directly over top of the vehicle or camp for it to be visible. This would reduce the effectiveness of the Huey for spotting camps, while still retaining the Huey for the other purposes for which it is entertaining. It would not address the ease of spotting helicopter crashes, but an hour of driving around in a vehicle will net similar results. I'm gravely disappointed that someone would have reported you for that. I'm glad I can call my wife a cunt without her throwing a hissy fit. It is just a word and some people assign way more meaning to it than it deserves. I've always wondered how women get fishnets on without tearing them. That is a hot mental picture, hairy legs in white fishnets, why shave?! -

Are Choppers needed in DayZ?
NavyCuda replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
They are relevant because if one person is not very effective with the Huey, there is a strong likelihood that there others who do not utilize it to its full potential. This means that the effectiveness of the Huey and its capability are based solely off of the individuals using it. At no time did I ever suggest that operating a firearm even remotely compares to operating a helicopter. The point I was making is that an individuals real world skills should not be a factor when considering what they can or cannot do in a game. You could go a step further, and require that each user registers the class of vehicle they have operated in real life and the firearms that they have experience with. This is unreasonable. There is only one person on these forums qualified to make decisions for the DayZ community as a whole. It is my intention to present my opinion in such a fashion that he does not consider your opinion. I have not denied that being airborne is the most effective means of searching out hidden camps and vehicles but that is a problem with the game and not the mechanics of flight. If we had camo netting, better rendering at distance your point would be moot. We don't know how this issue will be addressed in the standalone, so it seems unreasonable to remove the helicopter before we even know what the standalone will be like. What exactly would you report me for? I have not directed a single derogatory comment towards you throughout this conversation, I simply took a moment to add some levity to a comment you made. Take it however you like. I've bought mine some stuff as well, but I realized that it was a waste of money to buy something that gets used once or twice then is essentially ignored, buried somewhere in the bottom of the dresser. -
The Most Overlooked Part of DayZ - What will happen to it in the Standalone?
Erizid replied to Timberwolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The reason zombies dont spawn at vehicles right now is because they didn't want someone driving at max speed in a pickup truck spawning the whole server and crashing it. This will not be an issue for standalone because of the zombie optimizations. So expect to see zombies spawning at vehicles. -

The Most Overlooked Part of DayZ - What will happen to it in the Standalone?
kebman replied to Timberwolf (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The biggest problem with zeds are... I go out to a barn in the middle of nowhere. Suddenly fifteen zeds spawn. WTF??? Fifteen zeds next to a barn in the middle of nowhere? It doesn't make sense. In the city, yes, in the middle of nowhere, no. No, no, no! Usain Bolts I can deal with, to a certain extent. Well, unless they have eagle eye sight... Some of them have that too. Or are so smart that they follow me friggin everywhere. I don't like that either. I kind of like how zed behaviour can indicate where other players are. I don't think that should be removed - especially on really big maps. But I do not like how zeds only spawn around players (and not around vehicles). It makes it too easy and convenient to find players. Also, zeds shouldn't immediately respawn if you kill them. Rather it would be much cooler if they actually gravitated to the noise from other areas. Also another reason to abolish the system where zeds only spawn around players (although I realize how this is a challenge due to lag, and so on - but they need not render anywhere else than where players have vision, for instance). Odd zed behaviour: Good indication of other player. Regular zed behaviour: Should not be an indicator of other player. -

Jex =TE= (DayZ) replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It is the ultimate camp busting tool but only available to whoever owns the chopper (and with no drawbacks whatsoever - the chopper is neither realistic or authentic). No camp is ever safe, they can all be found by people determined to find it (or more easily by cheating) but why include a platform that can find everyone's camp over the course of an hour. The thing that makes camp relatively safe is the time needed to search for them. A clan of 5 guys could walk the map edge over the course of a few days, spread out 100/200m apart and find camps, maybe not every camp but they could and it would be a lot of work. So with a chopper in the map i wouldn't even bother with vehicles. I don't want the shitty ones that can't go off road and if I had a chopper and I wanted I could use it to find all the best vehicles and take them away for our use. With this in mind it makes me think, why bother in the first place" BTW it isn't an exploit, its the game engine. It renders that way for everyone. -

Bakst replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've never been much of a camp person to begin with. When I started playing DayZ months ago when it was even more alpha than it is now, tents and vehicles were so reliably buggy that I never even bothered to try and save them. I just acted like they didn't exist! In the current build tents and vehicles are more or less working now, but I still haven't bothered to set up a camp because it's a risky strategy, and as a lone wolf I have everything I need on my person. Now don't get me wrong, I do understand the usefulness of camps. I helped set up a big one once when I was rolling with a clan, only to have to relocate it because someone found us out. (The clan guys were surprised as hell, like somehow north of Krasnostav is the ULTIMATE secret bandit hideout LOL! But this was a lame group anyway: they temp kicked players off their own server just to safely refuel the UAZ -- *so* lame!) I'm talking about camps because my point is this: I like that the chopper is a camp-busting tool -- no camp should ever be completely safe -- but being able to spot things at a distance by exploiting different rendering distances for objects and terrain is borderline cheating and should be addressed in future updates. That exploit is the problem, not the Huey itself. -

I do understand the chopper theory....but the fact that Wormloaf doesn't want ANY makes me wonder how many vehicles are being horded up north....yes the guys I run with aquire a chopper as often as we can...but we do it for 2 reasons...1.) to acquire a vehicle that the 'horders' are hiding up north (YES we know where everyone is hiding them north of NE airfield or by the PBX spawn) and 2.) to give us an eye on the sky while our guys are doing ground assaults.... The choppers are vital to people so it can be easy transport for others across the map without a vehicle as well....thats why I wish side chat was enabled...because it would help others communicate a helluva lot better...and troll those dumb enough to tell us their location over side lol.... So Venthos....any thoughts on enabling side chats? I dont mind picking up people in a vehicle and giving them transport off the coast...and it may help more small teams build up with a bigger squad..... -

ZomboWTF replied to Jex =TE= (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
sure, choppers tend to either get people somewhere and do "touch and go" missions, or fly around searching for camps and with the bugged out trees, finding hidden stuff is just too easy, once someone on a server gets a chopper and has one or two people with him, in a day there will be only one HUGE camp, because all others were found and until you find that camp, no one will find vehicles, or be able to place a tent safely, or hide a repaired vehicle they should either fix the trees and remove the indicators on the screen side, or make a server option to remove choppers from a server -

The server will be probably restarted at 6:30 GMT +9:30 A password will probably be put on the server in the future, after we gain a healthy population. We will probably implement a warning system in the future, the basic idea is that you will get strikes for doing things like alt+f4ing, being racist and etc. and after a certain amount of strikes you get perm banned. We are still working out the complexities. If you want to report hackers please PM me on the forums to report hackers. (A skype account will be added soon) Rules: No hacking.
