  1. As far as realism with vehicle parts goes - lifting a car engine or a chopper rotor assembly? Unless this guys Magnus Magnusson it isn't happening and he's not going to get more than a hundred yards with one even if he could lift it - he definitely ain't going to be sprinting with an engine tucked under his arm. Sudden thought: it would be pretty amusing and also realistic if you could push wheeled vehicles by hand, maybe requiring a minimum of two people to do it fro something bigger than an ATV - that would bring in a basic level of cooperation needed to get a badly damaged car repaired. Realism wise, from the state of the environment I always imagine that we're entering the game at least a six months after whatever catastrophe it was happened and in that scenario most vehicle batteries are likely to be flat. That means pushing cars to bump-start them. Think about it; your crack team of survivors desperately pushing their car out of Starry Sobor to get it running... how funny would that be - the panic of it, the ridiculousness of it - but actually far more realistic. Following that line through you might then bring in free-wheeling without the engine running, towing broken vehicles and the cooperation of two players to lift something really serious like an engine (and not being able to hold a gun at the same time). With those restraints/options in place there'd then be some strategic thought needed to decide how to go about repairing something like a broken engine - two of you creeping slowly through the woods with an engine between you, pushing the car/free-wheeling along a road to the place you've found your engine, or, risking involving another player to ask for a tow. All things which would greatly increase the risk of vehicle repair but, I think, also make the process a real challenge (past just tediously harvesting a warehouse for the right part) and, with the team aspect of it, pretty amusing. This is a slightly different topic but I think it's relevant to this line of thought: I'd take the one-shot kill sniper rifles out of the game altogether or make finding one one extremely unlikely. None of these slow-burn type developments are really going to be viable when one unseen guy a kilometer away can put a stop to everything in seconds. Personally, I think standing some chance to react to an enemy, rather than having a high possibility of instant death when entering an airfield (without even hearing a shot) would only increase the game's enjoyment, for the attacker also, it's stand-offs and real battles I remember, sniping or being sniped lacks any real satisfaction - and having a near certainty of finding a military sniper rifle after a few hours play seems to be a mile off the games hard-line concept.
  2. no i put a few vehicles for supporting jobs like LAV ( the hq version, not the one with the bushmaster cannon ) but i dont need it, if every time i'am joining the server my lav getting ripped or something else. The same for my rescue helicopters....yeah yeah i know....someone can fake rescue request, but thats not my problem :)

  4. Yea that just sounds like a recipe for "the admin hacks he's got vehicles that only he can use" from players that don't understand how you did it. When those words get said people do leave a server.

We just fell into the 50% off DayZ server ad, and everything is running great, however I have a big question - Vilayer apparently has their own HIVE database, separate from the main HIVE and claims to have over 50% of the entire DayZ active playerbase on Vilayer servers. I'm not sure if we should remain on Vilayer's HIVE or transfer to the DayZ official HIVE. The DayZ HIVE apparently has almost no customization and if a hacker teleports all vehicles to him, it'll be difficult to reset the vehicles, and to ban the hacker. So what do you guys think? I'd obviously like players on my server, but which HIVE is better?
  6. I found some notes on a wiki for DayZ that said one pickup truck per server. Does that mean if someone finds it, takes it......and then leaves it someplace and is good at using it regularly so it never despawns...the pickup truck will never appear at the spawn points ? (until that person finally loses it ?) Thanks MrSpoon

    Weather - Flooding in Particular

    This is an awesome idea, adverse weather affects are definitely something that would especially be needed to worry about given the fall of civilization. Camps on the low ground swept away, vehicles parked on the coast or too low inland because putting them up high makes them too easy to see would be destroyed. It would also add another hazard to flying helicopters, if you're flying in a flood and you haven't fueled up before the flood happened and by some miracle your chopper wasn't destroyed in the flood, you either gotta look for jerry cans to juice it up or you gotta risk just leaving it until the flood recedes because if you crash land it in to water you're most certainly boned. Most of the fuel stations would be inaccessible I imagine as well. +1 to anything that makes boats more useful than just a way to get out to islands nobody goes to without losing your gear.
  8. But having vehicles that are only available to admins? It's just my opinion and I'm sure you run a great server but if I found out the admins were doing this on my server then I'd be leaving.
  9. no sign of any of the new stuff, i might have to wipe all vehicles and start a fresh (vehicle wise) for the new vehicle manager tool to start correctly.... we should have the biplane too
  10. Awesome thanks man, I've got a lot of testing to do first but I will drop you guys an email when I get it all ready to go. Another question I noticed that if I use place vehicle to place a vehicle it also creates a spawn point for that vehicle. If I then remove the spawn point the vehicle itself is removed too. Is it not possible to place vehicles without creating spawns?
  11. Hello folks, i've a question or better i need help. I run a dedicated dayz server with private hive and created over the missionfile a small admin base ( for the first, later i will create a few more safe zones for other players ) So i need help to set up a safe zone, so only certain players can move into it or their weapons getting removed after firing bullets against other players ( or redirected ). Perhaps it's even easier to make the vehicles available there only available to admins (I know something of domination maps, but I can not really find anything at the mission file) = admin vehicle lock I hope someone can help me. best regards snajdan
  12. I've read countless suggestion, which I do agree with, but people are going above and beyond, when suggesting items into the game. For example: Car damage/fixing: Have tool box (be able to pick different tools from the toolbox) Carburator, Door handler, piston, battery, radiator, fuel line, and much, much more Refueling with refuel pump, cord, etc. 3 types: diesel, jet fuel and gasoline Guns maintnance: Gun maintnance kit Cleaning oil cloth strip different weapon parts Really guys, can you imagine adding all of that stuff, you wont be able to have a proper working gun or car and you will have full backpack's all the time. Dont take me wrong, I love your ideas, but adding 50 items per idea, will make the game into: loot more, play less. In my, truly honest, suggestion. For most of these items, att a "general kit": Tool box - Will have everything for fixing any vehicles, placing/removing barb wire, etc, just like it is right now Gun Maintance Kit - Make it with a 3 use only, no need for oil, cloth etc. Fishing pole and bait - no need for different parts of a pole and baits Radios - yes radios to talk, but no need to have 5 types of radio. It's already hard to find tools, can you imagine you find an UHF radio and your friend has a VHF? Vehicles parts - There are already plenty and is pretty hard to fix one, as we relly on random spawn of those parts, maybe adding 1 or 2 more parts would be acceptable, but adding like 10 more parts, you wont make a car work in the first month of the game. Sorry, but I'm butthurt and this is my 2c
  13. Oh wow, Thanks IamIRUSH, those were some big and kind words and it feels awesome to hear that you like it on our server. And i agree with him, we need some more awesome player in there. Quick side server info that Rush don't know about: Hosted in UK, 50 slot server, TS3 server for users to use, 100 + Vehicles and custom buildings (Barracks in Balota and so on). And that's just the start, we will be customizing it even more, were just getting started and getting our bearings since it's our first Dayz Server !
  14. I was on a server today with Side Chat and player death broadcasting enabled. Two guys randomly teamed up. They did all their communicating over side chan. They took out 7 guys; some of whom were also working together. You don't have to be in some big, fully geared, clan to compete.... just gotta be able to sneak around and aim well. Find a vehicle is a lot of fun; you should try that. I made it a personal objective of mine to find a vehicle, fix it, get some loot stocked in it, and hide it well. This has provided many hours of enjoyable gaming. I've lost several vehicles, found others, hid them well for a day or so, lost them again, found more, explored a lot of the map I'd never seen, found some of my first chopper crashes.... it's really been a whole new aspect of the game. That's what sandbox gaming is all about. We have these tools at our disposal. We have the freedom to do as we please. I chose to go fix up cars, drive them around, give people rides, find better loot, etc. etc. I made my own objectives and ultimately made my own fun experience. I didn't need some quest system, standard mission objectives, or other hard-coded features to lead me around by the nose in order to have fun. I hope the SA brings more things like this into the game world!

    People looking for community

    We have recently gone whitelisted and have a good 20+ people on the whitelist. Friendly community, plenty of vehicles, vanilla DayZ, stats and leaderboards, you can check us out at http://dayz.vrocker-hosting.co.uk/forum/index.php As well as all that we are writing our own custom software to help run the server and we are the only server that has an IRC echo so you can chat to players in DayZ even when you're not in-game yourself.
  16. ersan191 I have a question, now I have random spawns for my weapon crates containing gear would it be possible for you to run a timed SQL query on my database for me. I'll let you know the query it won't be anything intensive, I just want to delete the crate vehicles every couple of days so new ones with more loot can spawn, preferably before your vehicle spawn script does it's thing. To my knowledge there's not a way of doing this in phpmyadmin unless you think there is? I know I can do it myself daily but I like to automate things if I can :)
  17. Hey i'm Noob at dayz recently a friend and i fixed a bus form the NW airfield and took it and stashed it along with all our stuff, got off the bus and logged off. Came back on and was on the coast with nothing liked i had died. Checked it was the same server and it was, im thinking its a private hive as i had joined others and my gear had not gone with me so just stuck to the same one. before we got our bus we were playing and got transported to the NW airfield, (im guessing by a hacker, i dunno) along with other players where i just logged out before everyone started shooting. came back a while later and everything was normal except there were boats on the run way,a bus and an ATV also the sky was on fire. left everything and logged out came back the next day all still there so we fixed the bus and drove it around for a couple of days all seeming fine. Came back and like i said i was on the coast. We had stashed our bus near where other things spawned and zombies so was pretty sure it was not outside the map or something. not trying to get my stuff back here cos i know i cant but i wanted to know if anyone one had any idea why this happened was the bus hacked in and thats why that disappeared but we wernt in the bus so why did we restart? any help would be great just so i dont do the same mistake again if i did one.   19. The way jerry cans work doesn't make sense anyway. I'm fairly certain the final polish will, at the very least, add an animation. It's like filling a canteen from a tap - improbably fast. I'd like to see a pump and / or siphoning introduced. If only for the potential to steal the fuel out of other vehicles, or share fuel between them. OR, just park the vehicle you want to put fuel IN to, down hill a little bit. Let gravity do the work.

    Airborne bandit...

    This took place on a private hive. So this all started when me and my buddy were driving towards cherno, where we noticed a bandit with a nice M4A1 SD camo. Knowing that smaller confrontation would be useless, we decide to pull over and take him down with my M16 ACOG. after looting his body and refueling my truck, i noticed a littlebird, sitting on the shore waiting to be ridden till the cows come home. I shit my pants running to it, loving the fact that all it required was some fuel, and a good pilot. After getting my buddy to run down to the nearest gas tank, we fly inland a bit to get a more stable refueling area. Once fully fueled, we decided to fly around looking for camps/hidden vehicles, when out of nowhere a Huey comes blazing around a mountain unloading its payload on us. Being scared shitless, i dropped below 30m, swerving between forest lines for over 10 minutes not being hit once; then as inevitable as it was we took a shot to the main rotor, needing to end this quick, i surprised my self by landing in 10x10m clearing and dropping off my friend, who thankfully had an as50. Being the bad ass he is, he took the heli down within seconds, and killed him shortly after. we waited it out a while to make sure there weren't 2. it looked all clear so i swooped in and got my teammate out of there. We later lost the heli while trying to teach my friend to fly..... moral of the story don't let new people fly helicopters.
  21. I've tried Vilayer and DayZ.st and found the latter to be much better. It has a great control panel, a live map which can be used to spawn vehicles, database access so you can spawn in vehicles and buildings,you can enable rMod by clicking a single button. Theres loads more features plus theres more added on a regular basis. All in all a great provider.
  22. Here's my final review on the service I received from this "company" taken from another thread but I thought I'd post it here for SEO purposes it pretty much covers everything. SS before you have a go at me for bashing your company on a forum like you have done to everyone else to bad mouth you. I will remind you that this is a public forum for people to post their opinions if you disagree with them then try constructing an argument with evidence as to why they are wrong. Or you could just terminate that persons contract.... My first period of downtime occurred Wednesday, November 7th, 2012 around 11 AM (I also had two days of downtime whilst they were setting the server up), the server was dead completely with no TCAdmin response. Here's the reply from SS 2 days later So he never even bothers to tell me why the host was completely down for two days. His comment about DayZTools refers to the fact I had also let them know my server had never managed to successfully spawn vehicles using the script we were being charged $5 a month for. His response was not true the tool was still not "fixed" and still did not spawn vehicles without erroring on the chernarus db, and so the tickets continued. Eventually one week later to the original support ticket I was told this The tool was indeed now finally managing to spawn vehicles however we still suffered the exact problems DayZGeneration has posted about. Vehicles would spawn fully repaired when defined not to and would automatically repair when in use. Much of this is due to SS' inability to deploy bliss and dayz updates in a timely manner. Then of course there's the update they tried to deploy 2 days ago now, they finally did this over a week after all the other server hosts "so they could do it without any bugs". Read through the thread to see if they managed that, I wouldn't be surprised if they broke every single private hive server in the process. I have records of all my support tickets if anyone actually thinks I was saying anything that was offensive or untrue to them. My forum posts are available for all to see in their thread. I never implied I deserved to be treated any differently to anyone else, I did however let them know we were all being treated like crap. So they cancelled my service for complaining, well thats not technically true they did nothing to my account it still all works (I had terminated payment but service was contracted to continue till the 4th). What I think they have actually done is decided not to fix my server because they don't like me telling the truth about them in a public forum. All my login details still work fine I just can't do anything with the server in TCAdmin because it wont fully load, just like it was after applying the patch. Their one man team of admins has so many hundreds of servers which he has now broken he doesn't have the time to fix mine after I've been telling others of the quality of his service and because I have already terminated my contract. I didn't see one post in their thread from a private owner who actually managed to deploy the 1.7.4.4 update without breaking his server. Should the server remain in this state until the 4th of December that will make the total number of days they managed to provide a server I could even connect to 20 out of the 30 I paid for. The server was out of date and virtually unplayable due to all the bugs from out of date bliss and dayz code and non functioning admin tools for all of those days. This companies "tools" consist of a simple webpage which just runs a few database queries (most of which other providers offer for free). Their "map" tool is just an out of date copy of BlissAdmin which again doesn't fully function. I urge anyone who gets given one of their inevitable $5 off your next month vouchers to save your time and stress and move to another host. You can see the track record for these guys in their thread, I'll let you decide if you think I was treated fairly.

Fuel/Vehicles: Vehicles are more common Parts are very rare Scrap and junk can be used to patch up vehicles, but this deteriorates and may make the vehicle worse Fuel can be siphoned from cars Fuel can be poured from jerry cans into fuel tanks Fuel tanks have a limited amount of fuel Fuel tanks regain fuel at 1L/hr (or 1 jerry can every 20hrs) Fuel tanks can be destroyed/repaired and can leak if damaged Fuel tanks can be built with bases Add new part: electronics. Used for aircraft and "nice" vehicles but are very rare Storage: Crates Safes Buried caches Bear-bags Different size tents Weapons: All weapons more rare Handguns much much more common than rifles Civilian guns: Rifles/shotguns in homes/deerstands Handguns in homes Ammo in stores, homes, and stands [*]US/EU weapons only from heli crashes [*]"nice" eastern weapons from MilitarySpecial spawns, MilitarySpecial includes ATCs as well as barracks [*]standard eastern weapons from other military spawns Sound: Pick a sound mod, use it. JSRS is nice. The sound in Arma2 is sadly sub-par.

  25. thats just the number of rows phpmyadmin is showing by default The number of vehicles SS only let you change in the shitty tool they charge $5 a month for (which never works properly) also the instance_vehicle table is the one listing all the vehicles you have in game, just in case you were in vehicle or world_vehicle
