Ghosting is ghosting. Unless your like me. In which case when you get bored of your character you go into Chernose (The giant city near Eleckro that I don't know how to spell) on a low pop server, then server hop onto a hi pop server, then proceed to run around Cherno while singing over direct chat and seeing how long you can live.

It will keep happening as long as you keep switching servers. Looking for a green ping Getting kicked from one server by Battleye and trying another all legit reasons but the system thinks you are just ghosting for loot or trying to flank noobs -
I have thought about this myself a lot and I tend to think it would be better if you had a new character on every Server. Firstly this would of course stop the server hopping and ghosting issues but that's not the main reason I like the idea. Instead, what I think this would do is create a more beliveable and consistant world where you are more or less 'forced' to play on one particular Server. This in turn makes people become regulars on certain servers, which creates a consistant community where players will survive together or against each other. While you cannot just simply join an empty server gear up and head over to a full server and start the killing, hop to the next to find more unexpecting victims, you will be forced to deal with the people on that server and they have to deal with you. Eventually word might even spread around about that one bandit, making him infamous among survivors. Some might even team up to hunt him others flock to his cause and become bandits. I know this is kind of a romanticised vision of what DayZ could be like but, I think this is what DayZ should be like. This though, in my opinion, would only work with some sort of 'official' servers that would have to be well maintained and a much larger map as well as player number. Also for the sake of not being 'stuck' on one server there could be an option to transfer your character to another server with a limited amount of transfers within a certain period of time, for example once every 24 hours. Just my two cents.

Server Hopping: The act of logging out of one server and into another one for the purposes of: Checking a loot spawn location again (used for rare ones mainly) also when sitting in a nice sniping spot in, say, Electro to check and see if there are any players about to shoot at. Ghosting: During a fire fight, server hopping to reposition to a more advantageous spot against your opponent. Example: A team is holed up in an apartment building, covering all the exits. You log into another server, walk into the apartment building into the room the enemy sniper is in, and log back into the original server and shoot him from behind. This relies on the fact that when you log in, you are in the exact same location The solution to this, if it can be implemented is pretty simple. If you log out in any area that spawns loot/zombies, when you log in it is in the wilderness in a random location and distance from where you logged. (the specific numbers would have to be tested ofc) If you log out in the wilderness, when you log in it is in a random distance and location from your logout point. Ideas?

I have to say that playing on this server now for a while and admins and community are good. Always some admin on to respond and teamspeak to add to bandit/survivor experience. Couple of clans on server duking it out also adds to flavor. Server is worth a look at if looking for somewhere with a decent high population but with no ghosting and limited scripters. -
I'm just wondering what you guys would think if in standalone, or even in the next mod version, every server was made into a private hive. All of your gear stays with you on that server. I made this thread so of course I support it. No server hopping, ghosting, switching to day servers when night comes. I already only play on private hive servers anyway. What do you guys think?

Ok, stephen here. First of all I never once said anything about using an auto-wheel fix. Feel free to prove me wrong with a screen shot here? I do remember Chris saying to me though that he messed up the wheel on his motorcycle -- To which I replied hmm ok let's go check the factory, but upon getting on his motorcycle to assess the damage the wheel fixed itself. A facet of your server, not something that I was doing externally. (again, feel free to prove me wrong with some actual evidence) As for the discussion of 'ghosting' this is a blatant lie. I did however say to Chris that I got surrounded by zombies, and logged out not to die. The admin then told me this was against the rules, i apologized and he said not to do it again. Finally for the bus shootout, the guy who charged me in a bus -- he was an easy kill with the as50 because your server supports crosshairs. As for the two of you hiding in trees, i had the as50 with the thermal scope, which i'm pretty sure I found on your server, so those were also easy kills. Another point that i'd like to bring up is when you first banned me you only cited aim-bot. (would we of taken 30 minutes to shoot you out of the huey with an aimbot?) After this post, you've gone back and added the claim that I created an auto wheel fix. Your reply, was nothing but a few petty lies, backed up by literally no evidence. Rocket himself said people won't be banned for using hacked in weapons, only for creating them. So show me some logs here, or un-ban me. Simple as that Oh, and for un-banning purposes I have now changed my name to "KreaYshawn" if that makes a difference :) -

I believe Chris you were banned by association and for that I do apologies and will immediately remove your ban. Losing the chopper was not a big deal, its Dayz, that stuff happens and we are not afraid of putting in the time to get another. The issue is that your friend Stephen was seen in Direct chat stating that he was going to use an "Auto wheel Fix" for a vehicle he was interacting with. He was also seen discussing his use of "Ghosting" so that he could avoid harm. The final straw for him was that we went back to the location of the bus shootout and looking back to how he killed us, its impossible for him to do what he did without assistance. In fact the two of us who jumped out of the truck where still hidden behind the trees when we miraculously got shot. However we are still in the process of looking through the logs for evidence of the third ordeal. Though we still believe his first two actions are still worth a temp ban and I would be glad to update you once/if we do find such evidence. We did not show any abuse of admin power when we were shot down like I said it's Dayz things happen and I know there are other admins who would have the server reset button standing by in such an event. We are only trying to keep our server as hacker free as possible even if it is a futile process. Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or concerns. -

With a private hive, your character will not save to other servers. You will be forced to play on my server if you want to play the same character you create on my server. Server is Passworded for extra protection to keep scripters and hackers away. Some advantages to this are: No server hopping/ghosting. Local bans to cheaters/scripters without the need to justify on the DayZ forums. More vehicles! I've added plenty of vehicles to share including four helicopters for some nice air battles or just wanting to try flying. Vehicles and Tents save! Thats right. Inventories, locations, you name it, it saves. Four choppers, 3 SUV, and about 50 other vehicles to find and use! If a vehicle is deemed out of bounds/is destroyed on a server restart, the vehicle will be reset back to its original spawn point or its latest location were you saved it. Less lag/desync as the hive is local to my server and not being flooded by thousands of servers. Server Specs: CPU: 8x 2.2 GHz RAM: 8GB DDR2 HDD: 600 GB Timezone: GMT +1 So come try it out. It will be up 24/7. It will be fast loading with minimal lag. Okay, I am totally with you on the ghosting problem, but why do you care about server hopping for loot? Personally, I think it's stupid since it breaks the immersion for me, but I don't see why you're so against it. How does that hurt anyone? -
TRB are clan of combat logging ghosting losers. They also suck and cannot aim for shit, three of em jumped me and a mate and they all had ghillies with M4A1 CCO SDs, when we shot back they logged like the cowards they are but Al Capone's fingers are too fat and prevented him aborting the game fast enough.

What is the point of a private server?

I'm hoping my host starts offering this option soon. While private hives don't ward off hackers, they do defeat a couple of issues that I feel completely ruin a server experience. 1) Ghosting 2) Gear Migration Ghosting sucks cause nothings more annoying that putting a lot of time into creating a defensible base only to have an assault force log in INSIDE it with absolutely no warning. Thats not realistic, nor does it even take any skill. Gear migration sucks cause you can open a completely fresh DayZ server right now and in two days you'll have duper camps popping up on it where people are basically moving their gear from their previous server to yours then duping it all 20 times over and thus there is no scarcity of supply in regards to anything. With a private hive you don't really have to worry about either. Though while duping can still be an issue (not as big an issue though as private hives can have far faster save state response times and can be much harder to dupe on because of it) no one can carry an AS50 from somewhere else to your server, and then dupe it 20 times and arm half your server with AS50's. And the fact that people can't ghost into your defensive positions actually sort of makes the game as it was intended to be played, people can actually try to survive on a private hive. And if you want someones stuff you have to fight them for it, you can't just ghost in and raid their tents while they're away or offline. So overall, while private hives are not more secure from hackers, they do remove two elements of the public Hive DayZ version that I feel are some of the largest problems with DayZ outside of hackers. I will definitely be disconnecting from the public Hive as soon as my host finds a way to do so without getting all their IP's blacklisted for doing it. -

yes 100% and the dead soldiers on floor if it causes glitches. Besides people who placed barbed wire usually use ghosting on other servers to bypass them in building. -
I like the idea, at the very least just for the idea that zombie spawns should be toned down as more zombies are killed in a given area. Right now it's impossible to approach any situation with a sweep and clear attitude. Even a lone barn in the woods, if you go in all guns blazing to mop up the few zombies present to begin with, more keep phantomly coming. It makes no sense! Clearing an area (to an extent) should be an option. However, I think long term settlements and decreased zombie spawn rates in said settlements would be a rare thing to see. Other than the ghosting and other problems you'd have currently, it's often just not interesting enough to settle down for a long period of time in one place, especially up North. ... Though, maybe when combined with the underground bunker idea though, that could change

Right now they offer no real interactions (zombies ignore it), produces no bleeding, they are too common, protect nothing since ghosting is so common and is commonly used just for griefing (since they use only one slot). I say take them out now, and when they can be a real addition to the gameplay mechanics, bring them back in full glory. -
My friend was playing minecraft and he said that he was going to sleep, I was in DayZ and thought "why not?". So here it is : Players when disconnect should : -Equip a heating blanket so they don't get cold when night arrives -Choose a safe location to disconnect to not get killed/looted, his body will keep for 5-10 minutes in the disconnected area. -When connected to another server, will take about 3-5 minutes to wake up, but if a loud noise (3 -4 bars of noise) is made, the player automatically wake up Benefits -Add more realism/intense to the game -PvP disconnects would be way less eficient, because they would go to sleep in front of the player that is trying to kill, and the body sleeping would keep in the server until joined another. -Ghosting should be less efficient, player should take 3 - 5 minutes to wake up depending if he used or not the heating blanket and if he is inside a building ( inside a building should add +2 minutes to wake up, if blanket being used -1 minute to wake up) Edited for balancing Feel free to discuss this suggestion and try to make it even better! what's to be busted for? lol i posted huge long stories in our forums about all the activity in our server around solnichny on 9/5/2012. we definitely had hackers in at that time, and cowardly combat loggers and ghosters. but PCGN stands for high moral values and has a brotherhood mentality in its community. despite the hacking and other douchebaggery, i had an aboslute blast in all the chaos that night. it's just sad that instead of joining our community, chatting with us, enjoying the brotherhood they instead resort to combat logging and ghosting bullshit to finally kill me. Im looking at you bubs and dorvits.... PCGN does and will not hack. We are very active in the pc gaming community and have hacking experts within our ranks to weed them out and ban them. Our server goes down every day to enforce hacking bans, and our admins are tirelessly researching new hacks and anti-hacking measures and combing our logs. the foolish are the ones who come here instead of to us. let this be a trend setter! -
Vilayer advertised feature timezone changer broken

Vilayer support is INCREDIBLE. I don't know any other server hosts that will sit down and talk to you themselves. I've gotten to talk to Lee over voice SEVERAL times. Their servers are stable and virtually Lag free. The problems that do arise are dealt with relatively quickly, and at least for me have been communicated efficiently. And on top of all of this he is working on fixing what the DayZ Dev's broke. Tents and Vehicles have been working, load times are near instantaneous, my server is full every night. 1.7.2.6 as far as the official hive is concerned for me is too little too late. BOTH US 450 and US 2740 are going down at the end of the month as I am no longer paying for servers I can't properly admin. Run with a AS50 TWS on my server and get caught you get warned, then banned. I have played with the weapon myself, 900m shots through the fog when another regular AS50 cant even see past the 600 mark, nothing even close to fair about that. Ghosting and get caught? Banned. That shit is not cool. But this isn't the point of the thread. The point is that I am VERY happy with Vilayer, I am seriously considering upgrading from a managed DayZPackage server to a dedicated box so I can run a Lingor and Chernarus, and a Takistan when they have it ready to go. -

Should Barbed Wire (and/or Tank Traps and Sand bags) be removed? As they are right now? Yes If you could fix them so that if zeds tried to pass through Barbed Wire they get hurt and could die, and Tanks traps and sand bags would STOP them... then No leave them. As they are right now, they only stop players from being able to try and get to safety to try and defend themselves from the zeds. They are nice to try and make forts, but when people ghosting to other servers, not much use then :( -

I can see someone ghosting to the lighthouse or at the water around the back. Having someone as a lookout at the lighthouse is a good idea but they'd be the first dead against a sniper. -

You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature, including but not limited to ghosting, unverified cheating, duping and similar, UNLESS you have solid evidence, IE logs. -

Yes, my PDW that I don't use on people is breaking the game. Not server nuking, not bugs, not broken tents, not ghosting, not x y or z problem. It's me running around with a small (Not at all overpowered) trophy. And if I get banned from a server, then I won't rant on the forums, I'll go to another one where the admin isn't a dickhead who doesn't read the rules. If I REALLY wanted to have an advantage, I could have had some seriously overpowered shit by now, but I didn't take it. Why? Because it's an unfair advantage. My PDW-SD is giving me little to no advantage. Quit crying and get over it. It's a video game for christ sake, if you want to whine over what you think is an injustice, go fix something that actually affects people in the real world. You are the reason that there are so many hacked weapons in the system, and with the duping bugs things only get worse. So just man up, delete the weapon and continue playing legit. Think about it, if gives you an unfair advantage over other players and on some servers is globally ban-able. Man up, put that weapon on a zombie body and then hide it, you'll be doing yourself and everyone else a favour. " Actually, it's not global-bannable, Rocket has stated as such. And again, it's a fucking PDW-SD that offers little to no advantage. Get. The. Fuck. Over. It. and stop hijacking my thread. -
I think the StandAlone and the mod need to prevent players from Spawning in within say 100 meters of a player structure. I have sat for hours now and watched as players from other servers have spawned in prone in front of a tent in our base, grabbed stuff and instantly logged out to take the loot back to their own server, it completely nullifies the use of basic defensive like wire, sandbags and tank traps. If a player spawns in and the game detects a tent or player structure within 100 meters it should push the players spawn in point out of the 100 meter area, this will prevent players from ghosting into camps, and prevent them from ghosting past wire and tank traps. It's crazy having an item in the game thats totally redundant when all you need to do is hop server run 5 feet hop back and bingo your on the other side of a defensive wall that might have taken a player days to complete.
