I don't count killing fresh spawns as Banditry. True banditry begins in the northern reaches. I'm the sort of patient hunter who'll scope out a position for several hours as long as I have the supplies to do so. You'd be surprised the things you see if you just stop and look around. I remember a few months ago I was sniping the hell out of Stary Sobor - mainly other would be snipers - for about five hours straight on this high cap server. I saw something like eight different vehicles pass through and at least forty different players. That said I only shot when I knew I could get away with it and nothing says "mission accomplished" then busting a bus with six people in it with the M107. -
My mostly stupid and probably repeated suggestions for DayZ standalone [Part 1]

So basically the thread title acts as a disclaimer. Most of these ideas are either really daft/unrealistic or have already been suggested a million times but I have tried to put my own spin on them where possible.If you are the kind of person who's brain can't deal with reading more than a couple of paragraphs of text or just like whining about stuff then probably best to stop reading now. For everyone else please read on and feel free to discuss/advise. Ok my first and probably most wordy thread will be some map location suggestions with various benefits and hazards associated with them. Power plants/factories/industrial zones. These kinds of places are great for finding various mechanical gubbins as well as being good camping spots (not so good for flying kites or retrieving lost frisbees as the 80's danger TV ads taught us). But currently they are usually pretty safe areas especially from Zeds. So I think some/all power plants should carry serious health risks. Gas escapage or even radiation poisoning should be common with the potential to get sick. Some areas could have explodable fuel tanks and also live wires with the threat of electrocution so the player would need to use extreme caution. To warn the player of danger could be nasty looking gas clouds, sparks and fires as well as big extreme danger signs all over the place. Old run down zoo Ok now you know this would be cool and a perfect way to introduce a few big scary predators that would normally be out of place in the surrounding terrain. Bear pits, deep pools, various (possibly lockable) cages and pens. A few animals would still remain, some you could eat and some that could eat you. I know you are picturing dragging an unconscious player into a bear pit or tiger pen...if not then you are now. Zeds that spawn here could also be in danger from the various hazards. Loot could include tranquilizer guns, chains, traps and all manner wild animal related stuff. Even with all the potential hazards this place would make an amazing base. Have tents with precious loot? Then what better way to put off potential bean thieves than a dirty great bear guarding them. Travelling circus Similar to the zoo with dangers but could introduce...clown zombies...yeah now we're talking. Plus a huge circus tent would be a great setting for an an epic battle between clans and you just know some idiot will try and do the high dive :D Quarry/Mine An actual big crater in the ground with associated dangers and vehicles. Explosives could spawn here and it could have mine shafts/tunnels/caves. A great place to hide out but would also be very dangerous. Could be either a quarry or mine or a bit of both. Full sized mall(s) Pretty self explanatory. If you have played Dead Rising then you know what to expect to find here (nowhere near as daft though). Highlights would include gun/ammo stores with some high quality guns, vehicles in the car park and frozen yoghurt. Most/all stores would be lootable though those that are not would have shutters up etc. Loot should also be spread out so lots of searching has to be done. Big lake(s) with islands As well as the benefit of fresh water there would also be some good potential hideouts on the islands. The islands could have small habitations etc, lots of edible wildlife (also some nasty ones), fixable boats, hell even a few jet skis for fun. The islands would be too far to swim without getting sick (a bit like Skalisty or whatever it's called). BIG mountain(s) Really really high up, snow on the top kinda shit. Would be steep and dangerous with a winding treacherous road and a few small habitations dotted about. I'm struggling to think of what could be found here to make the journey worthwhile but I'm sure if could have something good. Coastal cliffs with caves If you've seen The Lost Boys then you'll know exactly what I mean. If not then it's basically steep cliff with a cave or series of caves which would be a bit tricky to get to. Some maybe would only be accessible from the water so would require a boat or a lot of swimming. Would be most useful as a base but could also contain some good loot. -

It's fine I'll just run it from a scheduled task and a php script that way I can log output locally too and monitor what was deleted I was being dumb earlier :-) If anyone else wants to experiment you literally just need to place some of the weapons crates into the vehicles table with an inventory of your choice. Then use the dayz.st tool to place custom spawn points for the crate class names you have picked. I recommend looking at the min and max spawn amounts when adding them to vehicles. I'm Hoping to use RAND () for inventorys but I've yet to test. Only real problem I've had is accuracy of placement in the map tool that's why I'm going to modify the tool which uses the 3d editor to create my weapon crate spawns. -

I don't think it was. It was CPCgamings public Chernarus server. After the reboot with wiped out everything, I heard from other players that it was a complete reset. All vehicles and tents were gone. So CPC has a private hive and their own Mumble channel and I've been running around with some of those guys for a few days now. They said they don't really mess with that public hive server and will likely not keep it up. I'm having fun on the private server and have a car and some good gear. Life is good again.

As far as realism with vehicle parts goes - lifting a car engine or a chopper rotor assembly? Unless this guys Magnus Magnusson it isn't happening and he's not going to get more than a hundred yards with one even if he could lift it - he definitely ain't going to be sprinting with an engine tucked under his arm. Sudden thought: it would be pretty amusing and also realistic if you could push wheeled vehicles by hand, maybe requiring a minimum of two people to do it fro something bigger than an ATV - that would bring in a basic level of cooperation needed to get a badly damaged car repaired. Realism wise, from the state of the environment I always imagine that we're entering the game at least a six months after whatever catastrophe it was happened and in that scenario most vehicle batteries are likely to be flat. That means pushing cars to bump-start them. Think about it; your crack team of survivors desperately pushing their car out of Starry Sobor to get it running... how funny would that be - the panic of it, the ridiculousness of it - but actually far more realistic. Following that line through you might then bring in free-wheeling without the engine running, towing broken vehicles and the cooperation of two players to lift something really serious like an engine (and not being able to hold a gun at the same time). With those restraints/options in place there'd then be some strategic thought needed to decide how to go about repairing something like a broken engine - two of you creeping slowly through the woods with an engine between you, pushing the car/free-wheeling along a road to the place you've found your engine, or, risking involving another player to ask for a tow. All things which would greatly increase the risk of vehicle repair but, I think, also make the process a real challenge (past just tediously harvesting a warehouse for the right part) and, with the team aspect of it, pretty amusing. This is a slightly different topic but I think it's relevant to this line of thought: I'd take the one-shot kill sniper rifles out of the game altogether or make finding one one extremely unlikely. None of these slow-burn type developments are really going to be viable when one unseen guy a kilometer away can put a stop to everything in seconds. Personally, I think standing some chance to react to an enemy, rather than having a high possibility of instant death when entering an airfield (without even hearing a shot) would only increase the game's enjoyment, for the attacker also, it's stand-offs and real battles I remember, sniping or being sniped lacks any real satisfaction - and having a near certainty of finding a military sniper rifle after a few hours play seems to be a mile off the games hard-line concept.

no i put a few vehicles for supporting jobs like LAV ( the hq version, not the one with the bushmaster cannon ) but i dont need it, if every time i'am joining the server my lav getting ripped or something else. The same for my rescue helicopters....yeah yeah i know....someone can fake rescue request, but thats not my problem :) -

Hello folks, i've a question or better i need help. I run a dedicated dayz server with private hive and created over the missionfile a small admin base ( for the first, later i will create a few more safe zones for other players ) So i need help to set up a safe zone, so only certain players can move into it or their weapons getting removed after firing bullets against other players ( or redirected ). Perhaps it's even easier to make the vehicles available there only available to admins (I know something of domination maps, but I can not really find anything at the mission file) = admin vehicle lock I hope someone can help me. best regards snajdan -

Hello! We just fell into the 50% off DayZ server ad, and everything is running great, however I have a big question - Vilayer apparently has their own HIVE database, separate from the main HIVE and claims to have over 50% of the entire DayZ active playerbase on Vilayer servers. I'm not sure if we should remain on Vilayer's HIVE or transfer to the DayZ official HIVE. The DayZ HIVE apparently has almost no customization and if a hacker teleports all vehicles to him, it'll be difficult to reset the vehicles, and to ban the hacker. So what do you guys think? I'd obviously like players on my server, but which HIVE is better?

Yea that just sounds like a recipe for "the admin hacks he's got vehicles that only he can use" from players that don't understand how you did it. When those words get said people do leave a server. -
This is an awesome idea, adverse weather affects are definitely something that would especially be needed to worry about given the fall of civilization. Camps on the low ground swept away, vehicles parked on the coast or too low inland because putting them up high makes them too easy to see would be destroyed. It would also add another hazard to flying helicopters, if you're flying in a flood and you haven't fueled up before the flood happened and by some miracle your chopper wasn't destroyed in the flood, you either gotta look for jerry cans to juice it up or you gotta risk just leaving it until the flood recedes because if you crash land it in to water you're most certainly boned. Most of the fuel stations would be inaccessible I imagine as well. +1 to anything that makes boats more useful than just a way to get out to islands nobody goes to without losing your gear.

But having vehicles that are only available to admins? It's just my opinion and I'm sure you run a great server but if I found out the admins were doing this on my server then I'd be leaving. -
So earlier today my friends and I were playing around on the new Celle map. We found a stable server and messed around for a couple hours. We are bandits so we killed a couple people. Laughed my ass off when my buddy got killed by a guy with an axe. Anyway we got very geared, fixed two military off roads and hid two tents full of pretty nice weapons. Didn't find any NVG's or AS50's but our guns were all high tier. We were traveling back down to Celle (the town) and were stopped dead in our tracks to a server ban. This was due to NOTHING we had done. We were not warned or even addressed by the admin. This had nothing to do with our play style or banditry due to the fact we had been setting up tents and parking vehicles for the last 15 min. I would stay away from this server. The admins seem to blatantly abuse their power and ban anyone they feel is a threat. If your looking for a good Celle server keep on moving. I would love to hear from one of the admins. Oh and if they try to accuse us of hacking or exploiting and anything like that we have our entire time on the server recorded on twitch.tv at www.twitch.tv/jwill339

Awesome thanks man, I've got a lot of testing to do first but I will drop you guys an email when I get it all ready to go. Another question I noticed that if I use place vehicle to place a vehicle it also creates a spawn point for that vehicle. If I then remove the spawn point the vehicle itself is removed too. Is it not possible to place vehicles without creating spawns? -

Oh wow, Thanks IamIRUSH, those were some big and kind words and it feels awesome to hear that you like it on our server. And i agree with him, we need some more awesome player in there. Quick side server info that Rush don't know about: Hosted in UK, 50 slot server, TS3 server for users to use, 100 + Vehicles and custom buildings (Barracks in Balota and so on). And that's just the start, we will be customizing it even more, were just getting started and getting our bearings since it's our first Dayz Server ! -
Is there a way to unban the MH_6J without having the players download a custom version of the banned vehicles list?

I was on a server today with Side Chat and player death broadcasting enabled. Two guys randomly teamed up. They did all their communicating over side chan. They took out 7 guys; some of whom were also working together. You don't have to be in some big, fully geared, clan to compete.... just gotta be able to sneak around and aim well. Find a vehicle is a lot of fun; you should try that. I made it a personal objective of mine to find a vehicle, fix it, get some loot stocked in it, and hide it well. This has provided many hours of enjoyable gaming. I've lost several vehicles, found others, hid them well for a day or so, lost them again, found more, explored a lot of the map I'd never seen, found some of my first chopper crashes.... it's really been a whole new aspect of the game. That's what sandbox gaming is all about. We have these tools at our disposal. We have the freedom to do as we please. I chose to go fix up cars, drive them around, give people rides, find better loot, etc. etc. I made my own objectives and ultimately made my own fun experience. I didn't need some quest system, standard mission objectives, or other hard-coded features to lead me around by the nose in order to have fun. I hope the SA brings more things like this into the game world! -
We have recently gone whitelisted and have a good 20+ people on the whitelist. Friendly community, plenty of vehicles, vanilla DayZ, stats and leaderboards, you can check us out at http://dayz.vrocker-hosting.co.uk/forum/index.php As well as all that we are writing our own custom software to help run the server and we are the only server that has an IRC echo so you can chat to players in DayZ even when you're not in-game yourself.

ersan191 I have a question, now I have random spawns for my weapon crates containing gear would it be possible for you to run a timed SQL query on my database for me. I'll let you know the query it won't be anything intensive, I just want to delete the crate vehicles every couple of days so new ones with more loot can spawn, preferably before your vehicle spawn script does it's thing. To my knowledge there's not a way of doing this in phpmyadmin unless you think there is? I know I can do it myself daily but I like to automate things if I can :) -
The way jerry cans work doesn't make sense anyway. I'm fairly certain the final polish will, at the very least, add an animation. It's like filling a canteen from a tap - improbably fast. I'd like to see a pump and / or siphoning introduced. If only for the potential to steal the fuel out of other vehicles, or share fuel between them. OR, just park the vehicle you want to put fuel IN to, down hill a little bit. Let gravity do the work.
