  3. I'm not writing this to cry about hacking. The current state of the game and community has encouraged me to stop playing for a while, and this is just an observation I have made that I think would benefit the future of the game. I don't need to tell you about the hacking problem. If you've played the game for more than a week, and have refrained from using scripts yourself, you already know how bad it is. I've already read everyone public statement Rocket about the game at least twice, so I understand where editing the engine and/or replacing BattleEye with an anti-cheat system that actually works would cost more in labor than what it is worth to the developers. It's a business, I understand, and that's not my beef. With anti-cheat measures about as effective as a 50lb bouncer, there has been a huge influx of "QQ Hacker" threads scattered throughout this site's various forums. This is a natural response from a dissatisfied customer, but I feel that the way the threads are being handled by staff is further contributing to the problem. When an obviously new player hits the forums to let you guys know how unhappy he or she is with the developers efforts to stop scripting, they are met with the standard response, "This has been addressed, we can't and aren't going to do anything about it, we promise that when you pay us for the standalone version we will fix everything, and thread locked. As a prior professional forum moderator and eventually administrator (professional as in I got paid to do it), I completely understand the need to "clean up" the forums to prevent 15 threads on the front page all discussing the same thing, but very few of the threads I'm seeing are open discussions as much as an outright complaint directed towards the development team. Why is this a big deal? 1) Scripting, and the excessive rare loot still circulating in the game's "item economy" has made the game unplayable for a lot of people. If you've been able to be one of the lucky ones that have played for 500 hours and never ran into a hacker (I call bullshit on this one), you must at least agree that loot balance is totally screwed up thanks to AS50 Thermals being about as easy to find as a Lee Enfield. 2) The problem is serious enough that the company, as well as personal pages from developers (like twitter) are getting bombed with feedback about it. When your customer base gets desperate for progress and is met with, "we can't do anything about it," that player quickly loses his faith in the company. With the massively over-hyped blockbuster titles of the last couple years turning out to be taking steps backwards in the realm of game development, creativity, customer support, and game code integrity, customers are getting extremely skittish about throwing their hard earned money at games that don't show support above and beyond the trash gamers have been subjected to by larger companies. Long story short, I believe that the standard response of your hands being tied is making people think that the standalone will be a slightly more polished version of what we have already, and only that. It appears that the biggest priorities for the community is scripting and game breaking bugs (tent/vehicle saving, artifacting, humanity glitches causing skin changes in the middle of a firefight, etc.). These are also the two issues that the devs have dropped the ball on the hardest, with hackers being apparently impossible to minimize, and patches designed to fix bugs that ultimately make them worse. When I got the news that DayZ was going standalone, the first thing I wanted to know was where could I preorder it, but with the way things have been handled as I stated above, I'm going to give the game a long time to be property reviewed by the community before I make the decision to purchase. I'm terrified that this is going to be another Diablo 3. I recognize that this post would be pointless without suggestions on how to fix it, so here we go. 1) Make a sticky post in general discussion for people to bitch about hacking. I recognize this can be a bad business idea, because new players doing research on the game will be immediately greeted with a "we have a hacking problem" billboard, but it's still far better than telling a complaining customer that you can't do anything about it. You can still lock random QQ threads, but your customers will appreciate a link to the appropriate are to post as opposed to telling them to learn how to use the search function and leaving them to their own devices. 2) Take the leash off the server admins and let them do their jobs. They are literally the only thing standing between the legitimate players and scripters, especially when our anti-cheat system feels like armor made out of wet toilet paper. The basis of proof for a Rocket sanctioned ban is rediculous and unwarranted in a game so plagued with cheaters. 3) Encourage private hives. These are the last servers left that have any reasonable control over their servers and what goes down on them. Private hives can utilize more extensive anti-cheat measures and deal with hacking nearly immediately. It seems like a lot of private hives are run by clans as well, and the general in game community problems are much less sporadic. 4) Shut down the public hive, thus forcing players to private hives until the standalone. It ties into #3, and it also eliminates the threat of ghosting, server hopping snipers, server hopping loot/vehicle campers, and gearing up on a totally empty server just to switch to a high pop server with gear you wouldn't have been able to get nearly as easily with other players in the server. This also means that servers that have inactive admin will be plagued with scripted items, but servers that are run by decent admin won't have to worry about someone going on X unmonitored server to spawn all their shit in, and then switch to the monitored server. If you can't move character saves between servers, the hackers on server X won't affect the gameplay of people on server Y, meaning that a handful of hackers can't ruin every server on the queue list at their leisure. 5) If you are going to focus on the standalone, consider shutting down DayZ support all together. This is an alpha, and while you guys use it for game testing, the community uses it to get a good idea of what they are about to spend money on. If you quietly abandon the mod, players are going to get a horrible experience while testing and never consider buying the game (Battlefield 3 anyone?). Don't cut your nose off to spite your face. All of these solutions are far better than any efforts I've seen so far on the dev teams part, but don't take that as me suggesting that you guys aren't concerned. I want to see DayZ succeed, but there is some sort of collapse going on right now. The rewards for cheating right now greatly outnumber the risks, and when the community's complaints are met with a shrug of the shoulders, we either give in and start scripting, or lose faith in your ability to control your game, and just move on to something else. You guys develop PC games, and coming from a guy who starting gaming long before consoles even imagine being connected to the internet, that's a big deal. For that very reason, I have much higher expectations from you than the crooks over at Activision/EA/etc, and I always will for developers that focus on the PC platform. Rethink your approach to dealing with the community to better inspire hope for an awesome standalone, as opposed to making us think that you guys don't care, don't know what you're doing, or have better things to do. Please take my suggestions into consideration, and thank you for your time. RaysGoodLiquor TL;DR: just respond with TL;DR and move on. Edit: It's 3am here and I don't have any juice left to fix my grammatical/spelling errors. If you can't read it, let me know and I'll revise it tomorrow.

    How to stop Ghosting.

Rocket have said in the interview that this will(maybe)be implemented to standalone. with this the 30second logout timer would make game much better when reducing serverhopping, altf4, ghosting..
  5. Denalb US1 Chicago (v1.7.2.5/build 96061) [Private Hive|Veteran|CH:ON|3DP:ON] Only Daytime - Hosted by Denalb With all of the craziness that 1.7.2.5 and scripting has brought, I want to give everyone a second option. I created a 50 player server using a private hive for anyone to play on. Remember, with a private hive, your character will not save to other servers. You will be forced to play on my server if you want to play the same character you create on my server. Some advantages to this are: No server hopping/ghosting. Local bans to cheaters/scripters without the need to justify on the DayZ forums. Always Daytime so nightvision goggles/gamma aren't required for US players who play at night. More vehicles! I've added plenty of vehicles to share including two helicopters for some nice air battles. Vehicles and Tents save! Thats right. Inventories, locations, you name it, it saves. Two choppers, 1 SUV, and about 50 other vehicles to find and use! I created new random spawns for most vehicles. If a vehicle is deemed out of bounds/is destroyed on a server restart, the vehicle will be reset back to its original spawn point. Less lag/desync as the hive is local to my server and not being flooded by thousands of servers. New spawn locations on the east coast to help newcomers explore the northeast part of the map. Moved the southwest spawns further east to help new spawns get to the major cities without running for 45 minutes. *Future Update*Out of bounds prevention. Players/Vehicles will die/explode when crossing over to out of bounds. This will also help those who may spawn out there. *Possible Update in the Future* Alt+F4 prevention. If I see enough requests for it, I am also willing to modifiy your starting equipment if it isn't outrageous. (I was thinking about giving players some food/water and a hatchet). I may also provide a teamspeak server if I get enough requests for it. So come try it out. It will be up 24/7. It will be fast loading with minimal lag. I will also be able to admin it a lot better due to some extra protection I have installed for script kiddies and hackers. Denalb US1 Chicago (v1.7.2.5/build 96061) [Private Hive|Veteran|CH:ON|3DP:ON] Only Daytime - Hosted by Denalb I've made a twitter account and a gtalk account so you can contact me if needed. I will also post updates to the server status/upgrades. Twitter: @DenalbHive GTalk: [email protected] E-mail: [email protected] Feel free to contacts me with questions/issues/comments.

    How to stop Ghosting.

noo that's called ghosting, teleporting is what those script chodes use to teleport to players and kill them or tents/cars whatever.

    Cherno LOCKED DOWN!

If someone failed at ghosting then thats bad, its not even hard. could easily steam roll you guys.
  8. Its really simple. If you leave your server and join another one, you cannot join the first server for 5 minutes. You may join another server ofcouse, but you still have to wait 5 mins before joining your previous again. Ofcourse you can leave your server, and rejoin it again without having to wait 5 minutes at all. In case you didnt know, ghosting is when you spot someone or someone spots you, and you leave the server. Then you join another server and run to their location or a vantage point. Once you've reached the location you leave the server and join the first one again and kill them.

    Cherno LOCKED DOWN!

    what is ghosting??
  10. Ghosting is when you leave a server, move to your new position, then log back into the original server
  11. Now let me start off by saying I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW HOW TO GHOST. All I'm asking is, what exactly is it in DayZ? I know in League of Legends or Dota2 it involves watching a live stream of the game you're playing if you just happen to be playing against a streamer. Which would basically give you a maphack. Now the reason I'm asking is because I always see people complaining about ghosting and I believe me and my two friends have been a victim of it. We were in electro walking around and someone shoots my friend and he goes unconscious. I start following him while my other friend epipens my other friend. I watch this guy run directly into the church. I am positive of it. So I keep an eye on the exit and wait for my friends. We all rush in and look all around and he is not in there, not between the aisles, corners, nothing. I'm also positive he ever left the Church. After a few seconds standing there thinking he alt f4'd, we here "don't move" followed by us getting killed by a full auto ak (I think, possibly some machine gun) to the backside of us. He kills two of us and my friend attempts to run from the church but doesn't make it. There is no way he left the church and we checked everywhere. So I was just wondering if this was ghosting in DayZ? And also what ghosting is roughly in DayZ. Thank you!

    Geographic Servers

If servers remained community owned you could allow same region cross world travel to eliminate the issue with servers being down, this would not eliminate hopping/ghosting though. This why I would prefer corporate servers because these considerations would not reduce scope.

To the Owners of US 2037

The words uttered by anyone who's shot an Enfield in town ring true for this thread: "Well, that escalated quickly." While the server kill can't be put on anyone, as that's not an admin permission (thank the bean god). The fact that the admins have gone and confirmed that it was one of them who was killed (Thanks for that, it was hard to pick a side till you guys opened your mouths), speaks for itself. There may not be a lot of concrete evidence, but what we have is a man, shooting one guy, who's been confirmed by the admins to be either one of them, or a friend, while the other Alt-F4's (Funny they forgot to mention that when they were whining about ghosting). then immediately a succession of kicks by said admins are issued, and not just one or two hackers, a large selection of players are booted, ( I've not bothered to count how many.) After, Butcher ghosts the server for some payback. Normally I'd say shame on him, but considering how pissed I'd be if some Alt-F4'er kicked me, I can call it forgiveable (Besides, he makes hilarious videos, and just might top Sacriel for being my favourite DayZ youtuber). He kills one guy, who can easily be assumed to be in league with the admins as he did not loot the tents, but instead drove in a patrol. and considerable amount of time passes before the server wide kill happens, lending doubt to it being an admin, as if it were them, it would have likely happened when the ATV guy was shot. In conclusion: First encounter: One dead, one Alt-F4, immediate kicks from admins, who've confirmed that it was indeed them who were attacked. evidence may be coincidental, but it is pretty convincing. Ghosting: Strike against Butcher, but forgiveable due to circumstances Second Encounter: Most likely admin, no repercussions Server Kill: Length time from last encounter lends doubt to it being an admins revenge, instead, probably chance hacker, unconfirmed. All in all, my beans are in with Butcher.
  14. Then go log in at a place you would normally consider safe to log out in, make your way to the barracks, loot them and go back; that way you will expose yourself to the risk everyone else has to expose themselves to. A normal person does not log out inside the barracks unless there is a clear intention to abuse the mechanic upon logging back in. It's pretty damn clear what the guy's intention is, banning morons who log in the barracks, breeze through and log out while completely avoiding the risk of ever having to go outside the building. I'ts not exactly cool for someone who plays on the server regularly to spend 30 minutes running and being denied loot without a fighting chance. As an admin, I wouldn't hesitate to ban for certain types of server-hopping, alt-f4ing, ghosting and other ridiculous shit as long as some proof was available. If it results in being blacklisted, then so be it, which is precisely what stops me from hosting my own server.
  15. this sounds like a good idea and a load of fun. I would suggest that Elektro is a HUGE nut to try to crack staright off though. One of the smaller cities would be a good place to start and get your tactics worked out. I would suggest that where ever you do take over, lay barbed wire in the most common sniper points if possible. This will stop the server hoppers from ghosting in as there is a good chance that they will spawn right on top of the jaggy stuff and I believe that this really does put a damper on your day. And try to herd the zeds with tank traps and sand bags. this could also be a good tactic when you have blind spots or want to protect a particularly vital area.

    Parallel Universe Travel Suggestions

I like anything that deals with ghosting and hopping, but I see a couple issues with your mechanic. I would also like to see a more elaborate solution based on travel as it wouldnt allow players to escape at all. How long before people know where all spawn positions in or near cities or locations are at? How long before these are simply camped to hell by people? People will also be able to abuse this to fast travel, get closer to city b, log onto other server be in city b.

    Server hopping.

OP do you mean server hopping or ghosting? answer #2 seems to refer to ghosting not server hopping

    Server Hopping

Your second example is called "ghosting." edit - for spelling like a dumbass.
  20. Strategos (DayZ)

    Server hopping.

Server hopping is a contentious issue. It's really nice to be able to change servers at will, but it creates all kinds of problems, Ghosting being the primary issue, server hopping for loot farming, vehicles and sniper killing noobs being other issues. I wonder if the cons outweigh the pros on this one and thought it might be interesting to see what everyone else thinks about how it should be handled in the standalone. So vote and discuss.

New Locations or Buildings for Standalone

I can understand instanced bases to prevent ghosting, but as far as locations/other buildings go i am sure this isnt on the cards. Now i am not too sure due to geographic reasons but coming across a huge mansion could be fun. I remember seeing the mansion in Fallout 3 Point Lookout and thinking it was pretty creepy and cool. How about an offshore oil rig, miles out to see, but visible on the horizon? Its been mentioned before but the same could be done with an aircraft carrier.

    US 303 - Question

Clan SM is very fitting as you are a sack muncher. No where in that list does it say using a hacked gun is an exploit. "You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature, including but not limited to ghosting, unverified cheating, duping and similar, UNLESS you have solid evidence, IE logs." I wasn't disrupting your server, ghosting, cheating, or duping. I wasn't being racist. The fact is AS50 or TWS I would have killed all 8 of the guys I spotted (none of them were in the woods, they were all rolling in cherno and on top of double blue you can spot everyone except for the people in the woods). Since you want to run your Stupid Mouth, why don't we move this thread to the proper thread and see how long your server lasts?
  23. ---------------

    US 303 - Question

I hope you get your server pulled because you are not following the rules that are in place... If you are found breaking the following rules, your server will more than likely be suspended at most server providers and if it's not suspended it will result in the entire ip range being BLACKLISTED by DayZ support staff. 1. Your server must follow the DayZ name convention. DayZ - Location ID (version/beta buildnr) [difficulty][timezone] dayzmod.com - hosted by Customtext.2. Your server slots must be 40 slots minimum. Please also note no server provider is allowed to provide servers below 40 slots. However there is an exception for developing countries or countries where bandwidth is expensive, for those countries minimum slot count is now 30.3. You must not edit your server files in anyway, this includes: Mission file to enable side chat. Modified Hive files.4. Your server must not be password protected or locked. BEC connection flood #lock is allowed but must be set to no more then five minutes. Servers may also be locked briefly before scheduled restarts, again, this may not exceed five minutes.5. Your server must have BattlEye = 1; set within the server.cfg. (as of 1.7.2.4 the hive will not allow you to play if this is set to 0).6. Your server must have reportingIP = "arma2oapc.master.gamespy.com"; set within your server.cfg. 7. Your server must have requiredBuild = replace with newest beta build; set within your config file. 8. Your server must have verifySignature = 2; set within your config file. 9. Your server must have kickDuplicate = 1; set within your config file. 10. All server problems must be reported to http://support.dayzmod.com. 11. As a server admin you must not: You are not permitted to ban players for killing yourself or clan members. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when your killed. You are not permitted to shutdown your server when you lose a vehicle. You are not permitted to kick or ban for smacktalk. You are not permitted to ban for suspected cheats or exploits of a non-server-disruptive nature, including but not limited to ghosting, unverified cheating, duping and similar, UNLESS you have solid evidence, IE logs.12. You are permitted to kick or ban for hate speech, including racism and homophobia. All kick or ban actions must be reported in the forums under section http://dayzmod.com/f...heat-reporting/13. You are permitted to kick or ban for ongoing severe hacking that is affecting players in a server-disruptive way. All kick or ban actions must be reported in the forums under section http://dayzmod.com/f...heat-reporting/14. PVP is enabled at all times no matter the rpg element the admin tries to set. 15. Do NOT request un-necessary instance IDs, location IDs, or whitelisting from us. If you abuse the system all of your servers may be blacklisted. NO MATTER WHAT ANYONE SAYS OR WHAT SERVICE PROVIDER YOUR WITH THESE ARE THE RULES PLEASE ABIDE BY THEM. Where does it say you can ban for having a co called hacked Weapon....
  24. robciviccrx

    Anybody have a G36C SD?

lol how many server have actually been blacklisted ? Admins post on here for banning for ghosting combat logging and all sorts of things, we keep the server clean of crap that isnt in the game, have fun on your scripted anything server.
  25. Warped_Jack

    character bound per server?

You can still get admin abuse in the current system y'know. None of the current servers are maintained by BI in any way except guidelines, and a blacklist for reported servers. Reported by players, whom this has happened to. Just avoid them. Also, if by new server you mean "changing server at all" then I'm leaning towards quite liking your idea. It'd be annoying in many ways, but better than creating an outright new character on a new hive, while also stopping the ghosting problem. BUT also does screw immersion a bit. At least a new hive == new character, rather than your current character waking up on the coast, geared up, with no memory of how they got there. However if by new server you meant "one you haven't visited before" then wouldn't that allow people to ping between 2 servers they frequent, saving their location on each and progressively hopping the entire map? And I'm lost as to where this shit storm is. Erm. This also already happens. Some servers are running the Lingor Island map, on a private hive. First, the items are the same. Second, even if they were different, everyone on the server still has access to those items. There's no unfair advantage here, so what's the problem? At the moment, a map change also leads to a new database being used for characters anyway, so characters don't cross over between maps (as far as I'm aware).
