  1. I was in no way implying that your server was shit and/or nothing is being done about hackers. I wanted this information to get to the right people as soon as it happened and this was the only place I felt I would have a chance at that. I greatly appreciate your efforts to stop/ban hackers. It was not my intention to come accross as a dick either. It had just taken us a long time to acquire the items we had acquired and I came here venting our frustration about the event that had taken place. As far as ghosting, sure as shit I admitted I ghosted my friends body. I don't DC from a server if being attacked. I don't DC if killed by legitimate circumstances. But when a bus spawns in the middle of the woods and 4 people get out killing my buddy on sight, then call me what you will but I'm not willing to give my equipment to any hacker as a freebe because he decides to teleport around the map finding survivors to rape. Totality of the circumstances consisting of Miss Frizzles magical teleporting school bus and the death squad students might hint at a possible hacker. Hence my reasoning for ghosting my buddy's corpse. That is all.

    My Ideal DayZ

    Here is a list of my wants, hopes, and desires for DayZ. I understand many have been iterated, but I'll not leave them off of list simply because someone else agrees. 1. Better hacker controls: Nuff said. 2. Gear/Backpack Controls: I understand the current limitations. In my mind the ideal inventory screen would have the following components... "On Person": a short list of items that you have on hand, similar to the out of bag screen that exists now. They are easy to get to and equip/unequip. Rather than going into you inventory screen to use these items, make them more hot key based. EX: If I have an epi-pen in my #1 slot, then when I press 1, I will holster my pistol, take out the epi-pen and can then click on my buddy or myself to use it. I'm fine with this taking 3-5 seconds or what have you rather than being an un-immersive insta-switch. "In pockets": These are things that are passively used, such as magazines. They do not require hotkey priority and do not require a special action to use properly. "In bag": While I think that you should not have to crouch to access the bag, I'm fine with a time consuming animation to do so - one should not be able to quickly store/retrive items not readily on their person, but doing so while prone should be allowed. I think that weight and size should be regulated as well and could be balanced to allow more versitility in your equipment, but keeping it within a realistic realm. EX: My "In pockets" space might have 10, single cell slots; useful for mags, matches, a map, but not something I'm able to tote a rifle around in. In my bag, however, If I want to carry 2 rifles and carry a third in my hand, that should be fine - certainly possible, despite the lack of space for a ton of delicious, tasty beans. 3. Harvesting and Environment interaction: Hunting was a neat addition, but I'd like to see it go further. Picking berries, harvesting firewood, "usable wood", and brush (later two I discuss more below) could all be used. 4. Construction Options: With new materials available, and all the materials already spawning in the game, there is a lot of untapped, minecraft-y fun to be had. Tents are not the only way to cache gear and with all the deer stands well marked as loot drops they can't really be used as the firing platforms that were intended. Just a few examples with near endless possibility, I've put in game materials/objects in italics: Underground Cache: You can use the entrenching tool to dig a shallow hole (say 5 inventory slots) and cover it with brush to store small items such as food, water, or sidearms. Hunting Blind: With an axe, a survivor can harvest some cut wood and brush from the forest and create a camoflaged firing position. Towers: There are various types of towers, ranging in durability and quality from simple deer stand (simple, small wooden platform in a tree), to a wooden tower (wooden watch towers that make up the deer stands as we know them in DayZ) to military grade towers built from industrial materials rather than naturally harvested material. Essentially, have a menu of buildings that have a tool/component list, and build times. Components can be added all at once or in groups/individually. It could be broken down into phases, displayed by mousing over the building (perhaps requiring a close inspection versus sweeping the cursor over it from across the field. Using the examples from above: Underground Cache: Phase 1 - Dig. Time: 20 seconds. Requires: Entrenching Tool. Phase 2 - Conceal. Time: 10 seconds. Requires: 1 x Brush. Hunting Blind: Phase 1 - Frame. Time: 30 seconds. Requires: 4 x Rope, 2 x Cut Wood. Phase 2 - Conceal. Time: 20 Seconds. Requires: 3 x Brush. Deerstand: Phase 1 - Ladder. Time: 20 seconds. Requires: 8 x Rope OR 8 x Nail. Phase 2 - Stand. Time: 20 seconds. Requires: 1 x Small Lumber, 2 x Nail, Hammer. Phase 3 - Conceal. Time 20 Seconds. Requires: 2 x Brush Military Tower: Phase 1 - Ladder. Time: 20 seconds. Requires: 4 x Scrap Metal, Welding Torch. Phase 2 - Stand. Time 60 seconds Requires: 6 x Sheet Metal, 4 x Scrap Metal, Welding Torch. Phase 3 - Conceal. Time 45 seconds. Requires: 2 x paint, Paintbrush. Certain phases may or may not be needed for use, though. One could use a military tower without it having camofalged paint on it, or the ladder going up a tree to a not-yet-built deerstand could just go up a tree with nothing at the top. 5. Server Hopping- Legit Disconnect versus alt-F4 puss-bags. When the "Abort Mission" is used or someother form of user disconnect, the character should remain frozen in place for 30 seconds. This ensures that it can only be done safely if the character themselves is safe. If you do it after aggroing every zom in Cherno or mid-firefight, your character is going to end up dead, as well they should. "But 00dlez!" you cry, "I have a terrible internet connection that drops out, what if it does so while I'm winning a fight or while in the middle of sneaking through zombie zone! I shouldn't be penalized!" And right you are! Any loss of connection will immediately despawn a character. "Whats to stop sissys from just pulling the cord to server hop, then?" Nothing that I can think of... But only allowing the player to rejoin the same server they disconnected from for 5 minutes will stop folks from jumping from server to server looking for better loot drops or ghosting behind players/out of a hostile area. 6. Character Classes- I do not want a full blown RPG, but some differentiation would be nice. Given the rate of death, I don't think it should take long to level up. By the same token, I don't think having a leveled up character should replace any significant amount of skill. A better player will be a better player regardless of level, but the perks might give you an edge in an otherwise even fight. Each class will have several ability trees to advance down, each step with a given XP cost. XP is gained by acomplishing tasks, which could be different (with some overlap) depending on the class of a character. I would suggest keeping the number of classes minimal, perhaps 5 or fewer. Here are two brief examples - The Bandit Class and The Survivor Class: Bandits gain XP mainly through PvP activities, such as scoring hits on other players, killing other players, looting other players bodies, looting military buildings, etc. Their advancable skill could include things like SLIGHTLY increased damage, SLIGHTLY increased chance of their shots breaking bones and a little extra blood. Survivors gain XP mainly through PvE activities such as harvesting supplies from the woods (see above), killing zombies, and looting residential and farm buildings. Advanvaceable skills could be things like reduced chance of zombie detection, Increased time inbetween needing food/water or improved harvesting skills (see above, more berries, x2 wood harvested, etc.) 7. Buildings/Loot spawns: Make looting more difficult. Starting with nothing on the coast sucks, but the ability to respawn and regear within an hour cheapens the life of your character. If it was a struggle to get your gear, you might think twice about camping the NWAF and fighting everyone who comes by. Along that line, make loot spawns more variable. If only a handful specific buildings in the entire game world spawn high grade military equipment, folks naturally camp them, farm them, and have little incentive to snipe/camp, raid barracks, return to snipe spot and repeat. To use the NWAF as an example, if say, the pair of hangers across the runway were to spawn the good equipment, and the barracks at the SW end the next respawn, and the northern barracks the next spawn (with the other tier drops likewise rotating) it will make prediction and camping harder and a little less reliable, but still just as valid and playable. I think that is all for now, this list may grow/be edited in the future. If you read all that, I salute you (please don't shoot me), but without comments it was just a waste of time. Let me know what you think!
  3. I know that issues with hackers/dupers/ghosting and all the standard stuff are being addressed and I have no complaints on any of those. I was just wondering if its possible to restart everyone from square one, wipe all tents/vehicles on all servers. In its current state, I can die, and within 15 mins be totally geared up with any gun in the game, coyote, gillie, food/water bottles thanks to all the camp sites Ive found on many different servers since they just refill and dupe with ever server restart. I have satchel bombed many sites using their own satchels, and next day its all there again with exact same gear. Since this is guaranteed to happen down the road anyway, I can't imagine to many people having issues with this, even clans who spent time collecting duping items) Also, I would love to see a name trail on each item, to see which survivors carried said weapon. I killed a guy in Cherno, took his AS50 and wondered "How many hands has this weapon changed" No bitching, just suggesting. I'll roll with this game in any state.

    Spider, he might have a server based on some of his other threads. In this thread he did not let his true admin abuses slip until later posts. This guy admits in this thread and others (checked his profile to see if he let the server name slip so I could report for blacklisting) that he is a textbook cheater. He openly admits to every form of admin abuse (locking servers, shutting down server when not on, server restarts to keep his precious carebear loot), he admits to being a dirty duper, and openly admits to server hoping and ghosting other players. Essentially he represents everything wrong with this game and his epic douchebaggery will go down in Dayz history as the moron who sucks so much at this game that he needs to cheat.

    You are an idiot if you think server hoping and ghosting are "playstyles." Both of those represent cheating, what Rocket was talking about was spying, banditry, groups, survivors, meta gaming, and other legitimate game styles that are not founded on exploiting a mechanic. While I think snipers camping new spawns is incredibly cheap (when I spawn nearby due to spawn bug I always take a look at sniper spots and will shoot anyone I see sniping), it is also very cheap to server hop to get sniper kills. Sure the person you kill lacks honor, but now so do you so I am unsure who is worse.

    Hey Shredergenetix first off i'd like to say thanks for that awesome shootout in Elektro the other day, the most fun we've had in ages :) really enjoyed it so it's a shame you feel like you don't want to come back :( secondly, i can say for sure that one of those AS50's was on a body of someone i sniped, can't remember the name of the person sadly but one of our guys did pick it up as its not illegal to use it if found. I believe after i had left more people logged in with them and were also killed and as i love the AS50 i was given one as a present, however i dumped it before i even used it, didn't like the scope i like seeing my prey properly ;) personally i don't see why people feel the need to spawn these weapons in, all i can say is if it was done on our server Faz would have banned them straight away but there was nothing in the logs so he couldn't do anything sadly. back to my origional point it's a shame you feel like you won't come back cuz that shootout was awesome fun :D and respct to you and your guys for not alt f4'ing and ghosting, a true gunfight the way it's meant to happen :)

    i play on a private hive 100% of the time. the reason behind this: people using too much hacks on regular servers. the private hive i play on is the exact same thing as a regular hive, vehicles weapons and all. the only reason we use a private hive is because if we had a regular server we'd have to jump through hoops to ban a cheater that we caught. now, if we catch you, you just get banned. if you get reported we look into the logs and go from there. no bogus regulations telling us how to run our server. noone in our community scripts anything, as far as we know (im not the admin but im close friends with him). i dont see why its so frowned upon, its more fun to me than the actual servers, there are bandits, there are friendly's, and we have a good little community. no hacks, no bogus clan running everything, just DayZ the way i believe it was meant to be played. also private hive's prevent: alt+f4 (at least the usefulness of it, you cant connect to a different server and run away), "ghosting" behind someone in a firefight moving gear around servers to "free-farm" we play private but were more legit than most regular-server users.
  9. hahaha... Take control of The airstrip? Stary sobor and the likes? We had the airstrip locked down for 4+hours with our clan, nobody entered or left it without us knowing. And that was not an empty server, and we have gotten into multiple gunfights there. People just lack moral, and honor when it comes to gun fights that can turn out diffrently than when they entered. Simply because the ALT+F4 issue and ghosting around on diffrent server's is still there. Doesn't matter if they are 400 or 4000people, no server will be able to hold more than 100 of them at max, and if they manage to get in on a server and fill it up with 100 of they're own people.. What are they gonna do? Play around alone for a few hours until they get bored? I don't fear a coalition or any of the sorts. They can bring whatever they want, we will spot them before they see us in any case or scenario. So im looking forward to meeting them. It will bring some much needed action emphasis back, atleast for me. just my opinion, take it or leave it. -Zantiago

So I stumbled onto a player tent base right next to Podoba Dam (yes very original) and after receiving fracture and being insta-killed from and unknown source that was not detectable by the server admin in logs, my sole mission has been to destroy this base, repeatedly. It is not that large of a base hardly a tent city, six tents in all, some empty and others full of top tier duped gear. The base is encircled in dozens of sandbags surrounded by hedgehogs surrounded by wire fencing. It is not made to be entered on this server. In the center of the ring is an empty patch just perfect for ghosting into from another server to gear up and go player killing I would imagine. I have driven over the wire and removed the other obstacles. I have trashed all the gear from the tents and saved them many multiples of times. I have driven over the tents with their contents still inside. It seems no matter what I attempt the tents are back everyday after the server restarts. This is my burden to bear, however I would like to suggest that serious thought be given to revamping a system that allows for this to happen. I am personally a fan of the idea of binding everything to server: characters, gear, tents, vehicles, and every other game asset you can think of. This might not only help to curb the current issues of death dodging, ghosting, and loot hopping, but also help to develop a greater sense of community and competition on servers in my opinion. In any case I would like to see removable and destructible items in game that are presently server bound that are intended to be removable and destructible continue to be removed and destroyed after a server restarts.
  13. ghosting is a cheap way to play the game, but it isn't bannable (yet). rocket has said that the only bannable offenses are using abusive language or racism.
  14. Now Todd, you realize there are about 700 servers for this game that are online 24/7, right? Well now you know. You claim all you do is join in because of nighttime or other bogus but when you know the location of our camp, run to it in another server, then join ours so you are right in the middle, its called ghosting, or as I call it, cheating. I believe as proud, legitimate, and active community members of DayZ we have an obligation to rid this fantastic game of cheaters. If you disagree then please, refute my statement. I won't continue on about how messed up our server is, or how much we have been trying to fix it, since this has already been said. Instead, I will use a quote your parents may have told you sometime in your life. "There are plenty of other fish in the sea..." This means, since you clearly have issues with our server (more notably, that you were banned for cheating), you can just go to another. That's the beauty of this game. You can't be banned from every server out there (unless of course you use hacks). So, I politely ask that you stop complaining because you got caught red-handed, and just go about your day with a new server. It will be exciting for you; it will give you something productive to do.     I support OP 100%. This mod is in a state of perma-incompletion as it's intended state can never be reached - hence the locked down standalone on the way. So at this point all bets are off, maybe people should stop seeing these unfixable exploits as a bad thing and should start treating them as features. Embrace ghosting, pretend it's a built-in game mechanic allowing you to teleport via other dimensions, pretend it's Portal, whatever. This mod is afterall a sandbox. I thought they idea of a sandbox was that there were no rules and you play with the mechanics which are available? Well let them use the mechanics to have fun, they will anyway no matter how much you QQ.

  18. Okay, cots (like the one in the link below) should be the only way to save a players position. With out you "sleeping" on the cot when you log out you will find your self spawned on the coast

    You told Morbid you were 100% legit. We have log evidence of you ghosting. I don't understand where the confusion lies? Ghosting is a bannable offense on this game. You consistently claim that we restart our servers to save stuff, when I have pointed out several reasons why server resets happen. You said you would take a post down that you made erroneously claiming we were cheaters after we explained to you that we did a server update. You did not do that either. Imagine how frustrating it would be if you had a chopper, in 100% health, and no matter how many times you saved it, when the server reset, everything you just did to the chopper is gone and it's back at the respawn point. Now, imagine that frustration, coupled with the fact that people blame you for this issue. It'd suck, wouldn't it? Instead, you come and post here about how we're 'cheating', even after we sit and talk with you in game, and LET YOU blow up our camp. A number of us SAT BACK and let you blow up the camp, even after we explained this to you. The server reset, and the camp was back. And you once again blamed us for cheating. I am done with this. You've been rude to us, we've tried to give you multiple chances, we have logged you cheating, and that is that. Like I said, I hope you feel like your fraps footage exonerates you, and clears the ban. We're pretty confident that the logs justify the ban, but there are always two sides to every story. If you feel that someone else was cheating, I suggest you record it, and turn them in for it. Ghosting is not acceptable.

    1. This 'Ghosting' is actually you logging out without gear at the shore, then you logging back in inside our base with satchel charges, destroying everything in less than 5 minutes. It has been logged, so say what you will. 2. You can make any claims about duped or hacked items. None of us do this. So, again, if you have proof, by all means, present it in a ban appeal. I have no problem with you coming up with a legit grievance. If this game remains legit, I think it'd be 10X as fun as with all of the garbage we have currently in the game. We know of lots of camps where there are duped items, and we have requested from HFB several times to have a flat reset of our server, to remove ALL tents, and ALL duped items. They have turned us down each time. At any rate: We have the proof we need and was asked from us to ban you. That's the current plan.

    Ghosting is pretty weak, and how you got 10 satchel charges is beyond me. Either you've been cycling the barracks for months, duped or found duped satchels, or spawned them in. Bragging about it is debatably more weak, and why the hell were you using an L85 for CQC? However, you did at least place the satchels yourself. I'd be interested to know if the sniper shooting at you got you or if you ran or logged.

    1. when you reset your server your server the cars i stole from you did not return to where they were. you then reset the server again and they went back to where they were. 2. this "ghosting" is me closing arma 2 the fix the gfx glitch caused all the barbed wire around your base. 3. you have duped items in your tents. no one has close to 30 satchel charges lying around as well as tons of RGO frag grenades 4. you have hacked items in your base. PP19 not SD. you also had a bunch of RGO frag grenades spawned on the ground

    dogact, I was one of the people there on the island when you were there. For the record, I had a blast. You did not kill me, you killed two people, and almost killed a third. If you were in the ghillie, I had you in my sights, then saw your buddy, decided not to fire(I wasn't sure I could take you both), and followed you both for a while until you disappeared(Now I know you DC'd). A couple things I would like to note: 1. The camps on that island were placed there with painstaking trips from that stupid slow boat. It's very annoying. They are all legit. 2. The server reset during it's normal scheduled reset. This happened at 4pm EST. Before the server reset, the two members you killed made their way back to the island. They made their way to their bodies, but then when the server reset, they were missing their items, which was another adventure. We got gear, patched up our 3rd buddy you almost killed, and headed to the chopper spawn. We repaired the chopper from the stuff we had in the tents, and took off. Our leak in our gas tank was rough, so we went to go gas up in Three vallies. We started taking fire, but our gas tank was low, so I told our pilot we had about 30 seconds to land the bird. He hung in the air too long, and about 40 feet from the ground, we ran out of gas, and crashed the chopper. I survived with 47 blood after I finished bandaging. So, for for the record, we did not cheat or anything along those lines. We had an amazing time on the island, it was full of intensity that I rarely get anymore in the game. We lost that chopper fair and square, and I logged off shortly thereafter, to deal with some stuff IRL. What took place after we left: HFB servers have sent out a letter indicating they were re-adding some features they had taken out some time ago due to server instability. About an hour after I left, the server connection was at yellow for more than 20 minutes, and no one could access tents, items, or vehicles. One of our admins reset the server and reverted the version to avoid this from happening again. Our server(And others? I don't know) has a bug right now where nothing saves. Vehicles return back to where they were after every reset, tents wont save items in them unless a brand new tent is placed down. Anything destroyed before a reset returns to its original spot after reset. So it's pretty frustrating right now. This certainly isn't something we've done by design; I think it's plaguing the entire community. If that makes you feel any better, cool. I had a great time stalking you yesterday. If it doesn't make you feel any better or you're suspect, I'm sorry. It's the truth of the matter, and there isn't much more I can say. As for ww THE TODD ww: You have been logged ghosting on our server. This is unacceptable behavior, and against the spirit of the game. You may accuse us of resetting our servers blah blah, but you don't see the messages from HFB or the problems the server has in general. Attack us, kill us, steal our shit; all of that is well and good. Cheat when you do it, and it's lame. As soon as a server admin comes on, you will likely be banned. We gave you a chance after we suspected you of cheating, and you decided to do so again.

    I would have to agree that this would fall into the 'ghosting' category but at the same time Ive heard about US 1040 and their banning and suspected map hacking. These people are not normal players and therefore do not deserve fair rules. Good job
