It was already auto saving by the time vehicles were added back in. The manual save function has served no purpose other than placebo for months.

Added additional anti hacking software, and utilised a nifty program to check tents/people/vehicles within seconds highlighting cheaters/undetected hacks (hacks that have a work around for battleye and anti hacks) Got my first victim too!, mediman I hope you read this you'll be spawning with all you hacked in gear binned about 500 ft above the sea lvl...cheating don't pay...earn your gear, no excuses. Like it is stated above you should learn about the weak parts of vehicles. Chopper: Best to shoot the rotors. Or try to hit the pilot. Just spamming ammo is not the best tactic. I killed a chopper with two hits (AS50 + AS50 Nato ammo). How did the chopper kill you? Were you standing in open field without movement? Strange story to be honest - maybe you need some more practice (no offense or flame!). -
I was wondering why people are collecting like hamsters all the time. For instance, our "gang" have been busy for 2 hours to collect stuff, in that time they have killed a couple of bandits and actually everybody has everything again. Then we find a chopper, it takes 2 hours to get it fixed and get everybody at it at the airfield, they all come up to the chopper and i see they even have 2 SUV's. What do you think they want the chopper pilot to go and do ?? Well the little buggers want me to go and fly around and find other peoples camps for gear , WHAT THE FUCK, we have been playing for 4 hours and everybody is geared up with 2 sets of everything. I can not understand this human behaviour, what do want to do with all that stuff and vehicles, they just want to park it some where and don't touch it any more, they just want to collect to have it stolen again, most when we come back on the next day the camp has already been comprimised and the party is starting all over again :( I just want to have fun, i just want to do something with all that stuff instead of druling over it with a boner. It is almost all the same everywhere, find stuff for couple of hours and then start looking for more stuff for a couple of hours. So my question again is WHY ???????????? Can't we just have a fun game and use all the fun tools and toys. Thank you, Allie (helicopter pilot for BBC)

First off, if you're a teal deer (tl;dr) or have ADHD, it's safest that you just go now. It has a preface. With sections. I tried structuring so it's easier to take in. I know everyone's a fucking professional on these forums, I thought I'd just chuck this in 'cos it seems like a fun idea that would add a whole bunch to the DayZ experience without altering the existing elements we love ohsomuch. Devteam will probably never see it though haha. Ohwerllz =========== | PREFACE | =========== I) Firstly, I'm not a carebear, nor a bandit. I don't KoS (I'm the type to hold open doors for people IRL, I won't ruin your day for fun), only return fire. This is *NOT* an "answer to PvP", it doesn't need one. I personally want PvP to stay as it is. II) I'm a lonewolf survivor, fully decked with ~ 40 hrs play now. Current character has been alive since around 1.6. The motives of this idea are not so we can all prance around happy together. It'll probably get 0 replies and 6 views but I'll throw it out there anyway until it sinks into the abyss of DayZ forums. III) I don't play WoW ;) Fuck, I didn't even get D3. Last game I played with classes was Borderlands. IV) I came up with this solely because it seems odd that everyone in Chernarus before the breakout was a fit helicopter mechanic, trained in guns and first aid, that when shit hit the fan thought the best idea was to grab a bandage and a box of Panadol before heading to their local beach. I know some people hate the idea of classes because it sounds WoW-ish, but give it a read. ============= | OVERVIEW | ============= I think if classes were to come to DayZ that it's massively important that it doesn't impact on the sandbox nature of the game, i.e limit what certain "classes" could and couldn't do. Everyone should be able to repair vehicles or heal themselves, and do ANYTHING. But in a world where there were doctors and mechanics beforehand, it only makes sense that we have certain skills that help in certain areas, and you could choose (or randomize it in true rocket style) what area you wanted to have the advantage in. A part of the appeal of this game is that everyone is equal, and I get that, and I love it. I wouldn't want this idea to impinge on that at all. I think skill trees and other typical elements of classes from classic RPGs would segregate everyone too much and be a balancing nightmare. But the simple idea of choosing what you were before SHTF would be ohsocool. I think it would equally as interesting if you could/couldn't identify different classes. =========== | CLASSES | =========== These are what I thought of: [DOKTOR] - this one would probably require a new injury system (which would be cool anyway, I hate the idea of bandaging from a fall :/ ), likely one with different grades of cuts, and grades of breaks. - starts with a first-aid kit (a few more medical supplies) - Can stop a small bleed without bandages/equipment - any first aid given by a doctor gives some blood back. - The ability to perform CPR to bring someone back from unconsciousness/*LOW* (e.g 2%) chance of reviving killed player to being alive with a very low amount of blood. Defibrillator kit maybe with limited use? I know lifeguards have portable ones. - Performs faster first aid [MECHANIC] - also, would require different repair system, but the idea of jogging across the countryside with a wheel or an engine block in your bag and jerry can is a bit OTT to begin with. And I don't know why cars would be in working order, but missing wheels. Are zeds really hoodlums that took the wheels for money? I think it would be cool if they were abandoned simply because they needed new sparkplugs, and the driver didn't have any. - Spawns w/ mechanics toolkit on belt (where matches etc go) - Can pick up "car parts" (one item, 2/3 slots like scrap metal, contains various car parts like fan belts, plugs etc) - Repairs vehicles easier with less parts. - Can identify the exact part needed to fix, and how many [sOLDIER] - Less reticle movement when ADS. - Slightly faster movement speed - Weapon/ammo spawns slightly more (e.g slightly higher chance of better weapons at military spawns etc) - 1/2 more carry slots. - Starts w/ pistol? Or an empty rifle... something that wouldn't cause massive spawnkilling again. [HUNTER] - Starts w/ xbow/knife/matches/hatchet (one of, randomly chooses) - Get more steaks from carcasses - More chance of hunting class weapons like xbow/Winchester from barns and civilian loot spawns - Can perform silent takedown with knife if unseen/undetected. - Higher chance of finding tents - Can construct shelter from wood (with hatchet). For this to be an advantage weather would need to be more of a threat (I'd fear rain at night more than zeds, it's almost certain death if you get wet with no warmth or shelter in that climate) [CAREBEAR] - Eats sadness - Shits rainbows - :) ============== | CONCLUSION | ============== I think classes would add a bit of variety to the gameplay, and increase the need for P2P interaction (there is currently no, to very little, need to interact without bullets) without forcing it on anyone. I mean, you don't need anyone's help in DayZ currently (other than blood bags, but I can kill a sheep with MUCH less risk for the same thing). You can do everything just as well as the next man, so you have no reason not to shoot him. In a real apocalypse (I know, I know, rocket isn't going for 100% realism) if I were hurt, and I could tell someone was a doctor I sure as hell would think twice before killing him for his beans. It wouldn't FORCE interaction in any way as you could still do everything yourself, but it would give SOME reason to, if you chose to play that way to team up. Thanks for comin', it's been fun. I know rocket or the devteam most likely won't see it or ever implement it, hell it'll probz just sink into the abyss of the forums with no replies but I had fun thinking of it, and it feels like it would be a fun addition that wouldn't cut off sections of the game to anyone or change your current style of play. Reply with what you think of it though! I'd like to to see the community input on the idea just out of curiousity.

I say stick with everyone is the same at spawn but add in character progression but with a twist in that you find books in game to add class stats.This would make losing your current fully geared/plus highly educated character a pain in the ass.Also it would help force a stay and play mentality to the new infectious diseases aspect that longer lived players will be dealing with in SA.Spawn rates rare to push for exploration and to add to endgame.Put an ingame timer in so that you must survive set amount of time while you learn the skill like in MMO's.Example is 8 hours after finding a medical dictionary you get a pop up stating "you finished studying and now are seemingly proficient in medical practice ;) ". MEDICAL BOOKS IN HOSPITALS=ability to give blood transfusions and to easily diagnose infectious diseases HUNTING BOOKS IN CABINS=peripheral dots for animals only added in to game with ability to craft traps MECHANICAL BOOKS IN INDUSTRIAL=ability to repair vehicles SCIENTIFIC BOOK=?? -
Could always find a group of competent-players or ones that, at least, have a plan. Most of my times, I'll find an other survivor or two and if s/he isnt a PC_Zombie (aggros at any/every-thing, always at loot-spawns...never looting) we'll join-forces, find a vehicle and go for bigger-gear than we could by ourselves. End up having good-times, most of the time. Sounds like you'd be interested in a free-for-all, no-holds barred, death match. All the vehicles, all the weapons. Have you seen/tried any of the other mods for Arma 2?

Just like when You find a wheel and repair the vehicle, you should be also able to steal wheels and sabotage the vehicles! It has to work both ways in order to be valid! I like the thought of being able to place a satchel in the car and blow it half way down the road, that will deter car jackers!

Been playing in this server for a week and can recommend this to everyone who seeks a good server that is hacker / kid free and has active admins. Gearing up is rather fast as you can scavenge in the southern parts without getting instakilled by snipers and such, pvp is oriented towards the obvious hi value loot zones and vehicles. A good home server :) -

I believe thats because tents and vehicles should autosave now to prevent duping, which makes the save option redundant.

"Let's get on and lose all our stuff before standalone" "k" So we got on, found many vehicles including a helicopter and the few accessories we didnt have. Decked out in barracks/helicopter guns and coyote packs we were driving around the map honking at anyone we saw. We dropped one of our guys off so he could eat dinner, and on our way back to him we saw someone just a short ways away at the edge of the road. We stopped next to him and realized it wasn't our friend. And jumped out to be murderous bandits. He survived the M107 and Mk48 fire, planted a satchel charge, and murdered us. That's okay, I guess, we accomplished our goal. After being shot at by so many people who have failed to ever land a single bullet it was probably the only way it was going to end. And I finally did get to blow something up with my Mk 48 today. We had a bus we didn't want, and I finally decided to just full auto it. The bus exploded. Now, we wait until Standalone.

you could start giving away stuff..and if you sometimes die you'll need your backup gear...don't hoard too much and don't have fear to use your vehicles and weapons..for example, when you are all together just say: ok guys i'm having a little tour with the atv,i don't know, i'll keep with me also that dmr and a couple of tank traps and you just go! if they say something to stop you you just go...so 1)you will have fun killing someone or helping some noob 2)you will die and they will come rescue you on the coast or you'll need some of your hoarded gear.

You don't own the vehicles in the game, they are for everyones use. If you can hide one and it is still there when you log back on then great, if not and someone takes it then that is just tough titty for you. If locking was implemented (which quite frankly is a stupid idea) then you would just get a load of people searching and finding every vehicle on the server and locking them all, would you like that?, every vehicle you try to 'liberate' belonging to someone else? No you would rage and most likely find a way to blow it up.

Since so many have asked me my opinion on DayZ, or they would have if I actually knew anyone. But at least all those youtube fanbois I would've had if I had been making movies, or the bloggfollowers I surely would've had by the thousands, had I bothered with bloggs. It is now time, thanks to my friends (If I had any), to do a wall of text. DarkRavens thoughts, rants & suggestions. 1. Character Creation. Basicly, what you do when you first start a game. a) Character customization. Change your face and basic looks, add to profile so that you can respawn the same after each death. Or make more than one look and switch between profiles. It doesn't have to be THE SIMS or anything advanced, even just chosing heads and gender as we do now would be enough I suppose. Still, if a game like EVE Online can bother making an advanced character creator when you barely ever see the toon. Why not add something similiar here? B) Pre-Zombie Background. Odear, this topic might be weird. What I mean is, what did your character do before the zombie invasion? Maybe have a few choices, again addable to your profile so you dont have to pick new everytime, such as police/farmer/driver/engineer. Add a few MINIMAL bonuses to things that fit your old profession. And a startkit for fresh spawns, nothing fancy. A few things such as these might look abit nerdish and roleplayish, still would add flavor and more realism. Nothing that would give you a class or be unachievable by other players. Just for the first day alive. 2. Servers. As of late alot of new pve servers have started appearing. As well as some roleplayers. This is basicly a survival game in a sandbox world, anything goes and everyones gamestyle should be accepted. That said. I hate pve'ers, more on why in my RANTS part further down. a) Pvp vs Pve. Easiest part would be to do like World of Warcraft, horrible I know. But to sepperate the PVE from the PVP servers. Rp can be done on either. It's extremely important to remove the PVE crowd from the PVP crowd IF we're to allow nonpvp servers. Why, you may ask. Simply because on a nonrisk server you can gear up easily and then head to a pvpserver to "pwn". Even though this is partly doable today with serverjumping to empty servers to gear up, it's not something that should not be promoted. B) Safezones, safestorage, insurance & extra lives. These are things that should never be allowed. Ever. They've ruined so many other games. Everything should be lootable, destroyable and everyone should be killable. And if possible I would even suggest skipping any sort of human npcs. 3. Skills. This is again something that might cause rage. BUT! I am not aiming for a mmobased skillsystem of fiftytwelve layers. I'm simply suggesting that everyone grow abit per day and from using things. Skills should of course be resetted when you get killed, making survival and teamwork essential. Simple skills. such as for example; #Cooking which increases as you cook food, not to create impressive boost & buffing foods but simply to make food more 'filling'. Canned foods being the basic with a base foodgain per consumed unit but the more you cook, the better your skill gets and the longer the food you cook keeps you full. #Driving, the further you've driven and increased your driving skill the less fuel you spend & the faster you can move your vehicle. #Shooting, makes the sights shake a wee bit less the more used you get to your weapon. #Stamina, the longer you've sprinter the more stamina you get and the faster you can run. This would make surviving long a goal. 4. Realism. Well, DayZ needs to be harder and more complex. In my humble opinion. a) Injuries. Taking Fallout as an example. Broken arms, legs makes it impossible to use some weapons or to aim. A headshot might cause a concussion which makes you read your compass wrong, blurry vision or even hallucinate. "Was that a real player moving or..?". Eating uncooked food might be a necessity when starving, but there's a chance you'll start throwing up. Try fighting whilst bent over puking. Colds & fever like we already have, maybe draining stamina making it impossible to run far. Everything should have a cure of course. Not instant though. B) Pks/Bandits vs Heroes. Well, this is a hot topic. Everyone loves to hate bandits and alot of the bandits declare that IN A REAL ZOMBIE APOC EVERYONE WOULD BE ASSHATS WHO KILLED ANYONE THEY SAW FOR FUN. I dont know if they would, I dont know if I would cause I cant picture anything as silly as this happening in real life. I do know that rioting and what not occur when there's no law, so who knows. That said. Different skins are not really a good way of showing this and there's really no good way of showing if a person is an asshat, if there were people wouldn't be getting tricked irl would they? Even so, maybe implementing EYECOLOR (Eyes are the mirror of the soul, and all that). Abit Supernatural style maybe, or Dune in a way, your eyes go darker and darker for every 'sin' you've commited 'till they're completely black. Same for heroes, but going white. Thus the only safe way to find out is using binoculars or snipersights. Nomore prewarnings due to skins. Also, whilst why not involve some sort of psychological effects from turning to the darkside? Paranoia, making your character see ghosts or what not. Twitches making accedentally firing guns happen, against all treatable of course. And similiar things for the heroes, making hurting innocents extremely punishing and what not. c) Death. Always permanent. Removing any skills you've gained, leaving everything you own on the corpse. 4. Loot. The things we want, just spread out over the land. Lootspawn timers are way to comfortable as they are and should be increased making only a few respawns a day, especially when it comes to highgrade areas such as current NEAF. Food & weapons are way to plentiful. a) Mechanical parts. A function I'd hope to see in the standalone would be the possibility to scavenge from existing vehicles, strip tires & parts from one working vehicle and put on another. Also wrecks ingame should be lootable, grab tires and parts from them instead of having parts spawn in sheds. As well as being able to drain fuel from vehicles back into jerry cans. Items would be the standard tires, engine parts, scrap metal, fuel tanks but add stuff such as car batteries (for powering up a spotlight or something such maybe?). Oh. And add Harleys as vehicles. Dirtbikes might be fun but not my thing. Add generators to electrify fences, walking dead style. B) Medical loot. Medicine, bloodbags, pills, needles and what not. Maybe add drugs as well with temporare positive effects but nasty sideeffects when they wear off and creates addictions. And so forth. c) Clothes. Maybe divide up the clothes to be chest, legs, hands, feet & head. Giving people the ability to somewhat modify their looks. Make sure to add trenchcoats, everyone loves black trenchcoats. d) Food. Canned food should be limited and only used as the most basic item, giving one unit of food but instead not grow bad. Whilst cooked food are superior, it would spoil with time. Making hunting and scavenging important again. Also, why not include beer and alcohol? Make it ruin your aim as a sideeffect, just add it. e) Weapons. I'm not a gun nut, so cant really go into details of which weapons should be added, removed or what not. But! Being able to use your knife should be added, as well as hitting zombies with your fists/kick them or at least shove them out of the way. Weapons could do with having attachments though, such as silencers and what not making you able to edit & customize your gun as you want it. Again, making survival more interesting than just randomly running around shooting stuff. And add some more melee weapons. I know swords seems silly but there's plenty of museums & collectors out there, and being able to slice & dice zombies with a katana/broadsword does seem like fun. Hunting bows would be nice as well. d) Bags & Storage. The bag system that's currently implemented is all good & fine, maybe start without any bags. Add belts though, making you able to carry only as much ammo & tools in your belt as it allows. 5. Personal thoughts. a) The Game. (You lost it). It's a game that wants to be hardcore, one of few games where a misstake can cost you everything. I love it. Starting over after having been killed for the twentieth time is just as fun. Less food and less ammo would give more of a survival feeling though. Maybe actually add the chance of getting the zombie desease, curable or at least held in check by some medication. Making hospital runs & trades important. B) Why I hate PVE. As asshatty as pvpers can be, just as whiny pve'ers can be. I would love to say that pure nonpvp servers would be a good thing. But they're not. A pve'er will never be satisfied and through the course of my 20+ year gamerlife they've ruined so many games that I feel nothing but hostility towards them. "NO RISK BUT MAXIMUM GAIN" seems to be their mantra and every limitation should be removed in their name. #"Better loot in a pvpzone cause of the risk? NOWAI THAT IS UNFAIR!" Games such as EVE Online and Ultima Online used to offer better rewards if you risked going into a pvpzone to get resources from there. Ultima Online folded but EVE Online is still holding onto their morals. #"Not being able to keep my stuff cause I die? NOWAI THAT IS UNFAIR!". Ultima Online was one of the first mmo's I played, if you got killed you lost everything. Untill pve'er started their war, first they introduced a pve only zone and then they forced insurance that meant you spent some gold to be able to keep your stuff after death. I have so many many many many many many many more examples of things like this, worldpvp from WoW, the whole fiasco called Guild Wars 2. Time after time, making a good & hardcore game into a carebear heaven. That is why if possible I would ban any pure safezone ideas if I could. c) Profanity & Harassment. After my open hatred towards the carebears this might be a strange thing coming from me. Still, let everyone play as they want. But give warnings & bans for harassment. Making fun of female players is just stupid, cursing or using profanity against people in general is just childish but also a crime in many parts of the world. At times gamers makes me feel ashamed for my hobby, especially many young gamers (Sorry for generalizing) doesn't seem to be able to take internet anonymiousity in a good way but start acting out. Read http://fatuglyorslutty.com/ as an example of how not to act. d) There is no cake. No matter how good a game is, how great an idea is or how splendid a dream might seem. Everything that can be abused will be abused. People will always have different opinions. Moment 22 is always active. This WAS the shortened version. TL:DR. Game good, make it harder.

You just cannot seem to settle in and have fun. This is where me and few friends decided to all chip and and rent a private hive, where we GUARANTEE no admin abuse. First of all thanks to the OP and special thanks to Hendrix's post, beans for the both of you. With the unveiing of the proposed player construction, and I am an electrician, this idea has definite potential. However perks/skills, looks way to hard to implement into the game and would lead to huge balancing issues. But in almost every zombie survival horror flic I have seen there is the inevitable line "What did you do before all this $#!+ went down?". My idea is in the ballpark on this topic and thought I would share. So it is just a decision in what you did before the ZA, however it does come with a single benefit the ability to use a certain tool, this should be easy enough to implement. And a whole forum thread could be started on it, and actual people with said proffessions could give input. I'll go first. Proffession: Electrician Tool: Digital multimeter Benefit: Maintenace of generators, for player owned bases with other possabilities electric fence?. Assuming they will degrade like proposed weapon degredation. Now you ask why do I need that. This is just a thought but for a player base to be a spawnpoint for your cabal/clan/coproration/guild some requirements have to be met ie: running water, plumber w tool electricity form working, carpenter with tool I think carpenters should also be able to make deerstands, heh. There is endless possibily and the playability has potential to. "Hey our generator broke down. I heard of a guy Mr. Mashpotatohead he used to be an electricain lets go kidnap him and get him to fix it." lawls. The idea here would not to give tactical advantages, mechanics would fix vehicles just as fast, but with their tool maybe they can make vehicles offroad by giving them a suspension?? This would need to be looked at a little closer, with developer interest and player involvement (forum posts on tools and proffessiosn). But so easy to implement and very intriging. I have played a lot of MMO's and pve does have it's place, in most cases to give you an edge up on pvp. -

This topic is for those who are in search of active, mature-enough players to play dayz maps. Little info on what we do. We make a group call in Skype, find a Vilayer server(only servers we play on), we find each other using vehicles/running/helicopters. After we get ready to hop to a more populated server to encounter more people who could be friendly or bandits. From there gentlemen whatever happens, happens. We do not joke around shooting each other, if you do so, you will be looked down upon, and if continued, will be killed and blocked from Skype. We encourage more players who are experienced, so finding each other won't be a hassle when dealing with new comers. Also if you have a really annoying kid voice, we will block you from the start. Typical regular maps we play on frequently: Chenarus, fullujah, lingor, namalsk, zargabad Requirements: 18+ must have Skype all maps downloaded or will be downloaded must live within 1-3 hour time zones from PST if you have any other questions feel free to send me a message on here or skype my skype username mdmiked

Sometimes vehicles make an engine revving sound or beep when you are near them. I think it's a position give-away mechanic.
