Just keep in mind, one thing. When standalone gets released is going to be an alpha version. This is a stage prior to a beta version. As you can understand it is not going to be a full/complete game, many features will be missing (vehicles for example), it'll have bugs/glitches, etc. So if you'd like to help with testing and are willing to put up with bugs/glitches, wait a couple of months for the standalone. If you want vehicles, fishing, other extra features and less bugs then go for Arma 2: CO, and play the DayZ mod.

I think a neat feature would be the ability to trap a vehicle,deployable with batteries. say 6 batteries applied with wire would create a 48 hour booby trap on the specified item first 2 people to access the loot would be killed unless disarmed with 65% kill rate during disarm if not owner. or use 10 batteries a wire and scrapmetal for a 96 hour trap with inability to disarm unless owner and 100% chance to kill first 4 survivors who try to steal from it I also believe we should have 5-6 times the civilian weapons, golf club to aluminum bats. ability to use things like a chair to defend yourself against zeds. give people the ability to climb trees with chance zombies loose interest after a long time ie 5-10 minutes but under 3 minutes they call more towards. i believe that all arma guns should be in game but require crafting them or at least part of them like say ability to find a burnt out tws but to repair it you require 1 nvg 1 gps a battery and soldering kit. same for guns the ability to find the trigger mechanism at army base the barrels butt the works. but you require a gun smithing kit to put them together plus a desk. make a desk a craftable item so too with right gear ie tookbox and plywood and logs. this would allow long term players the small chance to build high end loot but new players would be using civilian weapons. again when i say ability to build a gun im thinking a barrel for m16 or m4a1 would be .01% chance to spawn. firing mechanism, 0.001. firing pin 0.001 butt/stock 0.01 so on and so forth so it would take you weeks to build 1 gun if your lucky unlucky you would have to trade for it i think that we should get 4-5 times the variety of food 4-5 times the variety of animals. inclusive of poisonous snakes and spiders, put on wrong pair of shoes and get a bite from a black widow or brown reclous or whatever spider types that are local to the area. Wolfs bears added make hiding in woods for long periods more dangerous. i think that another great feature would be add in player control parachutes again for jumping from planes and heli's add parachutes to the loot table so if you jump without one<splat> i think dayz should have the ability to tow vehicles but require a winch that can only be found via loot spawn, or built then attached to vehicles and allow you to tow, or 1 or 2 tow trucks per map. my final idea i have would to add batteries to cars if the car sits too long battery goes dead and you have to use a generator to jump the car add in alternators and require them to be replaced every so often or starters add more parts to all vehicles so they are easier to repair but require more specialized parts like if you hit a zombie in a uaz or gaz it damages the quarter panel directly and if you hit it at excessive speed it could damage the frame and require extensive work that could only be done at specific spots on the map or a base and add the ability to craft or build a garage. -

They did not everything is much worse now, once you get "hit" you have 15 minutes to find a sterile wipe to clean your wounds if you don't clean the wound, you get infected and loose 1 blood/sec vehicles still gets hogged that will never get fixed. Antibiotics are still rare, but medical supplies actually spawn in hospitals again! there is a crafting system now....but the stuff you need to craft is so rare good luck ever using the system. Everything is also super rare now, such as guns and ammo, and the zombies while are alot better need their detection rate tuned down like .5% to be perfect. I find the infection stupid. I get moderate cuts scrapes and such all the time. In fact, in my whole life, I've never had an infected wound. I generally rinse with water when I get a chance, and that's about it. Hell even deep shit, just rinse and maybe bandage. -
Hey mate, I am the admin of a DayZ Chernarus Epoch server! It was only started up 2 days ago so it's fairly new. I have quite a large group on the server, we currently aren't recruiting but hopefully you could find some people because we would love a rival clan to get into some tactical engagements against. It has over 100 vehicles, it's also hosted in Dallas, Texas (I'm an Aussie) I get good frames and very rarely minor desync with a ping of about 300! So hopefully you can join! The admins are mature, active, freindly and playing legit. The server is good and dosnt lag at all. (and that is from someone who plays with 130-150 ms) the map is beautiful and well made and the custom bases are just incredible. i have seen all of the whiners that have posted here in game.. and well.. there is no need to post shit about a server just becouse you die and dont wanna admit that dayz it self have some bugs and the player who killed you was just better.. so if someone is avoid this server becouse of the bad players posting bad posts about a good server then sure, find another server.. but if your looking for loads of action, nice gear, good variety of vehicles and bases then The Hunting Grounds IS the place for you. -

All I'm going to say, is that admins already use powers to fly around, spawn in vehicles/gear, teleport to players, and wreak asshole-levels of havoc. Making them more powerful is awful. That being said, official servers should have the power. -

Full List of current changes! Things listed in green are the basic changes we have made.100+ NPC AI, These are NPCs that roam the map with a decent set of gear. They are basically only used to scare you and help you gear up. They have been nerfed unlike most servers that leave all stats at 1.0.Vehicle cap has been increased to 125 spawns.Common weapons include AKs & M4s and a larger assortment of other guns including some snipers. Npc's have over 50 main hand weapons that they can spawn with and over 15 off hand weapons. It is very rare but npc's can also have M203 HEs and Grenades.NPCs spawn with some weapons that aren't found in Vanilla DayZ.Npcs can also drop an assortment of medical supplies and tools. (Antibiotics :D)NPC Aiming Accuracy = 0.2NPC Aiming Shake = 0.7NPC Aiming Speed = 0.6Over 300 new loots spawns most of them are low and mid grade military.Over 40 high grade military loot spawns have also been added.We are customizing the map with buildings blended in to the original map's roads and runways.Over 250 new buildings have been added (Modified areas below).Over 25 new vehicles spawns have been added in the following locations as well. Backpacks spaces are incorrect. The server you are putting in is not good for fresh players. They should learn from public hives (they arent that haxxy anymore). If you wanted to play crapload of loot and vehicles pvp then go play wasteland. I know you are advertising your server but chillout with that a bit. If you will get annoying, noone will come. -
Hey all, Okay so here is my idea for the items in DayZ, probably SA doing a little more than just helping us survive. I think the environment and things you pick up should tie us into the 'back-story' of the game. It would be a difficult balance because the most important part of the story is the adventures we have, alone or with friends, but being able to find out just a little about how the virus started would be enjoyable, I think it would add to the meta game. So you know how we already have those military camps which randomly spawn in the woods, and we also have deer stands and crashes? Well I think sometimes we could get cues from the game to indicate a point of interest. I do NOT mean you log in and a pop-up appears saying HELI CRASH AT THESE COORDINATES! We'd have to work on looting a bit harder than that. Items which could immerse us could include: Radio. That fake ( :( ) post where someone claimed the radio went off in game and gave the coordinates of deer stands got me thinking. What if this really could happen, radios would be rare and would have a rare chance of going off with some such information when picked up. The code could be morse code, words, numbers, a foreign language or just a location clue. You'd need to write down the message in your in game log or outside the game to remember it. If you work out what the message is you could proceed to the base/crashsite/camp/overturned vehicle, whatever to find a rare piece of loot and a note or document giving a bit of the lore for those who are interested.Matches. Currently if you get matches, a knife and a hatchet some have argued that you can live in the woods for ages. If matches ran out though they would be much more valuable. Ways of making fire could include 'book of matches', like those you find in hotels, reasonably common, up to 6 matches in a book but often not many left when you find them. 'Small box of matches', like those you find in a bar, less common, up to 15 in a box. 'Regular box of matches', up to 30 in a box, but often spawn with far less in them, quite rare. 'Disposable lighter', not many 'uses' left, very rare. 'Metal lighter' and 'Lighter fluid', extremely rare items acquired as a matter of pride but also because they last the longest. Now, going back to the 'book of matches' - they could SOMETIMES have something written on the back, a clue to where to find stashes and points of interest that I mentioned above, giving this seemingly normal item an exciting twist.Maps. Maps would simply have a small chance to have something written on them when you found them. Leading to... who knows.GPS. Would have a very small chance to beep or to have some saved co-ords on it again leading to a point of interest.Compass, maybe someone has scratched something interesting onto the back of it. I think changes like this would encourage survivors to 'examine' the items they pick up, this option would need to be in the UI though.I did a couple searches on the forum, I couldn't see any similar topics but apologies if this has been said before. If it has point me in the right direction, I would be interested to read it. Also I think players could stumble across stashes and secrets without these prompts, however they would be difficult to find. Maybe the info above wouldn't appear on items if the stash had already been looted and the notes/documents already taken by another player, however if not everything had been looted and more than one player was prompted to go to the same place, well that would lead to some interesting encounters. So what do you guys think? Currently I think players roam the landscape looking to make friends, kill, survive and repair vehicles but what if the game gave you subtle motivations too? I agree. I think this game needs a more rich environment. I'm thinking tunnels through mountains, underground areas like sewers, long lines of wrecked vehicles on the highways, that sort of stuff. Plus old medical quarantine equipment, as well as zombiefied medical workers, soldiers, journalists, non-immune survivors who carry ragged packs with supplies (and maybe even helpful notes which can lead the player to points of interest or randomly generated stashes or camps) in them. On that, I'd also like to see the occasional randomly generated camp in the woods. There might be some supplies, maybe a few of those infected survivors, ect. Similar to how helicopter crashes are generated in the game now, which is a clear violation of rocket's dogma about everything being player generated. I like that I'm not given objectives, and therefore everything I do is of my own prerogative. But it is not an excuse to underdevelop the environment. I want a world that's filled with context about the situation that I am in, so I can explore it. Otherwise, it's just Chernarus with zombies, which eventually reduces itself to "free for all deathmatch." It should bear the look and consequence of a landscape ravaged by human disaster. -

Do these still exist? I logged on after about a 7 month break and was still wearing my Soldier Clothes, different from camo, they have a helmet and mag pouches on the front, look pretty badass even at the time they had been sort of removed from the game according to most people they still spawned sometimes in vehicles if anyone has this item and dont care for it I would be most interested in getting it back as I bit the dust last night and no longer have my baddass outfit :(. Have lots of ammo, and a nvg or gps as compensation and a m14 aim as well as antibiotics and a m9sd

Current Bug list Amount of the items spawned in vehicles are missing in the column "Inventory" of database "object_spawns". Database "Character_dead" is not using at all, procedure "pCleanup" is just deleting the dead character record. I couldn't set up a tent, can anyone confirm that. ????????? DayZ loading screen logo is blurry. When i attempted to blood bag it said : Bloodbag has been interrupted without even moving. I think the 'Study body' is still not functioning properly... msgs vague Skin Changes causing kick in BE. Recombining AKM magazines disappear; will find out if same issues apply to other magazines/clips/arrows. Combine Mags now dupes mags ???? need more info. Debug spawning - seems to be an issues with incorrect files (server.pbo & mission). Loot & Zed delayed spawn time. Mission gen site has incorrect files -- This has now been corrected plz make sure to redownload your mission blood bagging is failing on our server, says transfusion was interrupted -- FIXED Missiles on little bird cant be repaired FPS issues Skin Issues AntiTP causing Debug spawns after 30 players -- Disable the antiTP Not a bug Script Restrictions are not issues with DayZ. How are the servers coping with lag with this patch? I thought they got rid of Zombies spawning in vehicles because of the way you could drive/fly around creating hundreds of zombies all over the place until the server starts to crawl under the pressure.

I like what you are saying. The zombies are fun to run away from and shoot but you lead me to an interesting point. Zombie films are often not really about the zoms, they just create a scenario and explore a story where we can see just what the characters will resort to to survive. These films kinda explore human nature. There is a board game called Zombies!!! It is turn based. You loot buildings fight zeds and get to create the map as you go. You get to move zombies towards other players as part of the game. This can cause their death. You also have a hand of cards which give you weapons or cause horrible things to happen to the other players. The objective to get to the helicopter and escape. The helicopter looks small, like the size of a 'little bird' or something. I think it could hold several people. However the game allows no option for that. Once one player gets to it the game is over. Seems quite realistic to me. I can only thing of about four people in my life I would really risk my life for, I doubt I would try to get a total stranger to my helicopter to escape too... My friend did one of those '2.8 hours later' zombie runs recently. There are normal people who pretend to be zoms and chase you from point to point through a city at night while actors give you objectives. It was kinda every man for himself and my friend in particular found that when his fight/flight mechanism kicked in he ran, HARD. Screw the rest of the people he knew. So yeah, the zoms can be really fun, and scary, but I think Dean wanted to craft a survival game where we can see how people will react when resources, including food, are scarce. Will we trade, will we shoot each other? Well I think we know the answer to that, luckily lots and lots of new features are being added too and there are cool loots and vehicles on top of that. DayZ has always been great because it has always been much more than shoot zeds, people and drive vehicles. The survival has always made it compelling, perhaps in my case I enjoy the challenge.
