when i'm geared i usually estabilsh a territory to patrol and some locations to loot regularly and watch the days counter go up..i'm not a bandit so i easily spare someone's life even if he's in ''my'' zone, but if i'm shot i have the advantage to have a way out and some paths i know..anyway if someone has butthurt he can find me there sooner or later..i bet a lot of people have my same behavior..the area changes with your possibilities..so if you have vehicles it's bigger but the concept is the same..people have paths like animals..i always do the same route from the coast to the north with a given spawn :-)

shot a guy in his back while a teammate was swearing him he was friendly..all to steal his motorbike(he was carrying the fuel from a close gas station :-D) and the most exciting non-kill: i find a guy and follow him in the north..he's killed buy a ghillie near a car..the ghillie starts repairing..i watch, i start flanking when another player comes and falls dead..i stop: bino: sniper in the bushes..a ural comes..another bunch of big dogs in camo and stanag rifles..second sniper above the first comes down to the car, they finish the job and go away with both vehicles..i sit happy in my skin.. -

USS has a new server for Dayz. Been with them playing for the past week. They are good people. Still currently fixing and modifying. But they are at the end of the string of updates. Game needs a sniper heavier than 7.62

First, I wasn't talking about DayZ. Of course you can have more than one gun in DayZ, do you think I'm that stupid? I'm talking about how in a real apocalypse, nobody who has any small amount of sense in their brain would carry an anti-material rifle around. Secondly, Fun with Flare's point was their shouldn't be American weapons there in the first place, which is completely different from the dev's point of view. "I see no issue with 1HK weapons when all guns can 1HK with headshots." Anyway, let's clear up why anti-material rifles shouldn't be in DayZ. 1. Realistic impracticability. You cry realism as the reason it should be in the game, and fail to realize how ineffective it would be in a real scenario; which is what DayZ is emulating. If you want to make it realistic, you're going to be one slow bastard. 2. Unnecessary. There's really no reason for a .50 cal weapon to be in the game. Any servers you play where you are having problems with armoured vehicles and helicopters is missing the point of DayZ anyway - and I don't give a shit about those servers. In vanilla DayZ, vehicles, especially choppers, are difficult to find, repair and get working. I didn't see a chopper for well over a month when I started playing. You really don't need anti-material rifles just because you want to destroy everybody's work as fast as humanly possible. If you disagree with that, you're just being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole and don't actually care about this conversation. Not only that, for how rare those weapons should be I call bullshit that anybody with one only uses it to defend themselves from choppers. However, I do think the weapons on choppers should be removed and the ability to fire your weapon from a chopper implemented (see Dyslecxi's Arma 2 Little Bird mod). 3. Game Balance - DayZ Standalone is a fucking game, get over yourselves. It's not realistic, nothing can ever be close to real life. You can be authentic, like adding and removing things that make sense in a real apocalypse (see point #1); but it's a game, and like all other games, it needs to be balanced. I don't care that people are bandits; in fact, I like bandits, because the game would be boring without them. But what I don't like is that the bandit playstyle is by far the most effective and most viable playstyle. Sniping with an As50 is definitely one of the easiest and simplest ways to play the game, as well as one of the best ways to live in the game without hiding in the woods and doing absolutely nothing. I don't like that at all; I'd like to see playstyles that require co-operation between players become as equally viable and effective way to play the game. Having a rifle effective over a kilometer that kills in one hit is the epitome of imbalance; and you complain about choppers. -

Just make a similar map that you can go over to true like a mountain passage or something like that. Include a couple of cities like elektro and cherno and some small villages. Also make some snowy mountain areas that are really cold and require special winter clothes to survive longer times in. I'm sure the Dayz devs. could make that interesting enough. Also add some features like having a dog, new weapons, vehicles (snow mobile?), building a house (make it not to hard to build a little crap steel hut, but harder the bigger the house would be so that the map not gonna be crowded with big houses) and other cool stuff

I had 3 vehicles that were not being reclaimed by server cleanup and spawning. They had been teleported & destroyed in the debug plains where players spawn. I have since been able to "destroy" the 3 offending vehicles and using TG ! Jimmy's forced maintenance was able to get two of the vehicles to spawn back into the map. I moved them into the map and saved them and they have been staying in place through restarts. I'd definately like to see some more info on the future of vehicles. We know that they're being fully overhauled at some point in the future and that the plan is to allow for vehicle customisation and swapping parts etc. as well as maybe crafting certain elements to aid that customisation. Dean also said they'd like to add more specific and realistic damage models, individual parts being damaged etc. I guess that's all a way off yet though so for now we can only speculate. If the handling could be improved over the traditionally bad Arma 2 handling then that would be pretty awesome. Time will tell I guess. -
No, I have little faith in vehicles in Arma 2 and I doubt PhysX will be implemented into the SA (I could be wrong of course). Arma 2 vehicles handle like shit (civilian ground at least) and it would take a ton of effort to fix them imo.

Good post Reg. I think looking at the way the other mods have evolved and the way people play on them is fundamentally important to understanding the cooperative/kos nature of gameplay. I've had significantly better luck meeting cooperative players on servers that are more difficult or servers that are whitelisted at the very least. It seems to me like the majority (though definitely not all... I know there's a lot of good bandits out there too) of players who want to KoS, just look for any server with as many vehicles and added bases and weapons as possible. They're not playing for the survival experience at all. So, when SA is released and they don't have a choice in the matter, I do think there will be a lot of bambi-bandits, who will immediately get bored and move on to something else... Could be totally wrong, but I think the differences in play-styles on each of the mods/servers is very telling of peoples habits and motives. -

1.They lowered loot rate for some stuff ( antibiotics ), loot isn't spread though, loot spread is only for some mod such as namalask, origin etc 2. Custom server are custom, visit their website to see what's up with them ( sometimes they put the most impotant add on in their server name ) 3. Now there's stronger zombies ( only stronger if you can't headshot ) that can infect you, you need antibiotics ( which are rare now ) to heal yourself, otherwise you die at some point because it constantly make you lose blood when you're infected. 4. Player for 6 months and saw maybe 2 hackers 5. I mostly play on overwatch and namalask, sorry. I don't like vanilla. 6. Origins, overwatch and namalask are really good for PvP and fun. In origin you can build bases for hero or bandit and such. Overwatch is a chernaurus map with added vehicles ( mounted with guns for example ) and such, more PvP. And namalask is a ice map with lots of PvP and player interaction. -

Hello all. So, being on the recieving end of a childish admin kick on a particular server (Vanilla, Private Hive), I decided to enact some vengeance. This involved my running around the edge of the map, trying to locate one of the main bases on the server (best place to start is the edge, it attracts camps like flies around shit - for the less experienced rambler!). I started in the extreme SW, making sure to check all the obvious woodland clearings that Mountain Men of The Edge use as helipads. I found several small groups of tents on the way, then hit paydirt at the head of the Guba inlet (128,012). I then annouced the location to the server, role-playing as a Communist I wanted my fellow proletariat survivors to share the wealth of helicopters, vehicles and enough firepower to launch a prolonged insurgency. Sadly, the Clan members did not approve and the word 'prick' was banded about a lot, along with the threat of murder and being banned :) Video to follow, once it is processed :) For the Motherland!

US 1994 Admin Vehicle Hoarding

I am the server owner of US 1994. John hasn't played in awhile, so I need to correct a few things. We have the military offroad, a red UAZ, a Huey, and a humvee. Another group has vehicles; a bus, the hatchback, and the Mi-17. We do not hoard all of the vehicles. Chet stated that I have the ability to locate all vehicles' grids in my server, and I can see the grids where players log in. This is true. All admins on the public hive have this ability. All vehicles get logged once the server loads up. I do not abuse by looking at these logs to steal other players' vehicles. In some cases, I have looked up vehicle coordinates, such as the AN2 cargo plane, MH6J Littlebird (black) and the Humvee, as they were in the debug area for some time. And on some occasions, I have looked at the logs to determine if a vehicle was "ignored" by the public hive after being destroyed. I have seen where vehicles were located, and I have seen where players have logged in. Again, any admin on any public hive server can do this. I am the only person on my server who looks at that particular log file. The OP started this thread because a script kiddie teleported vehicles to another group's base. I was online when it happened, and banned the person who teleported the vehicles. The vehicles teleported were the Ural, a Tractor, the S1203 van, and the Mi-17. In the process the script kiddie destroyed their tents which contained most of their gear. Because of this the group duped items to make up for it. I let that slide and didn't ban them for that, as I thought it didn't matter because they had just lost their tents to a scripter, which had most of their gear. They had added on more vehicles to their base such as the old hatchback, and the humvee (which had been brought out of the debug area by changing a line in the server pbo), so then they had a good majority of vehicles at their base. Chet believed all of the vehicles they had were gotten illegitimately, and he blamed me for being OK with it, hence why he made this thread. At any rate, we as admins of US 1994 do not hoard vehicles, or cheat to get them. Furthermore, it isn't even against the rules for a group to hoard vehicles, anyway. Thanks, CrazyKid -
Dayz is really fun but i suggest playing Wasteland, it is pretty much dayz but without the zombies and it has heaps of vehicles with weapons in them, it also has missions to do and you make massive bases

So I did a quick check in this forum for suggestions on leaderboards/statistics, didn't find anything as comprehensive or as specifically dedicated to SA as I'm looking to do. Here it goes: - Suggestion: Make sure there is a leaderboard/statistics board by the time the full game is released, and at least try it out in beta! Hopefully it would look something like this: - Average Life (in minutes) - Longest Life - Shortest Life - Total Lives - Activity Barometer. Average Life Time, Average Zombie Kills, Average Player Kills, Average Distance Traveled (running), Average Distance Traveled (vehicles) all combined. - Average Player Kills (per Average Life Time) - Average Bandit Kills (if they will exist) - Average Survivor Kills (again, if the humanity system exists) - Average Hero Kills (lastly, if humanity etc.) - Total Player Kills - Total Bandit Kills - Total Survivor Kills - Total Hero Kills - Max Players Killed in 1 Life - Max Bandits Killed in 1 Life - Max Survivors Killed in 1 Life - Max Hero's Killed in 1 Life - Min Players Killed in 1 Life - Average Humanity (if it exists) - Max Humanity - Min Humanity - Average Zed Kills (per life) - Total Zed Kills - Max Zed Killed in 1 Life - Max Zed Killed in 1 Life - Average Distance Run - Total Distance Run - Max Distance Run in 1 Life - Min Distance Run in 1 Life - Average Distance Moved (in vehicle) - Total Distance Moved (in vehicle) - Max Distance Moved (in vehicle) in 1 Life - Min Distance Moved (in vehicle) in 1 Life - Total Shots Fired - Shots on Target (Zed's) - Shots on Target (Players) - Accuracy (Zed's) - Accuracy (Players) - Headshots (Zed's) - Headshots (Players) - Weapons Usage (Time "in hands") - Kills per weapon (Zed) - Kills per weapon (Player) Now... Obviously we could keep going, but those are the things I'd most like to do. All these stats could then be compiled into a leaderboard, you could view it between your friends, a global leaderboard, and possibly region or server filtered. Reasoning: I love stats, and it was really cool when we first had them with the mod. I'm also pretty sure that to some degree this sort of stat tracking is possible in the arma engine, thus not making it impossible (maybe impracticable, but hey that's what suggestion boards are for!). Also, rocket, or whoever looks at this, notice I asked for this with RETAIL release, or beta (IF POSSIBLE) so I'm not one of those demanding, blithering idiots that simply wants it. I just think it would be a really nice metagame/endgame feature that some people, such as myself, might focus on. And dare I say it, perhaps take away, slightly, the pvp? haha i kid. i kid. I'm sure others will nitpick the list, but just think of all the cool (useless, or is it...?) information you could have available! I ran into such and such a player, let me check out his stats! Oh... he always is in a vehicle on this server, hmm, but he PK's on this one! Uh oh, better watch out. Ok, i'm tired, blabbering now. Just think about it! Later.
