    Bug avoidance when vehicle fixing.

    Cheers, I've only been playing Day Z about a month or so now and mainly stick to the public hives where vehicles are much rarer so they have tended to be the focus of my play. Spending ages getting loot, particularly for choppers only for a bug to stop it working is really annoying so wanted it to stop happening to others. If you manage to find a chopper, collect all the loot for it and avoid being killed by other players the least you deserve is the chance to fly that bad boy.
  3. Lots of new and interesting things have been added to server. these include. Fast Rope from Chopers, the ability to Self. now able to Remove Car parts from vehicles. Drag and load in Motorcycles in the back of urals and pickups. lots of new bases and extra building all around map plus a bridge to skalisty that can be guarded. as well as new bandit and hero perks. Me and I'm sure plenty of other have suffered some bugs relating to vehicles not repairing, eating parts, still leaking etc. so seeing as I'm fairly new to the game I thought I'd do a little guide for new players so they don't put that effort into vehicle repairing only for a bug to make it pointless. This mainly applied to public hive servers from my experience, which makes it more annoying as vehicles are much scarce than on most private hives. 1. Designated Repairer Whilst it might seem quicker to have several players repair the vehicle, don't, leave it to one guy. In fact don't let anyone get into or touch the vehicle until it's fully repaired. Other can lay needed parts on the ground or into your back pack. 2. Get in get out Simply that, get in as the driver and get out again as the designated repairer before you start repairing.. 3. Damage Nothing dramatic, don't go shooting AS50 rounds into the engine or the like, a quick tap with an axe to a non-sensitive part will suffice. (car will 'bleed') For example I recently repaired an Mi-17 and beforehand gave it a tap on the wheel with the axe. Both this and the getting in are to 'sync' the vehicle into the server. 4. Repair in turn Repair ALL parts that are red, responding to each section in turn (more for ease of remembering) In some cases it's taken the until the vehicle is fully repaired for parts to show that they have been repaired. Don't load 4 scrap metals onto that one hull section, you'll just waste those parts. 5. Broken Glass = Leaks This applies mainly in choppers (which are a pain to refuel in vanilla Day Z) but broken glass of any type (orange or below I think) causes the vehicle to leak fuel. If you've spent 20 minutes shuttling back and forth with 4 jerry cans, you'll be annoyed to find half of it already gone so fix that glass! DayZ wiki will tell you what parts you need to repair a vehicle - http://dayz.gamepedi.../Vehicle_Repair For example the Mi-17 will need (like all choppers I think) 1 Engine part (6 inventory slots), 1 Main Rotor (6 slots) , 4 Scrap Metal (3 slots per SM) and 8 Windscreen Glass (2 slots per WG) to fully repair from everything red. The vehicle itself will also tell you what it needs for each section if you attempt to repair it with no part. You will of course also need a toolbox and enough fuel in jerry cans to move it somewhere. (Chopper will need a good 6+ cans to get it to the closest fuel point) Hope that helps, if you follow that you should avoid vehicle repair bugs as I've now followed that process several times and it's worked. (BTW If you encounter the bug where you 'get out' of the chopper but you are still inside the chopper's body/hull DON'T MOVE, you will break legs and probably die. Just go to prone immediately and roll out)

    Returning to DayZ. Any major changes?

    welcome back Kyono! i have been away for a few months, too, and returned recently.. there are a few new toys, and if you're like me, you will avoid reading the changelog and just enjoy the exploration of new things, and be awed when you suddenly find them :D i have only once encountered a hacker since i returned, and that motherless bastard exchanged my alice pack full of gorgeous windscreens for a friggin coyote with crap loot in it (DMR, NVG, GPS, shit like that) - how was i supposed to fix a chopper with a GPS??? anyways, other than that, things were fine.. there is a fuckton of private hives now with the most obscene modifications (25000 vehicles, Asswipe Script, new characters spawn with GPS, NVG and 6 Diapers), pay-for-loot schemes emerged among unscrupulous server admins, stuff like that.. generally, the game is still fun, there are still fucktards around, but also a good share of friendlies or neutral players..

    Heat loss on boats

    If you are in the cabin (inside) of a boat you shouldn't lose heat but rather gain heat, also sailboats and more boats in general would add to immersion as a boat is considered to be one of the best survival vehicles, finally sea conditions should affect boat stability, for aiming purposes.

    these are great servers looking for players. our taviana server has custom bases built into the landscape for players to use, most have a barracks that spawn loot. there is a custom check point with ammo crate on the west end of the bridge. 2 u.s basic ammo crates on the server that refill at each start up. custom military loot spawns at sabina square. mk16 and mk17 weapons added to server along with mk12 spr, mg36, g36 series also spawn. weapons spawn in vehicles. come and join the fun and check out the map. active and mature admins on this server

    - As long as you keep running, zombies will never touch you. - Often it pays to go prone and low crawl into a high density zombie area. - Doing the above can prevent zombie aggro, which can prevent players from detecting your presence. - Read the zombie sign before going in. Running, growling zombies indicate a player's presence. - Take care when acknowledging another player or meeting them. Always prepare for and expect the worst from most everyone else. - Beware helicopter crashes and vehicles. Bandits/Player Killers love to use them as bait. - Take care killing zombies in doorways, as it can be hard to get over their bodies if they pile up. - If zombies are entering your building en masse do not panic. Get to the corner furthest from the front door and go prone. - Always use buildings and terrain to your advantage when entering a new area. Beware rooftops and high ground. - If shot at do not panic. Panic will get you killed. Stay calm, keep moving, get to cover, return fire. - If another player seems to be threatening you, do not hesitate. - You do not have to kill on sight. Instead, you can shoot another player in the leg and later give them medical treatment if a misunderstanding. - Do not believe that all Admins are good because they are Admins. Bad behavior is bad behavior. - You do not have to bend to the wishes of an Admin. If one demands you help them or give them a ride, find another server. - Remember to have fun.

    What's your reason to KOS?

    I have to have a reason to shoot someone on sight? Like they might have looked at me wrong or took a step towards me? How about I KOS because I freaking want to. I hunt people because in this VIDEO GAME it is fun to do. To the OP...stop trying to be a passive aggressive player who is trying to make those of us who do KOS bad. How is this for my reason. When I log into a server, that map is now my territory. You are trespassing on my territory and the penalty for trespassing is death. If I see you on my territory I will shoot you down. All vehicles, loot, zombies, animals, belong to me as they are in my territory.

    The "DayZ" Feel

    I think that the DayZ experience can be revitalized for us, with new content, new features, unpredictable zombie behavior, etc. Whether this happens with the standalone, a new DayZ mod, or by tinkering with the code ourselves ... the next new old thrill is out there. What I do not think would do it for DayZ veterans, is a new mod, the newness of which is defined by a few new weapons, vehicles or slightly different terrain. I do not care if there are 600 new weapons to try out because I'd be using them - however cool they were - on the same old zombies and bandits in the usual garb. It's going to take a real imaginative concept to bring back that feeling.

    Am I the only person that really doesn't care for 'base building'?

    Oh yeah, I have no problem with groups/clans stockpiling anything that respawns, as long as they're not exploiting game mechanics to do so (see the 'tent' problem, where people spam tents over high-value loot spawns) - the main issue with stockpiling is vehicles. The 'vehicle' part of a player's DayZ experience is a key one, as it allows the player to be much more mobile and transport much larger items, such as heli spares and so on. It also makes for a key part of the 'social' side of DayZ, too. I've made many new friends simply by stopping to pick someone up who looks like they could use a ride, or by getting picked up by friendly passing drivers. That's simply not going to happen if every vehicle on the map is locked away in some clan's garage, and that's why I'm so concerned about the 'hoarding' issue. It has the potential to alter the gameplay experience rather significantly, and not necessarily for the better.

    If I understood the idea well, you want zombies not to be able to get in the vehicles or on top of them in order for us,the players, to be able to use vehicles as a temporary escape-thingy place ? It could be nice tho.. But some vehicles are hard to climb on them lol :P Maybe a new feature called "climb" would be helpful to get for example on the vehicles. And about getting im them.. Most of them are like pieces of metal scrubs.. x)) I dont think you would desire to get in them instead of getting eaten by zeds =))
  23. Hiya fella, you're welcome to come and tag along with our Day Z groups. We're The BSB Network (http://www.bsbnetwork.com) , a social gaming clan for mature and fair gamers. We happy to have anyone run with us on our server and use our Mumble comms server as long as they have a bit of common sense and play fair. We have a custom Server running modified Cherno (additional barracks, extended cities, hidden ammo/weapon/explosive caches, ambush points, checkpoints, custom vehicles, weapons etc.) and our members are divided into two factions (as well as a few lone wolves). Our factions compete against each otehr and we have regular events too. If you're interested visit our website and you can apply to join, other than that you can join the server and just tag along.     Standalone Suggestion

    Hello all and good day... So you know all of those destroyed vehicles and tanks? I guess the first time you played you said to yourself,"What happened here". Well lets get that in the standalone. My idea: Make STATIC non-enter able tanks, cars, and trucks. These cannot be entered or used. You can climb on top of the tanks and cars to escape zombies, but they can climb on top if in a uncommon chance. The trucks and cars doors can be open with a lot of wires frayed out and the hoods popped on some with parts missing. The tanks not being enter able can be explained by the hatches being locked. Please comment and tell me what you think.
  25. Right so first off these aren't complete solutions or ideas. I’m posting them here so as a community we can improve the ideas to a standard that would fit the DayZ feel. Blueprints The idea behind blueprints would be engineering a solution to a problem you face in the DayZ world. This solution could be anything from, creating a D.I.Y. weapon or building a base. Blueprints would require some materials first of all, so you can’t just make a bunch of them and also can’t do it straight away when first starting the game. When designing the item/solution you want in the blueprint, you won’t be able to use everything available in the world. You will be limited to the resources you have/ have come across (i.e. you have knowledge of their existence in the world) to build the solution you want. The way I see this working is very much similar to what you can do in Garry’s Mod for HL2 (see Appendix 1), but a much more limited version… else we’ll see a lot of flying zombies via balloon power. You would be able to combined different objects in the world to create a new object, easy example: Multiple wooden planks placed next to each other with 2 planks across can make a fence. If you wanted to make this lethal, you could have spiked poles coming through the gaps or nails coming out the planks. I’m not quite sure on the implementation of actually getting this new fence in the ground, but hopefully there will be some solution. So this item/ solution would be made in the blueprint, maybe blueprints can be copied and passed around so more people can create your object. Once you have a working solution, you would be able to place a transparent object on the ground (I don’t really like this idea, but it’s the best I have so far), rotate it and then lock it in. I’m not sure who would be able to see this transparent object, friends, your clan etc probably, they would all be able to contribute to the resources it requires. Building the object would require you/ your friends to collect the resources which were designated during the design blueprint phase. Once all resources are collected, it will take X amount of time to finish building. This building phase could have several ways to go about it, but this is the one I've thought of and there probably is a better implementing this phase…but you get the idea. Base Building Since DayZ gives a ‘realistic’ feel to surviving, base building would need to fit this, so I’m not talking about building a brick houses. The houses would be of a more wooden structure or corrugated metal and would revolve around the blueprints idea. An example of a D.I.Y. house would be a shack made out of road signs, did a google search there is such a thing. I think base building should include many forms allowing people to get creative, for example: · This could involve setting up a fence around (part of) an already established town. · Repairing structures that have weak spots. i.e. if we had prisons, repairing any holes in the fences that may be there. · Creating your own base out of wooden/metal structures. · Going underground, digging a base underground perhaps? This would require reinforcing the tunnels with wooden structures. All of these options seem to be a possibility for a base, and each has their own advantages and disadvantages. For example the first point, it would be easy to do and require less resources but at the same time the amount of ‘traffic’ coming through would be a lot more than if you made a base in the woods (Traffic referring to the amount of zombies and people who know about your base). As I stated previously base building would revolve around the idea of blueprints. These bases would be made of out several objects found around the world and placed together to form houses, fences, lookout towers, shops. Basically if given enough time an in-game community could thrive against the hordes of zombies. Could go as far as to suggest, the game could ‘pickup’ that a community has been made or development has been established and spawn more zombies near this location, which are more aggressive, trying to break down the fences, etc. A community or group of people living within these structures would go hand in hand, with the already possible end game of vehicles. As these would be used to gather more resources than if one person was dragging along some plank(s) of wood. I read another post, which disagrees with base building (http://dayzmod.com/f...-base-building/). Some of the main complaints were about organised groups having the advantage, but as I said in the beginning this game has a realistic approach to it. So what do you think would happen in any post-apocalyptic world? People will always group up, as there is power in numbers. This fits the realistic feel of what would actually happen, in my opinion. Additional thoughts (on the paragraph above) Groups of people shouldn't be scavenging for food, as it shouldn't be able to sustain them. This is where renewable sources of food come in, leaving all the beans and scraps around for the solo players. Groups of players will most likely raid places to get firepower, but they will most likely have more to protect, so it makes sense for them to have it. I also think groups’ raiding other groups is fine; it is a post-apocalyptic world after all, fight for survival. A groups needs should be catering to the group, whereas solo play should be stealth and obviously yourself. These two types of requirements should keep both types of players entertained, with goals to fulfill Both sets of players can still disrupt the other player’s goals, either by ransacking a camp or by stealthily sneaking into a camp and stealing supplies.
