When I purchased DayZ I stuck to no PvP servers so I didn't get the caution reflex. Well I've been on regular servers recently. I found a UAZ and I have to say having a vehicle is not really worth it. You're extremely obvious and getting out to loot or something is extremely suspenseful. The only benefit is gear space and faster traveling. What's your opinion on vehicles?

The SS is recruiting experienced or exceptional players to join our ranks. We are an active squad of elite soldiers that can handle any situation calmly and effectively. We are a respectable squad. We do not loot, pillage, or kill survivors/heroes on sight. Bandits will be asked to turn the lower their weapon, turn the other direction, drop their weapon on the ground, lay down, and roll to the side away from their weapon. Instructions will be given to new players, and if all of these steps are not acceptably complied with, we will open fire. We will only kill hostiles, trespassers, intruders, infiltrators, and bandits. Unresponsive players are also an exception. Unknown or unidentified soldiers must lower their weapons before approach or they will be shot. When firing at survivors or unresponsive soldiers, we will always attempt to knock out our target. If that succeeds, a medic will tend to the soldier and retrieve them in an air vehicle (to avoid escape from vehicle without lethal consequences). The killing of unarmed survivors will lead to removal from the squad and elimination of killer(s). We often set up a trading post for non-clanmembers in any server we are currently stationed in. Right now server has 2 choppers spawning per week and 45 vehicles, as the pop goes up we'll keep raising the number of vehicles. Right now we only get about 8 or so regulars coming on, we'd like to see alot more :) -

Been playing on your server for the last 2 weeks but it seems new vehicles aren't spawning, also downed choppers (we have driven all around the map). Bit of a problem because I love flying choppers haha -

There's a difference between censoring and 'Everyone is an immature idiot who paints genitals onto their vehicles'. The latter would really break immersion for me.

Why should it be locked down just because it's "becoming a game" though? Do you want the game to be equal across the globe? That can (and is) already happening. You have the official DayZ servers and you have the private hives. The official servers are almost helpless to the many varieties of cheaters out there. The private hives can have whitelists which filters out most cheaters because they are only after a quick rampage on a server they can easily access. Then, private hives will cater to the many kinds of players that exist out there. Some like low vehicle count servers, having a vehicle becomes so much more special to them and those that don't have a vehicle will hunt those that have or leave the server because they are fed up with walking. And there are those servers that have plenty of vehicles, some to the point of absurdity, which ensures nobody will have to walk from point A to point B very often. There are servers that reduce the amount of zombies to save on performance for both the server and the clients. There are servers that have limited view distance so players with low end PC's can compete too. While all of this can be turned into settings server side you will quickly find that there are several orders of magnitude more that the players may or may not want to have in the game. If it wasn't for the open nature of DayZ we wouldn't have Namalsk and all the other maps as alternatives thus far. We wouldn't have a few of the features that are part of DayZ today without customization. On that note and relevant to this topic. Battlefield 1942 was mod-able. It spawned the Desert Combat mod and without that mod, Battlefield 2 would not have become the success it was, we might not have seen any more battlefield games at all. Interest in that type of game might not have been as high and ArmA 2 might not have become what it is today. Lack of interest in the title may have kept Rocket from making DayZ and we wouldn't be sitting here talking about this to begin with... Mods are a very important part of a title, especially one that is independent and doesn't have a huge flock of blind sheep that will line up at the store as long as the title contains anything like "Call of Duty" or "Battlefield" or has a Blizzard logo on it etc etc. All of these games thrived on the success of mods made for them, then they turned their backs on the core community and started releasing "just another game". Mark my words... One day these kind of titles will be doomed to failure and their developers will have no idea why. But titles like Minecraft, ArmA 3 and others like it... Games that allow modifications and customization from the community will thrive as more and more gamers want THEIR game and not something some ill informed game designer decides to make. Not saying Dean "Rocket" Hall is ill informed but eventually, he too will fall prey to making bad decisions whose counter complaints drown in the day to day rambles of the community. A decision that will destroy the title in the long run. -
this is a message to all private hive owners. if you look in the clan/group recruitment forum, i am currently setting up a nice sized bandit clan. alas, i am looking for a good privat hive server that could do us well. if you need bandits around, post below. i would prefer if it was not whitelisted though, and i kinda want the settings the same, no added vehicles or anything, i still want the challenge. i would also love a good day time server as well. and hopefully your staff is good with script kiddies, i do not like them around. thanks!

The most important question is "what can you expect as of now from our server?" We're a pretty new community consisting of a friendly bunch of 8-9 players with a mostly non-hostile behavior as of now. We're running some very vanillaesque settings as of now apart from mostly ready-to-drive cars on the coast (to easen things up a bit for new players). We are not running any Rmod vehicles atm, though that may change in the future (at least for some vehicles, though there will be no tanks). The server is scheduled to restart it's service every 6 hours, starting at 0 am (GMT-2). Most of the time at least one admin is contactable by the player-base in case some shit goes down. Ok so what can I expect in the future? This is a list of things i want to implement as soon as our change to bliss is completed: -Gameplay: -Completely overhauled vehicle spawns (high priority): We want to implement vehicle spawns so that basically low-tier to mid-tier vehicles like cars/bikes etc.. will mostly/exclusively spawn in coastal areas or areas that are more close to the coast. High-tier vehicles like helicopters/more prestigious cars etc.. will spawn exclusively in the inland and secluded places to encourage a sense of achievement for acquiring them. High-tier vehicles will also be more "rare". -Changed spawn for medical loot (mid-high priority): We actually want people who have reached a state of end-game to be in need to return to the coastal area/hospitals in order to acquire medical supplies. This may hopefully counteract some players behavior to bunker themselves in the north without the need to return to the coastal starting areas. Therefore We will remove medical boxes from crashsites, or make them VERY rare to spawn. Medical loot spawning in military areas (e.g. NWA) will also be severely reduced. What's the goal with this? Basically to improve interaction between players who operate in the coastal areas and players who operate mostly in the northern/inland areas. -Security: -Gotcha Anti-Cheat & Anti-Haxx (highest priority) ... as soon as Gotcha-site is up&running again... -B.E.C. (highest priority) What sort of players are we looking for?: Mostly everything as long as you dont cheat ;D. But i would highly appreciate if some bandits would find their way to our server to roughen things up a bit, we realy are growing too fat with loot. Paved roads, dirt airstrips, bomb sites, Hoards of zombies, and Death Barracks: You can go in, but the Zeds may never let you leave. Custom Debug monitor is ON!! Side Chat is ON, do not spam the voice. Starting loadout is a Makrav, 1 clip, 1 bandage, 1 painkillers, 1 patrol pack. M107 and AS50 have been removed Fly in a manned UAV heli. Careful though, they are easily taken down by small arms fire. Feeling the need to get away in the rough and hostile world of Zombies, visit Ramon's Plantation to see what he has grown to take your mind off things!!! Plenty of vehicles to get you from point A to point B, approximately 200-300 vehicles,. 8 choppers. Discussing Server settings: - 24/7 daytime - removing 50 cal snipers(being discussed)(REMOVED) - peripheral dots on/off Server just started yesterday evening, less than 20hrs ago!

You know, funny thing is to me the features that have come in the last 2 patches that have been taken from community modded servers have added and improved the game. And nice of you to pre-judge. While you may be right slightly, in the fact that I have played DayZ very little in probably the last 2 or 3 months, I played it a hell of a lot before and going back to May/ June back when the population was down at 200,000. The community, with their KOS and sit camping the coastal towns 24/7 made the experience dull and boring over time. Also, having learnt how the game works, and being able to gear up easily within 10-30 mins depending on where you spawn, made the game less challenging when compared to when I first started playing. Thats when I came across DayZ Redux (where a large number of the community made changes have come from) bought life back into DayZ for me. It had extra content, the loot table and spawn locations were re-worked making what used to be buildings and towns that no one would ever go near, viable places to look for loot. Weapons that were deemed OP and "not within the spirit of the mod" were removed, more vehicles, food and drink types, tent mechanics and other general gameplay mechanics were added. It all added up to make the experience of DayZ fresh again, and I felt the fear that I had when I loaded DayZ up, and spawned on the coast for the very first time. As for splitting the community...if anything it's trying to draw it in closer, making the line between white-listed servers with exclusives features and the public hive smaller. The removal of the stats table is just another step in the right direction. -

Just started my own server last night and I'm hoping to see a lot of people make my server their main one over the weekend. It's pretty solid I do not make changes that would compromise your character, gear, location, and tents. PvP and PvZ are welcome so feel free to be a hero or a bandit. I'll be adding more vehicles to the map to balance it out from 25 to 100 this weekend. Also I host trivia in game for prizes(in game items) on weekends. Trivia will take place in game. Current - *Vehicle spawn: 25 *Extra starting item: Hatchet *All vehicles need to be repaired before driving. *Difficulty: Regular *Trivia for items Coming soon - *Gotcha anti-hack *Vehicle spawn: 100 *Difficulty: Veteran *More players IP: 173.192.70.136:3306 -

Someone clearly hasn't read the updates to the standalone. It doesn't look anything like what your hoping for, and what "apocalyptic features" that are in already, make sense. Like another guy said before me, it comes through wear and tear of a disused/ desolate landscape. Any further changes will be player made, things like boarding up windows and setting fire to vehicles or tents and the like. Red through the updates that rocket has posted, and I guarantee it will put your mind at ease....then excite it like mad for the features that are hopefully coming :P -
My comment, good and active admins. Increased vehicle count but not too many, military vehicles are rarer than all others. Tasteful custom buildings added to make different areas more interesting. We have some friendly randoms and a few organised groups at the moment, which has been making for some interesting gameplay :) We will also be moving to a dedicated server in a couple of weeks to provide more customization & possibly a second server running off the same HIVE.
